If you like the jetpack just play as a light assualt type guy in planetside 2. They can fly, not for long, but the controls are also almost exactly the same.

One of the only times I'll ever be able to post this, but, Champions Online does Jet Packs far better than STO.

There isn't much that CO does better than STO, but jet packs? That's one of them.

The stats are screwed on them. Or someone at Cryptic is having a big joke.

Rental Floater gives +35 flight speed.

Standard Floater (costing 50 Favors) gives +30 speed.

    Come again?

Standard has better maneuverability, like the tooltip says.

The game is a bleeping joke, I was expecting a decent summer event and this is the rubbish we get. I do not play this game to enjoy myself. Bitterly disappointed

I just wish I could figure out how to decrease my altitude. I figured out how to move up, left, right, forward and backwards, but not downward. :(

And it lasts forever, too (instead of like 15 minutes).

Could be worse - could be Champions Online. We haven't gotten an update worth talking about for like at least a year now.

    Deactivate your Floater? :P

Just point the camera down and press forward.

If you are not playing STO to enjoy yourself then you are "doing it wrong".

Back on topic - keep the hints coming so I will wind up having a better time when I finally get home and get logged in! ;)

you know what would be awesome
a new PVP map for Jet packs.

so people can fly around while trying to shoot each other
    on a ground map.

Even better, combine shuttles with ground combat. One of the most memorable moments in all of STO for me was battling the Scorpion fighter during the Cutting the Cord episode. Wish we had more of that.

Face in the direction you want to fly and then press your "forward" key. If you want to fly down, then face down and press forward.

The "reverse" key will move you backwards on the same axis. So you can face up and "reverse" your way down too.

Your keys for "move left/right" (as opposed to "turn left/right") also activate lateral thrusters, which can be handy in some situations.

The "jump" key raise your elevation regardless of direction.

If you want to descend rapidly, turn off the jet pack :) If you are high enough, you will be able to turn it back on before you slam into the ground.

Why bother turning it back on? nothing funnier than my fat ork divebombing the dance stage and zeroing out his health :D

can you make a Iron Man in Champs ?
    (//edit: http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u24/dialamx/screenshot_2009-08-20-14-13-44.jpg
loool... AND he has rocket boots!!!)

because with EVA suit, Jetpack and AC/DC hammering out the Boxes i totally feel like Iron Man!
    http://s14.directupload.net/images/130628/owpc6tjf.jpg

PS: you totally need to make a space map with this -> EVA suits + jetpacks in low gravity space and 360? movemeont to loose orientation would be PIMP. -> that over DS9! ...not this magnetic boot crawl...

PPS: why is the jetpack not displayed on the custom MACO/Omega visuals, they look like i'm flying on my own -.-

It's funny, because it's actually good content just a shame it takes an event to provide it, if the rewards sucked everyone would bash it.

this is far better than the winter event which is stale, even with the addition of the snowman fights/items.

This is Taco we're talking about... Besides, this thread has something to do with the construction of the Risa map to allow flying, so of course he's going to weigh in.

You wouldn't expect a ship artist to reply to a thread about jetpacks, would you? Or expect Taco to give a detailed analysis of the math behind shield resistances and shield drain? Him posting here does not necessarily equate to a Dev ignoring another thread.

Keep in mind that there's no "One Dev To Rule Them All" type... they all have their specialties.

Jetpacks online? Eh... Wishfully thinking, it's just a prelude to PWE getting the Buck Roger's IP rights. 50's jetpacks and ray guns with UFO ships that have 57 Chevy styling. Might even get our own hero worshipping sidekicks and astro-dogs. Could be cool. ;)

With as much as we have to invest to get the best floater, they should be available to use anywhere we want (non-combat) like the frozen boots.

(And yes, in addition to that, maybe there could be some special maps where floaters could be used in combat.)

I agree, this summer event and map are really nice. Excellent work and polish. The sand and water kicking up as you fly low, day/night, critters, it just shows where this game is going. I have never regretted my Lifetime sub from launch.
PS I DO play for fun.
