Essentially, this is spyware / malware / zombieware. Isn't this like Bittorent?

For our existing players, nothing is changing at this time. Feel free to continue launching directly from the launcher you use today. If there are any changes to this, we’ll be sure to communicate them.

I sure hope this extra software won't become a requirement to launch/login to STO..?

I'm sure it's a good convenient way for PWE to get a few seconds of advertising their other games to new players every time they log in, but I don't need it nor do I want it.

If I want Arc I know of a few nice ones on Risa, and if I want Steam I'll get a sauna.. etc.

Posted here since the original post probably were in the wrong thread.

Hi there! Having an opinion is not allowed per our forum rules: yap yap yap.

Please file a forums and website ticket with your concerns so the community team can investigate any concerns you have with our stealthy assault installation of bloatware/spyware to your system , please do not post about them on the forums.

    Thanks for understanding!

Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it. - Bubba

    Captains,

This has been a thread merge. There is already a thread in the Galactic News Forum and another thread in the Controls forum about installation feedback. We do not need a half-dozen more threads about Arc. Please keep it down to one thread here in the STO General forum.

Seems to me that it's only compulsory to start with for new players, like how Pando is compulsory with new installs but then you can uninstall it after.

If that's the case I have no problem with it, I'll just not use it and uninstall it. I have unlimited broadband but I don't have unlimited CPU power and RAM so I don't really want an additional program that I don't want or need however, so don't force me to use it unless I want to.

When ARC can find my already downloaded, installed and updated game files, then I will use ARC. But it can't, so... there's my answer. Also, if ARC becomes mandatory, how's that going to sit with Steam since they help distribute this game and a fair amount of people use Steam to launch STO? Does this mean that all PWE (and by extension Cryptic) games be pulled from Steam like EA pulled the majority of their games from Steam and only distribute through Origin?

Many people lost their forum names because of the forced merge of the Cryptic forums into PWE's system. Forcing this platform on the players when it can't even find its own company's files in a location other than "install default location" or even point to the location of said files is just... stupid.

I installed the new software without needing it because I liked the sound of a media booster. My movies have been playing a little slowly recently and I thought maybe I had a virus or something, but since installing Pando(R)(TM) Media Booster(R)(TM), my movies have been faster, and in higher definition.

I'm glad that PWE have decided to make such an altruistic move, and encourage everyone to install this software.

So how much does Pando pay you to post this message?

This thread had nothing to do with Pando.

You posted the EXACT same message in the "Downloading Arc" thread. This would be considered "spamming" according to forum rules. http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?p=11431971#post11431971

Sorry am somewhat of a technical layman. What does this mean if you run STO on Steam? Can I ignore this latest misadventure into nonsense? Or will I be forced to use this; as I already have issues running the game.

Fixed that for you. Wouldn't want people to get the impression you didn't know what you were talking about now.
This thread had nothing to do with Pando.

Yes it did in a way, the mechanics of it are explained in post 21 of this now merged thread.

TBH I can't see PWE yanking their games from steam. Most of their games are F2P and steam is a huge player base. Not to mention the legal contracts that they most likely have in place with steam. Now if those expire... we might get screwed. Anyways arc sucks.
    pvp = small package

You shouldn't have spoiled it. People who didn't get it to begin with don't deserve to get it now.

I don't have anything against ARC since I know little about it. Unless it becomes mandatory. Then I will no longer play STO or spend any more money on Zen. (I bought $40 in Zen this month)

I have no use for it. STO is the *only* game I currently play. I've tried out a couple other PWE games in the past and didn't care much for them.

Some people may use it and like it and that's perfectly fine. I just don't want to be forced to use it myself.

Arc or any other game platform - I don't have them, don't need them, & don't want them! As far as Arc goes: STO is the ONLY game I play. If I want STO news I will go to the PWE/STO webpage & get it. I don't care for things being shoved in my face  that I don't want or need. I am not interested in ANY other games & if I did become interested in aquiring another game I will go to respective game websites & shop for them there.

    YAY !!!

Adware for everyone. They promise not to spy on your gaming habits.

...Everyone better d/l the install from FTP before ARC is integrated, and backup their launcher. Maybe I should just blacklist PWE's portal and be done with them.

...A shame the players didn't care as much when they slaughtered the mail system.

LOL, ya really think you'll have a choice when they decide to make ARC mandatory for everyone ? They didn't tell anyone about the mail because it would've disrupted the forums worse than this ARC announcement.

Like an unfair moderation system that shows favoritism and clear bias? That is a HUGE accident if you ask me.

Mods are above reproach. It's best to live within the TOS and ignore them. A comment like that will get you a vacation, best to remove it QUICKLY.

I am not worried about it good sir. I have a life outside of this forum and if they want to ban me for pointing out clear and definable bias they are welcome to that of course. I post on GFaqs so I am used to ridiculous and flagrant abuses of power.

No I fully anticipate that this will be compulsorily rolled out for everyone in due time. But at least we have a chance to make a fuss about it before hand.
It won't amount to anything, but at least we get to make a fuss.

I see alot of players seems to feel the same way I do about this "Arc software",
and so here is an advice for PWE and BranFlakes:

Since we the players don't know for sure if the future intetions is to make this software a requirement to be able to play STO,

I think an official post on these forums where someone promised that Arc will remain entirely optional for STO players would cool down the emotions and posting frequency alot.
