I played the game for a year as a subscriber when it first came out, so I have 400 day veteran status and a few other unlocks. I'll have to work out whether the subscription is worth it given this.
Much obliged for the info!

Question: Can players of opposite factions team together?
The last time I played Star Trek Online was probably a couple of years ago. A friend of mine's been trying to get me back into the game, but I just don't like the Federation ship designs. Personal preference. I have a Klingon crew I created and never used, so I could play that. It looks like the Klingon have some cool ship designs later on. Trouble is, my player is pure Federation, so will I be able to team with him if I go back to my Klingon crew?

The only place opposite factions can team is on most of the queues, like the Borg ones. However, if you are both level 50+ you can meet in the dyson sphere and even if you aren't teamed you can do everything there together. Both battle zones, the local missions, tower defense, etc.
As another option, if it is only the federation ships you don't like, try making a romulan and picking federation alliance. Then you can fly romulan ships, with cloaks like your kdf characters, plus any alien ships from the events and lockboxes. You can team with federation players and not have to be in a federation ship.
I am new to the game (two days'ish) and I am muddling through ok I think but I have either missed or have not found how to pause game play.....
I babysit My grand kids frequently and sometimes when I have them down sleeping I need to get up to check on them but if I am in a battle or another quest mission is there a way to stop time basically. I have looked through the user interface notes and I found a reference to "T" but it did not seem to do anything and I have encountered pause zones but 45 seconds just isn't enough....
any other useful guidance's would also be greatly appreciated. Such as gaining spendable coinage to make purchases with. I think I have the skill points figured out and made the upgrades to My ship after completing the first training mission episode..

welcome to the game! Unfortunately, 45 seconds is the maximum pause. Fortunately, there's no death penalty, the 45 seconds recharges as you play, and most of the time, its not hard to just back out of combat and stand around safely. Especially on the ground, your bridge officers will protect you and even ressurect you if you are defeated.

my basic advice to all new players:
when you are in your ship,, look to the left of the display that has your shields and hull. There is a box with a row of 4 buttons and four numbers that say 55/50. Those are your power settings. One button is max power to weapons, one max shields, one max engines and the fourth is balanced. Set this to max weapons. Later you can learn to customize it based on your play style and gear, but leveling with your first character you want it max weapons all the time.
Second, look to the right of that shields/ship icon. Those are your weapons. Right click on them and they get a green outline. This sets them to autofire so you don't have to manually click each one. Just hit the space bar once to begin firing with all guns.
These two things should be in the tutorial but aren't. They will help a lot.
As for currency, there are two in-game kinds: energy credits and dilithium. Then there is the real-world cash currency zen, which is worth 1 US penny each. The starter way to earn ec is to vendor items that drop from enemies. Once you hit the mid-teens you inlock the duty officer system (giving orders to your ships crew) and that gives you a lot more options.
Dilithium is earned from specific missions, the first you will encounter is the traelus satellite repair which you can do every day. There is also a trek history lesson quiz at the academy you can do each day. Later options get bigger rewards and more options. Dilithium is limited to a max of 8,000 per day refined, and it is used for most of the important end game gear.
You will soon encounter the crafting and upgrade systems. Most importantly, never upgrade with green or blue kits, just sell those on the auctionhouse. Only use the superior (purple ones). If you are interested in crafting, there's a lot of advice scattered around do some research first, its not a good system to try and learn by trial and error.
Any specific questions, check back here, we'll help you out.
When it comes to the trait you can get from achieving level 15 in Shield R&D, Inelastic Collisions, can the shield resist from it proc off of the shield heals that come from the Shield Absorptive Frequency Generator Universal Console that Romulans can get?
"There will never be enough blood to wash away my need for vengeance! A single world...I could destroy a million worlds and it would not be enough! Your existence is an insult to the memory of my people! I will continue my fight, even if I must fight alone!"
When it comes to the trait you can get from achieving level 15 in Shield R&D, Inelastic Collisions, can the shield resist from it proc off of the shield heals that come from the Shield Absorptive Frequency Generator Universal Console that Romulans can get?
Depends on the wording. Not ingame so can't look it up, if it says shield healing abilities then I would guess the answer is no, as it is procced on an ability activation as opposed to another proc. When I am in game I will take a look at the wording and test it.

