the pl giveaway is just the latest in things exclusive to the kdf faction that has been rendered otherwise. the cost/benefit of playing a kdf toon has been greatly skewed and thus will result in a greater disparity among kdf vs fed populations. LOR had the opportunity to remedy this by coaxing newly formed romulans to join the kdf ranks, but they instead decide to go for the money grab by funneling even more players into the already swelled fed ranks.
there simply is absolutely no reason to consider the kdf a separate faction. everything and anything that was unique to that faction is or will become available to the feds at some point.
it's impossible to lure potential allies when we as a faction have nothing left to offer. Klingons themselves as a species with their awesome ground trait is available for sale for 600z. all the consoles that would have enticed others to join are available for sale via the lockboxes. battle cloaking is now available to the feds via their romulan allies. carriers and pets have been long deserted as a kdf only feature. our orion women are available to you through your diplomacy doff TRIBBLE.
the opportunity cost of playing a kdf toon is staggering as well. boffs that you will need to remain competitive cost anywhere from 2x to 10x and are seldom seen or available on the exchange. our raptors and bops are no match for your escorts and rommy warbirds. your fed starbases and fleets are more established and have higher tiers available to them due in large part to the population disparity. we have a lot less pve content and our queue times are longer. marauding for contraband to convert to dil ore is no longer needed because of your dil mining claims. the amount and quality of cstore ships greatly outweighs ours. the amount of premium costume options and stuff packs favors you as well.
so why play Klingons? aside from the new missions, which are a one-off experience, why would anyone in their right mind play a faction that has so little going for it? with so little going for it and so much against it, it's even worse than the TRIBBLE ginger stepchild no one ever wanted.
the kdf will never reach the parity that I and so many other Klingons would like. not in terms of content, ships or anything. we will always receive complementary scraps by the development team and that is all we should aspire towards. it is blatantly clear that there is no real need for a second or third faction as all end game content is the same. there are no opposing interests here that would require anything more than one faction.
so in the end, with all this presented before you... I ask you, why would anyone want to roll a kdf toon? oh, and don't worry. i'm pretty sure fed carrier frigates are coming to a lockbox or c-store unlock near you.
So, another word-fest because the Feds got the Leech? The KDF have gotten all the Fed consoles too. Get over it already. And please keep in mind that the vast MAJORITY of STO players don't PvP, so to them the mighty Leech is a novelty more then anything else.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Also keep in mind Klingons are also getting a lot of what Federation players have, making it more likely for players to pick Klingon right from the start.
Or did you really want the lack of KDF content to be a 'unique Klingon thing'?
I'm coming back to the game, but I left because of the KDF did not have hardly any quests or story when I played. I did not care about any thing else. I wanted to feel like being one.
It has a more mature audience (seriously, on ESD i could spend HOURS to fill my ignore list).
Better Story missions.
Contraband is still cool....
STFs are still the same.
...
Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
I didn't roll a KDF character before because I didn't feel there was enough content to enjoy.
If, however, the OP's attitude is representative of the attitude of KDF players in general, I'll probably refrain from doing so now that the content problem is taken care of.
Because you have one dedicated KDF toon slot in your roster that you can't use for other faction characters.
...so I'm told by cosmic1.
If you follow twitter then you know that the FTP FAQ has just been updated to include the dedicated Rom character slot too.

Believe it or not a decent chunk of KDF is pretty cool people. The problem is, the KDF is so used to being slighted and ignored that some of them will jump on any opportunity to vent, even if it's a dumb reason.
Nuff said. You can have your pansy Vulcans, your phasers, your cloaking devices, and even pointy ear freaks called Romulans... but a good Gorn on your side... you might as well just call it quits, you are going to be winning the day soon enough!
It's a lot easier to earn Dilithium on KDF characters.
Also, I can't stand when people say "toon" instead of "character" or "avatar". Almost as irritating as when kids referred to "boards" instead of "maps" in shooters.

Your point would be valid if the console the feds got in exchange was of equal potential/power which it obviously isn't. And even if the vast majority of players don't pvp, that's all the more reason to keep the leech console a KDF only item so people are drawn towards playing KDF, even if it's only for PVE.
Edit: On a random tangential side note, I, too, hate it when people say "toons" instead of characters. This isn't cartoon network people; it's star-trek!!!
Because sometimes, you just don't give a care for 'diplomacy', you just want to blow stuff up and a Klingon never needs an excuse to shoot stuff or blow it up.
(Captain Klaa from "Final Frontier" took shots at old human space probes just to pass the time, for example.)

Your point would be valid if anyone but a very small group of KDF players cared. I am inclined to play Klingon because I'd enjoy a different play style and an opportunity to fly some cool-looking ships. I don't care about PvP much and now I have a lot of stuff to do as a Klingon. That's rad. That's gonna draw people in. The console is a non-issue for the vast majority of the player base.
I simply cannot grasp this petulant, petty, artificial tribalism. This bad attitude is far more of a turn-off to playing Klingon than any number of consoles.

I'll just copy and paste from another thread:
Cardie Lockbox - Graviton Pulse for Impulse Capacitance Cell.
Ferengi Lockbox - Theta Radiation for Photonic Displacer
Tholian Lockbox - Subspace Jump for Point-Defense System
Temporal Lockbox - Isometric Charge for Antimatter Spread
Dominion Lockbox - Bio-Neural Warhead for Nadeon Detonator.
Tal Shiar Lockbox - Plasmonic Leech for Ionized Gas Sensor
The KDF have already gotten access to the best Fed consoles in previous Lockboxes. We don't have that much left to give. Do you want the Grappler off my NX instead?

The House of beautiful Orion's has a tier 5 base and 500 member roster. We have so many people wanting to join our fleet that we decided to start a romulan fleet sub called House of beautiful romulans. This sub fleet will have access to the main bases tier 5 gear and ships. Currently this sub fleet is tier 2 and growing fast. This gives our membership 2 bases projects to gain fleet credits. So for you to say fed starbases and fleets are more established and have higher tiers available to them due in large part to the population disparity ..... is totally wrong. We are established to the point that feds run from us at karret as we hound the hell out of them on a daily basis. Orion women are available to you through your diplomacy doff TRIBBLE. Yes but they only get one Orion girl and i can get a feddy girl so whats ur point? Currently my main ship is an all Orion female .... can feds do that? I can run around playing the game in a bra and g-string can feds girls do that? Can rommys do that? no ..... As i am a visual learner and gamer I need to be an Orion female to stay interested. This is why i run a KDF. bye

This.
Seriously these "why would anyone roll X" questions are ridiculous. Because they like it, that's why.

Or did you really want the lack of KDF content to be a 'unique Klingon thing'?
its what he wants most out of LOR oddly.
So if anyone Sees a Gorn about named "Slassh" probably flying a clapped out B'rel please be nice to him.
p.s. May I suggest going out into the REAL WORLD and enticing real people to finally realize that they actually love and adore the Klingon race?

I listen to that while playing one. It did not give what I wanted. So i quit the game. I'm just now coming back that they added all the story to KDF.
I said I would and here I am. It took them long enough
...so I'm told by cosmic1.

One word will answer this question:
Why would anyone roll a KDF toon?
Answer: GORN

Still true statements, still silly and wrong for the same reasons.

at least in this game
because if there weren't Romulans, KDF is much cooler, have much better playerbase, and they ships are better. also, WE HAVE BLOODWINE!
