I for one don't plan to abandon my KDF toon anytime soon. I'm working on Omega and Romulan reputation and that's what I'll be doing for the time being. Even though I bought the Legacy Pack, I'm in no hurry to make a new Rom toon yet.
Why did I roll a KDF? because if I didnt I would only have the single fed character because the slot is locked with KDF and thats all i could do with it. So choice 1 use the slot and have a KDF or 2 dont use the slot and have a permanently empty slot. Same with LOR that was released today, free slot I am assuming is locked to that faction.
Better question is Why would anyone ask such a question?

Dark, gritty atmosphere of the kdf ships is appealing, doff assignments are more entertaining (executions!) - Lore, variety, but most of all:
It is impossible to not be able to dil cap with minimal effort: Dil for dying, dil for killing players, dil for killing npc's, dil for killing TURRETS. LOL. Dil for basically logging in and doing... anything.
While I agree that the variety for the KDF has seemed to be lacking, the real reason I didn't want to create a KDF toon was because I started at too high a level and not lvl 1. Now that that's not the case, I will go back and create another because I do like the storylines and the Klingons, Ferasan, Nausicans, Orions & Leatheans.
Don't get me wrong, I am a Fed thru and thru but now and then you need to get your yItlhutlh! on!
I see a riddiculous amount of troll posts from people that mostly play Fed. Anyone who plays KDF for a long time knows Sharpe is right. The KDF has been continously shafted since launch, this is just one more in a long list of them. Only this time its worse, they not even bothering to use KY now. The KDF had a hope with LoR adding Romulans to its ranks, that is mostly gone now. Without more numbers, that means no new content or stuff for KDF after this.
KDF still has a good deal of untapped potential. The only question is, will it ever be tapped? Based on the track-record of development with a trend of general neglect (largely due to low interest/population relative to Feds), the outlook is not so good.
While the ability to create a KDF player from the get-go, and the inclusion of a entry-level experience is a good start, it isn't hardly enough to bridge the gap that's been widened throughout the history of this game. On top of that, the fact that these steps were only taken on the back of a brand new, shiny ROMULAN-centered update tends to counteract some of the draw it might have otherwise been capable of generating.
The reality remains, beyond the typically malleable personal flavor preference, and with the trend of homogenization that has been taking place where gear/items are concerned, there just isn't much incentive or draw to roll KDF for most players.

I have to agree with this. I have nothing in particular against Romulans, but IMO their overall contribution to Star Trek canon does not compare with the Klingons'...so it's quite sad that in this game the KDF is practically an afterthought while so much glory goes to the new kids on the block.
I didn't roll a KDF character before because I didn't feel there was enough content to enjoy.
If, however, the OP's attitude is representative of the attitude of KDF players in general, I'll probably refrain from doing so now that the content problem is taken care of.
Please don't pretend like you were ever going to roll a KDF if all it supposedly takes is one forum complaint to put you off as if Fed side is full of such incomparably wonderful players. There are more valid reasons to not roll KDF like having very little unique content and much more expensive stuff.

What about the two extra ships, and Klinks can now start lvl 1, additional missions getting you to a par with Rommies and Feds.
Actually OMFG its the end of the Federation.
Ending the undue dominance of KDF power drainging battle cloak in PvP. Does not kill a faction.
Has there been imbalance yes absolutely, it wasn't even or all square with Fed and Klinks regarding startup and missions.
However far from being abandoned there has been more work on the KDF this season than FEDS hardly an indication Cryptic are trying to undermine there being a KDF faction but rather a commitment for KDF to be as fun for a casual or hardcore fanatic as for Feds.
I'm assuming the OP and yourself and as a few others stated will be continuing with KDF alts as main faction to play. Therefore why assume there will be a mass exodus by a bunch of others. PvP power gamers are a fairly small minority of the gaming community, often elitist and condescending.
Rather you should be celebrating the fact your being brought to more level terms regarding content.
LOL at you guys that are complaining that this update is not Fed-Centric!
Woe be to this game for the Klingons getting attention! Never mind the new stuff is only for starting levels! Never mind that being able to roll a KDF toon from the get-go should have been done when this game was released!
I have been here since early beta. I have 7 Fed toons. I have 7 KDF toons. Most of them have c-store or the old VA ships. I now have a Romulan toon and come a day or so I will have a Reman toon. Why? Uh because I like them. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!!

I actually agree with the OP about the console. I knew they were going to do that though, I totally freakin' called it. I was like, "mark my words, the new lockbox will have plasmonic leech". And now, because my best friend is broke, I need to go fed so I can play with him, since PL will be basically mandatory. He can't afford to buy a $10 ship for a single console when you can just get the same thing off the exchange for EC.
I would actually buy it for him but my computer got creamed by a power surge so I'm gonna be broke too paying for that.
It is kind of BS. They need to put non-cross faction consoles in lockboxes too.

Your best friend can't grind Dilithium for 2 or 3 weeks and buy the ship that way?
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

How many new KDF alts will still be used as anything more then contraband farmers a month from now? I doubt much. Those 2 new ship consoles are not very impresive, and I think most feds that even try KDF out now will just play the new episodes and afterwards let the character gather dust unless logging it in just to do some marauding. After that they can go back to their already leveled up and max rep fed and get all the best KDF stuff on it, so most won't bother sticking with KDF.
There is even less incentive to ally with KDF with your Romulan as a Fed Romulan will get all the same stuff at endgame, plus more active queues and Fed content.
I am pretty sure KDF will be even more of a minority of the playerbase instead of getting closer to parity with the Federation due to LoR. We might as well get it over with and absorb the KDF into a Fed subfaction like how the Romulans are. At least that way they can still have their own ships and episode series but get into the more active Fed queues.
