Risian Corvettes are <3

longasclongasc Member Posts: 490
I am very happy that they do not only have a lot of customization options and patterns, they are also very capable due to a good and flexible BOff layout and 35k Hull - that's more than the blog stated, IIRC it was 25k). Also great is that the R.X. or so prefix is optional.

The special ability is also great, superb to stop running Spheres or fly a circle around a Cube and punish it with shield ignoring damage.

I got 3 Corvettes, one shrill pink, one red/dark red and one green/light green.

Here is my Corvette, the setup might serve you as inspiration for yours. Some players like to use it to lay Nukaran Web Mines.

The only disappointment is, once again, the lack of a custom interior. Other than that, a nice ship that performs quite well.

The blog isn't wrong, its just that you have skill points allocated that increase your hull strength (hull integrity etc).

Think someone mentioned that 37k is the highest this hull can get to but don't quote me on that.
    Well I can't forget a face but I won't remember y'all.

The only thing I disapprove about the Corvette is the blasted impulse modifier, which is way out of whack. .25 is too much. . .it should be .22 or at best .23.

It's like people don't realize just how bloody FAST this thing is going compared to anything else in the game. It easily outpaces the JHAS which has a .22 and zips around madly when you're fighting it.

Everything else is fine, and makes for a good escort layout. Just reduce that damned impulse modifier to something sensible.

Not a bad ship but it needs a custom bridge atleast. of course the breen ship was the same way. I'm thinking none of those event ships have their own bridge, just the same crappy starter bridge the Miranda has.

I've been hearing this a lot. Reduce the impulse modifier and the ship gets pretty junky IMO. It's pretty much the only worthwhile thing about it, it's seriously zippy.

I'm kind of annoyed about it, because I didn't spot the impulse modifier on the dev blog - and hence didn't bother grinding for what I assumed would be a useless ship!

You do know that its def increases with its speed rite? And why do you complain anyway? because your bug got left in the dust and want to nerf it?

I said recently but would reiterate:

If they don't plan to do new ships for this coming winter and 2014 summer, they add special projects for themed ship interiors, usable on any ship.

I'd like to see a holiday decor icy Breen interior with slick floors and something special for the winter event as a project unlock for autographs. Maybe the fireplace from the Klingon Starbase interior and a tree or snowman floor trophy (that could be replaced with other floor trophies) worked in somewhere. And the whole thing rigged up like skating on the lake.

And next summer, I'd like to see a Risian resort themed ship interior that allows jetpack use; maybe have a second level with a special DOff contact or year round summer costume vendor that can be accessed only via jetpack.

Nice assumption, but I don't have a JHAS. I don't have any lockbox ships, for that matter, outside of a Mirror Vor'cha on another character. And yes, I'm keenly aware that defense increases with speed.

I fly BoPs (which RELY on being able to somewhat speed-tank to survive, even more so than escorts do), which already face obsolescence from the many newer concepts being thrown into the game. I also fly raptors and destroyers. These ship classes are restricted to .20 impulse speed.

I'm 'complaining' because there's a difference between 'speed tanking', (which is what ships like the Steamrunner and JHAS excel at) as opposed to 'bloody damned impossible to keep up with and hit due to the high speed', which is what the Corvette represents. The only ship in the game that could possibly keep up with it is the JHAS.

It is capable of outpacing someone moving full-impulse with hyper-impulse engines by using EPtE2 or 3 and maybe Deuterium. That should not be possible.

Ya Im very happy with mine. Finally I found a ship that I did not have to pay for and can run circles around JHAS's.

Ive beaten 5 or 6 of the JHAS's in 1 vs 1 pvp already. Im lovin it!

I don't own one either, but that was my choice. I opted out of the holiday grind this year.

The only reason I replied here is because I think the current speed modifier should stay as well. As others have said it is the defining feature of the ship, and relies on the evasion to survive.