I had a thorough look through the Romulan ships via the magic of Google. Turns out I don't like any of those, either. Actually, let me be a little more specific: I don't like any of the Cruiser-type ships. I like flying the biggest, slowest, heaviest ships I can find. In the federation, this limits me to the classic Enterprise family of ships with a saucer and two nacelles. I just don't like that design. I like the Escort ship designs, but don't like how they play. With the Romulans, their Cruisers have the potential to look really cool, but they're mostly "hollow" which doesn't work for me.
I'll probably have to stick with the Klingons for the time being. Their later-level Cruisers have a really cool design which somewhat reminds me of the Battlecruisers from StarCraft. Star Trek has a very... "Rounded" design to a lot of its ships.
In either case, than you for the advice. I'll have to take a long, hard look at my options and discuss them with my friend.

It can separate out into two halves. Or you can fly three variants that are like its upper and lower halves. google is not the best tool if you wanna see faction at a time. Each of the factions has one of these on the wiki: http://sto.gamepedia.com/File:ROM_Size_Chart.PNG
Again, there's the alien ships but those are mostly level 40+ so you need to level with other things.
It is so bloody big even at max zoom out you can hardly see what you're doing. Takes a full 1 minute 30 seconds to do a 360 if you have no bonus traits or buffs and don't use evasive maneuvers. That is neither a joke or an exagerration, this thing turns 1-degree per second slower than the borta. But it's not only a science-heavy brute, it's a full carrier that can launch four birds of prey. And there's an upgradeable fleet version. I fell in love with it the first time I saw one.
When it comes to the trait you can get from achieving level 15 in Shield R&D, Inelastic Collisions, can the shield resist from it proc off of the shield heals that come from the Shield Absorptive Frequency Generator Universal Console that Romulans can get?
I just discovered last night I can't test this to find out for you. I'm sorry. None of my romulans have the shield trait unlocked. Closest is 90% finished with level 13.
I'm having difficulty getting my Fleet Def Tac T5u past the Bioship in the Delta mission. I can't seem to damage it enough. Does one continue to beat on it and it eventually gives up? Set recommendations?
If I get past that does that unlock missions with Ancient Power Cells?
Also if you know, should I have built an Ageis Deflector? So far I have all the materials but it seems to be asking me for a duty officer with Ageis experience but I couldn't find one at the academy.

Help!
Cheese monkey way to defeat the bioship is:
#1 make sure voyager is shooting it
#2 drop tykens rift, or gravity well on it
#3 get out of its arc of fire
#4 repeat #2 and #3 until it dies
Optional: use fighters, even the freebie scorpions from the mission "the vault" and the nimbus pirate distress call.
Simple way: crash into its face, turn sideways, stop moving and spam all your powers like mad at point blank range. Be sure you have at a minumum emergency power to shields and hazard emitters. Tractor repulsors works great since it can't be pushed. Eject warp plasma also works.

There are no missions that give ancient power cells. You can get them as rare rewards/from the daily and hourly boxes in delta reputation. Alternatively you get them from advanced queues. If you cannot defeat the bioship, then I'm sorry but you really should not be in an advanced queue. Everything in advanced queus has more HP and more damage than the bioship, even frigate class enemies. Head down to the federation shipyards forum and post your build there. Those guys will help you get ready for harder fights.
But, there is a really easy ground advanced called bug hunt. You need to complete the mission "dragons deceit" to unlock it. Before starting it change your traits to include as much toxic resist and self healing as you can. Get a pulsewave gun of any kind. If you have the shotgun from the last mirror event, that is perfect. Queue for this and have fun. It gives one ancient power cell each time.
For the aegis deflector, check with your fleet. Unless they're all jerks someone will craft it for you if you give them the mats. If they won't, then post back here with your @handle and I will.

