I've rebooted, I've tried the most recent version of the launcher. Since this morning, whenever I try to launch the game the patch (98 MB) gets to 80.1 or 80.2 MB and stops even though the "received" climbs (possibly to infinity 606 MB as of this writing). The tab for the launcher says I'm at 81.8 or 81.9% and never moves from there.

If you hit Ctrl and x while you are patching you will likely see the issue is the shaderCache.hogg file. This has happened to me every time the patch just lists server stability in the notes. I have had to completely uninstall and reinstall the game. Before that I attempted all the usual things like force verify, reloading, downloading the latest launcher and nothing would work.
Every time this happens I come to the forums and see a post like yours that never gets a response. It's like this is the dirty little secret they don't want to talk about. I am attempting to have a friend send over his patched file and see if the patcher accepts it. If it does not I think i'm just going to cancel my sub for now. Downloading 12 gigs every week or so is getting tiresome. Hope you get your issue resolved.
That indeed seems to be the culprit. The error log repeats "Checksum verification failed after download" every time I run the patcher. This says to me that the download is going through but is either corrupted or doesn't match what the launcher is expecting. I put in a ticket. I'll post the resolution when I get one.
Still has me wondering why a fresh install fixes the issue for a week or so then it rears its ugly head again. I play the other Cryptic games and have no issues come patch day on them at all. Looking forward to hearing the reply you get.
Haven't received word back from support yet but on a whim I attempted to VPN into a different network and the patch finished properly (of course it could have been a server problem that they just happened to fix at the same time). I'm going to update the ticket to see if my ISP could be throttling the connection to the patch server or something.
Are you on a personal network or managed (like a dorm or office)?
I'm up and running for now (just waiting on support to give me some sort of idea on how to avoid this in the future). I actually ran across your post before I submitted to support and removed the file from the folder (saved it to a temp folder just in case) and for some reason the launcher still tried to patch it. What's more is that it never recreated the file when it was getting to 81% which is making me think that no patching was actually happening at all. It would seem that not all shaderCache.hogg problems are created equal. I appreciate the suggestion though Maybe this will sort out Rollabob's trouble.

Maybe this is a sign that I should go fishing
