I am new to the whole Zen thing, having just come back to the game after not playing for 3 years.
I don't mind that there are bundles, that is a good thing in itself, however, when the bundles consist of 3 of the same ship it's not very appealing to want to purchase. I play Federation and Klingon and have more than one character in each, and now have a Romulan.
It would be far more enticing for me to be able to choose any 3 ships I want for the 5000 Zen bundle rather than not buying any at all because I don't want 3 of the same ship. Yes, I know Cryptic/PWE has the idea of me buying multiple bundles so I can have a bunch of wasted ships if I reeeally want ships for each faction I play....but it *is* a losing bet. Right now I'm not buying any bundle because I refuse to spend that much money for 3 of the same ship with the only difference being consoles and a bridge officer swap.

But this is the entire reason why their in a Bundle (with a considerable discount over purchasing the ships separately...) is because their variants of the same ship...
So why do you think you deserve a special discount on separate ships, especially when you can accomplish the same thing via the various Zen and Ship sales that occur several times a year...

Did you notice how ridiculous your statement is? Probably not. Let me see... " ..various Zen and Ship sales that occur several times a year..." Does that somehow not sound a bit lowbrow to you? Does it sound like it's not even ballpark legit, to you? Why in THE heck would I want to wait 'x' amount of months for something that might not even be what I'm looking for, rather than my original idea of letting me purchase what I want to, as a bundle, right now?
I don't want 3 variations on the Bortas'qu ship, I want a War variant, along with an Odyssey cruiser, and now a Scimitar tactical variant, and I don't want to have to pay $75 to get them. $50 dollars I could live with and not feel like I got screwed. That's the point of this thread.

If you don't want the bundle then buy ONE ship for 2,500 Zen.

You want
Bortas'qu ship 2,500 Zen
Odyssey Cruiser 2,500 Zen
Scimitar tactical variant 2,500 Zen
That's 7,500 Zen for 3 different characters.

The entire point of products coming in combos/bundle is because you generally wouldn't buy the other items in the bundle.
If you have one variant, you're unlikely to buy another. If the bundle didn't exist they would only get 2500 Zen. With a bundle appearing to be a "better deal", they can entice people to pay more, and get 5000 Zen from the same "inventory".
If they only have an "inventory" of a Tactical Vesta, a Science Vesta, an Engineering Vesta, a Tactical Oddy, a Science Oddy, and an Engineering Oddy, they would only expect to make 5000 Zen. Most people would only ever buy one Vesta variant and one Oddy variant, no more. By offering all three variants in a bundle, they can get people to pay 10,000 Zen for that exact same "inventory".
That's exactly how it works for every single multiple-item discount in retail. "Buy one get one free" so they earn 1 item worth of revenue instead of 0. "Buy one get second item half off" so they earn 1.5 items worth of revenue instead of 1. All that because items that don't sell have a value of $0.
Letting you make a custom bundle so they can make $50 Zen off you makes absolutely zero sense. They would lose $25 per person who would have bought three ships regardless of the existence of a custom bundle. The expected revenue from any 3-variant ship class would also drop from $25-$50 to just $25.
OP, you're essentially going up to a business and whining that if they don't lose $25 off every couple of customers, they won't get your $50. Do you not see how ridiculous and entitled that sounds?

Actually, I have worked in retail and darkjeff's statement is entirely right - 'bundle' packs are designed to convince customers to buy something they normally wouldn't by presenting them with a 'deal'. Some examples from my own sales experience;
If they have fees totaling X amount, offer them a gift card that costs Y amount but gives them Z amount, which is higher than X, leaving them with money left over.
If they have two drinks and two movies that cost X amount, let them know that if they get popcorn as well, there's a deal that will actually bring the price down to Y amount from the original X.
If they're getting two movies, tell them about the 'bundle' where they can get another two and only have to pay for three.
All things they wouldn't normally do, but because they're presented as 'deals' or 'bundles', they're more enticing.
The 'mix and match' argument precludes the fact that even deals like '3 for 2' have restrictions - 'Buy three, get the lowest priced one free', 'applicable items only', only certain brands, etc. In this case, the restriction is a very simple one - KDF can't fly Fed ships, Fed can't fly KDF ships and Romulans can't fly Tier 5 or higher allied ships. The 'on-site' C-Store is gone, meaning that C-Store items are now bought in game, using characters (Fed for Fed, KDF for KDF, RR for RR). There's a lock-out - "Your Character cannot use this item" to keep that straight. For a mix-and-match of Bortasqu War, Oddyssey Tactical and Scimitar tactical to be done, they'd literally have to go in and re-code the entire C-Store to allow characters to buy items for other factions while still being restricted from using them theirselves. In the long run, I doubt it would be worth it.
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