I'll do the same for the engines and shield if it is needed. Just remember it takes longer to craft than the "ordinary" crafted items.
There's a button on your friendlist on star trek online that says warp to friend, I assumed that if i selceted my friend i could just warp to him how come i cant and all it says is he needs to be a buddy?

For some reason I've not gotten that to work. In champions they had to make a zen item in the store for this (which I'm bought two of because it is awesome). I don't know why it doesn't work.
I just discovered last night I can't test this to find out for you. I'm sorry. None of my romulans have the shield trait unlocked. Closest is 90% finished with level 13.
It's cool, thanks anyway. I really should just test it out myself, but I wanted to see if peeps knew offhand.

Yeah, this is why I was asking. With the Level 15 Engineering R&D trait, Give It Your All, the tooltip specifically says it only procs off the use of Engineering abilities, while the tooltip for Inelastic Collisions is a bit more vague and it makes it seem like it works off of shield heals, period.
"There will never be enough blood to wash away my need for vengeance! A single world...I could destroy a million worlds and it would not be enough! Your existence is an insult to the memory of my people! I will continue my fight, even if I must fight alone!"
So, REALLY wanted the Dyson Science Destroyer, and kept the 704 marks spent quest from last year open until now. Ran the mission, got the Q-mendations, spent it, and voila! Dyson Science Destroyer!
Problem: Load it up, put the bridge officers on it...and now, in science mode, I have 5 ability slots open for the Commander Science bridge officer, but only the first three showing. Go to Tactical Mode, and the same thing happens for the Commander Tactical bridge officer.

live with it? The ship is unique in that it's boff seating changes when it transforms. This is a feature not a bug. It's just the commander power that changes.
Or are you saying that you can't actually use the commander powers?
That's correct. It actually shows FIVE ability slots for whichever mode I'm in, but the abilities themselves won't populate (I could live with the fifth slot being blank and just being there, but I can't use the commander level abilities for either my Tactical or my Science officers).
Stupid noob question from someone who's not a noob...
I can find in my Cryptic account the number of days that I have been subscribed, but have not been able to find anywhere that tells me my subscription date. Anywhere tell us that info? As a lifer, do I get the stipend on the 30-day marks or on the date of subscription?
Thanks!

To the person who wanted to know about Inelastic Collisions. I have that unlocked and it states "Reduces the Damage taken by targets whose shields you heal by 99% for 1.5 sec". So this works on an ally's shields and my understanding of the Shield Absorptive Frequency Generator console is that it works on your opponent's shields. So no those two would not go together.
I'm afraid this is a stupid question, but I've been stuck for the past 24 hours without a new mission. I recently made it to level 40. Since then, new missions haven't been assigned to me. I've done the normal stuff- L for mission list, but there are no new assignments and the new story arc simply hasn't started. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I suspect, unless you have a new character you plan to level up, that it will not be worth it. You already have most of the permanent benifit. Just buy the ec cap increase and you're good to go.
If you have the urge to make new characters, subbing for a month while you level might be handy.

In the Fed lineup, checkout the Catian Atrox Carrier:

In the Romulan fleet there's one cruiser that's bigger than any federation ship in the game: and not hollow

Briefly the subject line says it all.
For ONE of my characters, GW III does drag from the Available Skills box to Drag to Tray, but not the others! Strange.
I had posted elsewhere on this forum thinking that my issue had been solved, but not for all on my account.
As I fly Dyson Sci Ships - all Cmdrs BOfficers have the training pre-Anniversary 5 STO.
I did try other Sci officers, but the result is the same.
Can someone let me know what the issue really is overall?
THANKS!!
