With all of this 'doom' and the talk of the Voth, is anyone else reminded of that scene from the first Jurassic Park? The one where the woman talks about something like...
"God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs. God creates Man. Man creates Dinosaurs. Dinosaur eat man... woman inherits the Earth."
Something like that...
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...
Sew true. It's keeps the readers in stitches ... even if they do get crotchety and knit-picky.
This old TRIBBLE crochets and knits often to keep DOOM supplied with lovely scarfs to give out at the End Of The World parties.

Liar!! You sport full leather gear and a whip to keep doom parties in line!!
Heh... True...
But BranFlakes loves to remind me that talking about my favorite past-time isn't allowed here.
I have to keep that kind of discussion to PM's.
Sooo, knitting and crochet have had to become my public persona.

Well now that you mentioned that, does that mean men should either get a sex change or become transgendered to save them selves from destruction?
Nope, but we might see a rise in the numbers of females playing STO.
Actually, my main thought was "Large numbers of people leave, fleet system collapses without the numbers to support it, Development team has to come up with something besides throwing out a new Fleet Holding Project every month or so, new content brings players back..."

If such a future came to pass, I'll start living in the sewers. I will become that mythical man-creature, the stuff of legends and rumours. If I'm lucky I'll also make friends with Bigfoot.

That's a very strange choice of words considering the quoted post.
DOOM has apparently already taken over your thoughts.

Of late I've been hearing a LOT of people talking about Star Citizen. If they make that game half as good as it appears on their website I think you'll start hearing crickets on ESD and Qonos when it's released. Time to lift your game, Cryptic.
This is your doom, whether you like it or not. Your doom has superceded your destiny and your fate. Your doom is unavoidable, whether you go to a mountain in Mordor or not. A doom-disruptor will not protect you. Nor will MACO or OMEGA Mk XX armor. This doom is brought to you by Little Miss Muffet Industries, "Where there is a will, there is a whey." We now return you to your regularly scheduled doomed programming.

I did a lot of reading up and research on this game and it will be amazing. So many career's to choose and levels of immersion. It will be like nothing that has come before. STO will need to up its standards in the nex year or perhaps sell to another company that will invest in the Star Trek IP and bring in designers that will listen to the players and know something about how to run an MMO. Any game that has Star Wars or Star Trek in it will draw players to it, but to keep players they need the leadership and imagination of designers like Chris Roberts.

Star Citizen isn't targeting STO. It's targeting Eve Online. SC is essentially a new Eve, full of the same mining/grinding/PvP sandbox system. The people who play STO are people looking for Trek stories, not flying around an asteroid 3 hours a day grinding enough ore to buy some new missiles for your ship while all the time hoping someone doesn't come and vaporize you.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

I think you misrepresented the grinding part- there's no loot drops in SC for killing opponents, it's all done thru a type of job market/reward system, with exploration and salvage as a bonus.
