How disappointing...

So I've been getting the "too many attempts, please try again later" error when trying to log in (from the launcher). I've tried multiple times waiting anywhere between 5 mins to an hour between attempts. Oddly, I tried a second account, created to test the problem, only to have the same message popup on my first attempt. I've tried resetting the PC, the network, IP addresses, etc. to no effect. I did search and see others have noted similar problems. I've also searched the support database for answers (with no results besides vague solutions not directed at this particular issue). I've even placed a ticket with support.

Now I realize it is the weekend, but surely Cryptic/PWE has weekend support. Yet I've seen no answers to either my ticket or any threads stating they have received support. I also cannot seem to find any information on how long "later" I should wait to try again (especially frustrating as I've waited an hour between attempts to no avail). I've tried redownloading the launcher and even the whole program (through Steam). Considering all the money I've spent to play this game, not to mention the extras I've bought along the way, it is all becoming quite frustrating. Even more so is the number of other login errors I'm seeing in the forums with no official reply and no messages of maintenance showing (as it would seem is needed here).

So I am curious now as to whether anyone has any ideas and/or answers here. Especially anyone from Cryptic/PWE. I'm not normally the type to get upset, but my playtime is fairly limited at times and I'm not very happy to have what time I do have being taken away by annoying and unanswered problems. I'm not quite to the "rage" point yet, but getting close. Anyone (again, especially a Cryptic/PWE rep) have any ideas or answers here?

EDIT: I don't know if it's worth mentioning, but I get the same results with Champions Online as well. Just tested it out of curiosity.

EDIT 2: I now see maintenance is scheduled for tomorrow morning. As of right now it has been nearly 6 hours since my last attempt, and again no progress. Hopefully the maintenance will solve the issue.

EDIT 3: Since maintenance I am again able to login. I am of the opinion this was a server issue and hopefully not one I'll encounter again. I'll try some of the posted tests to find out should it crop up again.

    If the problem is just with the launcher and you don't need to download any patches you can use the 'GameClient.exe' to bypass the launcher and go directly to the game. Whether you still have problems logging in from there is another matter. The gameclient.exe can be found in your STO install directory. It's in the 'live' folder I think.

    My sto only connects to the game itself when activated thru the launcher. But for some reason gameclient.exe when activated directly from the live folders just won't connect to the account server at all.
    even just yesterday i did the same just to test it out. Had all the patches downloaded and started the game thru the launcher then at the same time used gameclient.exe to launch another STO and login a different a different account. It won't even connect to the account server but the STO that I activated via Launcher had no problems getting in.

    This is because the Launcher will pass in arguments/parameters when starting the gameclient, like where to go for the connection. If a Proxy gateway is being used, etc.

    In any case, the Launcher should always be used to start the game, just to check if a important file in the game has a new updated version that must be used...

    Well at this point now, after the maintenance, I am again able to login. It would appear to be server side issue I was facing (an extremely aggravating one at that). I'll edit the first post to reflect this update, despite the fact the thread is not a long one. I know many people never get past the first post when reading.

    sarlix1- I didn't get your advice till just now, but should I come across the same problem in the future I'll give it a try. That should at least confirm a launcher or server side problem. However, let us hope the issue doesn't surface again. :)

    server are everything BUT stable. i get server not responding disconnects and then i have to wait in a queue for a log in. thats really fun.... strange, that cryptic cant afford some addition to there servers so the game wont rubberband. pvp or pve not spoken of, im questing man ! and its laggy... sad.
