The Khnial's Hakeev's ship, an Adapted Battle Cruiser, from the Tal Shiar lock box.

Oh. Why didn't you just say Adapted Battlecruiser then... Not nice to confuse people =P
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once. B)

on the one hand I like zipping around like a porche in my gigantic fleet ha'feh.. on the other, it'd be nice to be on scale with the "normal" escorts.

Regarding the size of the ships compared to their counterparts, there's a fundamental gap in logic here: It seems that it's being generally assumed that ships will only ever be tasked with what we do with them in game. And thus one's being made bigger to do the same job.

A large troop carrying capacity would make sense, and housing a large crew would give it good damage control capabilities too. And ordnance too.

The Ha'feh is too big for my tastes considering how it moves etc, but in general I think it's a pretty slap-dash design anyhow, too blunt at the rear, none of that predatory elegance common to most Romulan designs. If it didn't have row after row of windows, you could easily think it was some sort of shuttle or fighter.

Also war war pacific war A6M Zero war war opinion opinion war. Because I wanted to join in.

Gaaaaahh... Forgive me, it was late at night when I posted, and I was probably tired. Or drunk from lack of sleep. Or both.

They're massive alright, way too big. The science ship is literally the same size as the Atrox and Vo'quv carriers, no really I checked, its the same size as the biggest carriers in the game.

I did a borg alert yesterday and my Ha'nom was literally the size of all the other ships there combined. I spawned at the start right underneath them. It was surreal. And it's not like they were all little Defiants or anything. The smallest ship there was a T'varo. The others were all saucery fed ships.

I have to wonder if it's a built in stealth nerf. Does anyone know if the distance calculation for stealth detection works from the ship's center or it's actual 'skin'?

In a PvP match yesterday there were a number of FED ROMS in Ha'noms and Ha'fehs and when I would see them in the distance I would think they were close as in just outside 10k range. When I clicked on them they would be around 22+K range. Their size is just so disproportional to all other ships in game. Outside of D'D and upcoming scimitar I don't understand the need for Titanic sized non-cannon Romulan ships. Mogai is way to big as well. But as there is some canon behind that I won't bother arguing it.

Yesterday was the first time I logged into my toon that flys the Fleet Defiant, had to clear out some Winter Festival stuff. I warped into DS9 and was shocked at how small my ship is compared to Romulan ships, even to the Oddy now. Did it shrink?!?

I can understand the Hapax being huge, but the others really ought to be smaller. That doesn't automatically mean they have to be weaker, they may well be the most advanced ships in the Romulan navy. The Prometheus is one of the most advanced Starfleet ships, but it is smaller than the older Galaxy.

In our universe, the biggest machines of war are the U.S. carriers. They are not big to impress an enemy, because you don't want the enemy to see how big they are; you don't want to have them in close range.

As soon as an enemy is detected you want to destroy him. You are not letting him come closer with the idea, let's show them how big we are and scare them. The STO universe is different. It is a show universe. Space ships are made and shown with the idea to make an impression on a non military educated audience.

This is probably the reason why we see such big ships. However in a game, where you want to have balance and ship diversity, classes, types etc. you are going to run into problems. A big ship should have a lot of fire power, a big combat ship of course. Yet they have to be on the same competition level as smaller sized ships. Which leads to the question, why a big ship when the job can be done by a smaller ship? Or, we can say in STO, the game, big ships are castrated ships.

I love the giantness of the DD but it threw me off a little when it first loaded in actual space and I had to scroll out for a few seconds to see past it enough to know where I was going. As close as I can figure the Romulan combat doctrine is straight out Palpatine's playbook and at this point I half expect my next mission to involve flying down the trench of an Elachi/Tal Shiar Death Star with Hakeev in hot pursuit.
