Unable to update game

So after a long hiatus from the game to deal with a family illness, I'm trying to return to the game to check out the new expansion, however my attempt to do so is running into an unfortunate problem....

I am attempting a fresh install of the game, however after I've done the initial install, loaded up the launcher and gotten past the log-in screen, the launcher freezes up while it's checking the game's version. The 'Patch' button is greyed out though I can click on the advertisements and all of the buttons along the top bar (options, etc.). My first thought was that it was just taking a while as I've had previous experiences with this game that just took a while before starting, however after about 45 minutes of just sitting there and nothing happening I gave up on it.

I've tried restarting, reinstalling, and none of it seems to work. Any ideas on what to do?

When you reinstalled, did you completely remove the old game files ?

You could also try downloading a new launcher, there's a stickied thread in support forum IIRC.

After the game launches and hangs, try clicking 'force verify' in the options to see if it wakes the game up.

OOoohhhh, one more thing- AFTER a reinstall make sure to setup the firewall for the new install. Just because the game files are the same names as the old and in the same place your windows firewall might see it as a different program.

I tried downloading a new launcher from this forum and it was a no go unfortunately, and to answer your first question: yes I deleted the old game files each time before trying to install it.

My problem isn't with the game launching, it's with the launcher freezing before actually downloading the game. I download and run the installer from the site, then get past the log-in and while it's checking the version and where it should start downloading the game is where the launcher is freezing.

I finally got it last night, not sure what I did differently from the other times but I got the Force Verify to work this time.

Had enough bad experiences with Cryptic bugs that I know better than to question how it works when it works, lol.
