I agree the summer event is excellent.

I also think investing in a better floater makes the main event reputation grind faster, by being able to fly more nimbly and finish 3/4 maps in one pass.

Now, I need to find that last parrot for the accolade. Here polly, polly, polly...

After actually flying the Superior Floater last night, I am really gonna miss it when the Event is gone. It is SO MUCH FUN!!!

    :D

I appreciate how much work it must be to Flying-Player-Proof a map, but Sweet Jeebus, I sure wish they could just do it to at least a couple of maps that would be available year 'round (New Romulus and Nimbus come to mind). That would be awesome.

    Heh.

Anyway, thanks to the Devs (Taco, et al) responsible for the Floaters!

Not trying to argue, just confused...

Where did the devs say that the Risa map won't be available after the event? I thought we'd be able to use the floaters on Risa afterward, just not with the floater course that's part of the event?

while i enjoy the jetpacks ,and i find the events a tad better than the winter ones with exception of the snowman fight ( AWSOME event)
the jet pack is a ONE TRICK PONY. cryptic shows off a nice gadget ( look what we can do) without incorporating it to be use in the game as a whole for the rest of the yr . even if its just avail in social zones would be better than a couple of months or in just one area .

Ah. Yes. Well... Good point. You're right. The new Risa map is expected to stay after the event, so yeah. We'll still be able to visit and fly around from time to time.

I guess what I meant to say is that I'm going to miss flying around a map, with purpose. :D

My other points still stand: It's fun to fly and I wish (with foreknowledge to it's futility) that we had additional floatable maps.

The game is a bleeping joke, I was expecting a decent summer event and this is the rubbish we get. I do not play this game to enjoy myself. Bitterly disappointed

I couldnt agree more, what a letdown. Just not what I expected at all, not up to the ussual standards...just my opinion also

Was it my imagination, or did I read somewhere that the jetpack can only be visible with uniform options?

The stats are screwed on them. Or someone at Cryptic is having a big joke.

Rental Floater gives +35 flight speed.

Standard Floater (costing 50 Favors) gives +30 speed.

    Come again?

The rental has slightly higher speed due to it's time limit I guess. As already mentioned, the Standard handles a lot better meaning you probably get around quicker. And buy the time you've bought a Standard you probably have a Rissian Tribble too.

Yes, quite! C'mon, Cryptic, stop building up our expectations of dreary, funless content, and then pull the rug out from under us with fun and entertaining events. How DARE you expect us to enjoy ourselves, and succeed in making us do so!

I changed clothes a few times while hopping around Risa in the Rental and Superior (Blue) Floaters. Every "Uniform" outfit I tried had a successful display of my pack, every "Off Duty" outfit I tried failed (including the Ferengi Merchant's Jacket, Mercenary set, and Black Tie Formal (Considering the "Casino Royale-feel" of the locale, I was really bummed I couldn't imitate a "Jet Pack Bond" look )) with the exception of the Romulan Senate Robe, which worked.

Which would mean that the promo images they showed on the Dev blogs is something that's literally impossible to do.

No, no, no...not Buck Rogers...CAPTAIN PROTON!! Surely it's been discussed internally, is there going to be an upcoming special episode of a holodeck adventure with Captain Proton? (Naturally complete with a monochromatic map and characters)

Your logic is faulty. There does appear to be at least some (Romulan Senate Robes, for example) Off Duty costumes that work with the Floaters. It's quite possible the new Risian clothes do to. I have not earned them yet (possibly this weekend), nor seen any players wearing them yet to know for sure.

It's also possible (likely, even) that the failure to see the pack with most OD clothing is simply an unintended bug.

    Fair.

It's just that...well, I'll zip it. I'm writing a geekparty article on my opinions on the summer event, so I don't want to give too much away.

That said, I do genuinely love the new Risa map, and I sincerely hope it's the new permanent map.

Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it. - Bubba

The floaters work with the short strapless dress from the formal wear set.

Too bad that's the only outfit option which might resemble beach wear. All these uniforms running around on the beach look like a military invasion.

The Orion's keep it vacation like.

By the way, excellent job on the Risa terrain, environment artists. Seriously. And the birds are amazing. Can we have a stand for our Risan bird pets in our ready rooms?

There is a map pit in the volcano caldera that characters can fall into. If they don't have a floater there's no way out. The pit is just passed a concave tree trunk along the left caldera cliff face from the cave/tunnel.

Just as an aside, I had nothing to do with the Floaters.
Think of it this way. Environment guys don't have anything to do with making/having a baby. But we have to do all of the work to baby proof the house.

I just want to state, for the record and forever, that the environment is genuinely, awesomely fantastic. If the summer event had been nothing more than "Here, have a new Risa map and some jetpacks to fly around in it", I would have been sincerely satisfied with it.

There is no part of me that doesn't pray to every God known and unknown that the Risa map sticks around permanently.

Baby-proof or not, the environment of the new Risa map gives the event area that certain tropical island feeling that it should have. Thank you, Team Environment! :D

This is the RISA that should have been from the beginning, old RISA has been so underutilized for anything. Leaving this map as the new RISA would please RP'ers and the general player base to stop by and have fun. Would be great to have unique DOFF missions and such in the future. Obviously the Summer Event will be gone, but this RISA alone is so nice. You could even do an expansion on this area alone.

Yup. I make absolutely no qualms about the fact that I'm in this game for RP, and even I never wanted to go to Risa. There was just nothing there.

This new Risa? I can totally see my characters going *there*. There's stuff to explore, places to lounge, etc.

I may have missed something but isn't this new Risian map supposed to stay after the event?

There was a sentence like "for now, we are planning to keep the map available after the event ends" by Borticus in a Dev blog about it, no?

I would guess then, that 'floating' would remain a possibility, if you previously bought a floater, just no more games and store.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class.
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
    Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

Cindy, I was able to get the Risian Beachcomber outfit today and my (Superior Blue) Floater shows up perfectly. So the Dev blogs are safe. :)

That being said, the pack is not visible with my Ferengi Merchant's Jacket, none of the Formal Wear, my Off Duty Wraparound Robe, nor the Tholian Robe. :(

Well, as you so eloquently put it, you "baby proofed the house", making way for the awesome work done by whomever actually did create the Floaters.

So that takes away one of the things I was going to say in my article. Thanks for giving me that.

No, seriously. I really do enjoy this game, and if I'm gonna complain, I want to complain about things that are *actually* a problem. I mean, the fact that the outfits aren't a bit better put together is sad, but they didn't show any images of things players can't do.

...Other than all the NPCs walking around looking more fabulous than me, that is.

my point is that given crypitc's track record this tech WONT BE game wide , just in a limited area . look how limited ev suits are. there is only one mine in the quadrant ?, one planet and 2 missions FOR EV SUITS ?? granted it was just for a mine and the ds9 mission at introduction , but how many threads were there about that too before they added in the rest . its like they just throw players a bone rather than completely integrate these experiences into the game

look at utopia . that should be like the new risa , avail all yr round , its a beautiful map. and not seasonal like Q' winterland

look at the tech on nimbus III , without the away team window going from social to mission and back.
that kind of tech should be game wide not just pieced out here and there .