People moaned and still moan about Borg spheres and their speed thanks to EptE and I don't think we need another 'slow down' thread. There is tractor beams, tractor mines, target engines subsystem attacks, warp plasma + doffs, chronitons...quite a few options for slowing ships down. They work for me, spheres are never a problem for the team while in my cruiser. Same can be said for corvettes.

That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.

you know I have yet to find someone outpacing me in the corvett...so far I have seen players try.....then get surprised when I teleport behind them...or slow them to a crawl with vented warp plasma.....or better still when I simply use a couple powers to increase my speed.

I am sorry...I just find the concept that the corvett is super great beyond all other ships is super ridiculous.

And as for the bridge stuff not being able to be changed and no interior maps thing....First off all ships of some class are supposed to have the same layouts...they are like cars in the real world....which always have the steering wheel up front....the person in the trunk isn't going to have that...unless some car model has that.

I admit only having one area to go to....isn't as much fun....but the other areas I am sure are works in progress....we are talking about cryptic here...the group that has perfectionists who took over a year to release capes in city of heroes because they didn't like how it looked or how it was obtained.

I recall a post by one of the cryptic developers saying...."On things we are working on or things that are planned.....we cannot talk about those things ever nor will we post anything related to due to an NDA. This does not mean we are uninterested, and that we don't read what people write about things in the forums."

Sooo....given that....you can bet they are probably looking at the stuff deciding on what to do....just cant really comment due to an NDA.

Power without Perception is Spiritually useless and therefore of no true value.

I love the exterior appearance options, and the layout is nice and flexible.

Also remember that if you choose none for the prefix, then you can make your own in the ship name, like H.M.S.

There is a limit to what the speed contributes to defence ;)

But that aside, I find a ship as "hard" as an heavy escort (EptS3!) and faster+more maneuverable than an JHAS a very, very good ship.

The Corvette is pretty fragile... but it's trivially easy to hit the defense cap from speed (and you can it 95+ with an Aegis set, or 110+ with the right romulan BOFFs) and mitigate a sizable portion of PVE damage that way. And the high turn rate and impulse modifier pretty much make it the fastest ship in the game if you're willing to trade a few defensive powers for things like EptE and Aux2ID. Between those two, APO, and evasive maneuvers, you can pretty much zip around at full impulse speeds all the time (and several times that if you stack buffs) and have turn rates of 90+ (and again, reach 180+ if you stack buffs). It's absolutely insane and there's nothing in the game like it and it's amazingly fun to play.

If you do this though, be sure to fit it with beams. Yes I know it's an escort-style ship, but believe me. When you can zip into fighting distance, zip past your target, and then be out of fighting distance in a second of travel there's no way you'll be able to keep cannons focused on your target. And you never, ever want to slow down.

I decided on a torpedo boat myself... sure, I can't see my own torps but I know they are doing their job

Oddly, due to the crazy speed, I've found myself plumping for the oft unused mix of chronitons and transphasics due to the fact ten km in a risian speedboat is less than three seconds so in a run you often only get one or two torpedos in before you are hitting the rear shield - thus with no time to bust a shield with quantums, I find the direct hull damage far more useful (and unlike plasma, theres no chance for the 'ignore shield' damage to be missed by the lowered proc rate on hy/spread)

Then for fun I tossed a chroniton torp in the rear for its slow proc and tractor mines just to be evil- when it procs or the mines fire, it makes escape even easier :)

Which is really weird considering how well the City of Heroes capes eventually worked. Unless you just meant clipping issues, which is something you have to live with in computer games.

Dude. No. This ship NEEDS speed, it is BASED on speed. .25 is fine, you have tractor beams, Tholian webs, warp plasma and etc. to take care of that (just like what the other person was saying). CRYPTIC, KEEP THIS SHIP'S IMPULSE MODIFIER AT 0.25.

Got mine today and was astonished at the amount of customisation possible. They really went to town on this one. I went for the yellow option. :D Quite like its speed, but I need to get some decent weapons for it (only had a MK XI disruptor cannon set from my old escort).
