A small list of serious issues with STO

Dear Star Trek Online "Tribblers",

Allow me to re-re-introduce myself. I am a 30 years-old "Trekkian" who likes to... observe things. And, from what I observed so far, there are a few things that trouble me even though I don't pay to play,... yet. :) So, with your permission, here's my list of those few things that trouble me.

1.) The game launcher "frozen" numerous times while trying to "patch". Granted, now, that I barely updated it - at the expense of 12+ GBs of hard drive? - and registered myself to both Tribble and Redshirt - the latter one is quite confusing, to be honest -, it doesn't quite do so as before.

2.) The game itself "crashes" on me on a regular basis, but especially after a half or one full hour of gaming. And, let's say, 80+% of those cases are accompanied by the "BSoD". :D And that irritates me beyond words... I mean, it's always some memory dump with this game which runs under "Windows 7 Enterprise" on 32 bits with SP 1.

3.) In-game, on ground, my characters suffer either from temporary impairment or (very) poor AI because they always get stuck in some wall while running or simply following someone. And, on occasion, I can't even shoot or jab because I can't actually draw the weapon from its holster! Interesting... Not to mention that the *geometry*(?!) of the fencing arm is wrong in my character when battling beasts and/or foes. As for the ESD, it sometimes *disappears*! Just like in the "Remember me..." episode, section by section. And it has a hard time re-appearing. Also, most of the AI-ed NPCs are shown either *translucid* or *halfened*. And the: "Do you want to delete this character?", "Report as spam" and "Reset options to default?" messages continue to pop-up... Beside the routinely "X just unlocked a Jem'Hadar Attack Cruiser" or "Y bought himself/herself a Temporal Science Wessel" - to quote the "W" from Mr. Chekov -, of course.

4.) In-game, in space, my ship sometimes can't fire its weapons when pressing "Fire All Weapons" even though I selected the target and it's sitting right in front of me! This happens especially in the PvEs and STFs. Oh, and when I reach a system, why do I have to circle around it several times so that I can get the: "Enter... / Patrol... / Continue..." button? I mean, I have to turn my ship around, navigate upwards and/or downwards and, on a fourth or fifth try, I succeed! :)

5.) In-game, my Account Bank is still not reachable. Why is that, please? I can't seem to access this account for none of my characters!... Be they Holodeck or Tribble or Redshirt. Furthermore, my Dilithium-for-Zen transaction proved to be a bust some 10 days ago - I don't remember exactly - when I tried and did spend 7.5 K worth of Dilithium for some 300 pieces of Zen. The obvious thing is that, so far, I got NO Zen.

Any thoughts, please? Sorry to nag you with these, but you know... :)

i've never experienced anything that you say you have here. nor have I heard of anyone else having experienced them. i'd say whatever the problem is its on your end
when I tried and did spend 7.5 K worth of Dilithium for some 300 pieces of Zen

uh. no. at no point in this games history have you been able to buy 300 zen for 7500 dilithium, so I don't know where you're getting that from

The account bank is ony acessable by gold members or silver players who have purchased the account bank slots. as far as your dilithium exchange goes, surre u may have asked for 300 zen for your 7500 dilithium, but that doesnt mean u r going to get it. u have to wait for someone to offer zen at that rate. which at teh rate it is now, isnt going to happen any time soon
*Me*Why don't you just step away from the weapons console. You and I both know that you couldn't hit that cube, even if it was right in front of us.
*Junior Tactical Officer* But sir the cube IS right in front of us.
*Me* EXACTLY! Its right in front of us and you still missed it! Just step away from the console.

Of course I bug reported them. What do you think? :) I even wrote them via E-mail! :) Still, no answer... I'm hoping that *this* will trigger *some* official response, though. As for the transactions, c'mon! Then, why do I spend my dilithium for bidding for Zen? It was 1 Zen for 25 Dil the ratio. No more, no less.

P.S. All right... No Zen for me, then. I have to pay actual money for it, huh? :) Maybe I should quadruple my offers for those pieces of "gold". As for the Account Bank goes, well, I'm in NO hurry with it, to tell you the truth.

Thanks for your promptness, though! ;)

most of these bugs you just have to deal with..

the AI sucks.. in a few missions they run off or just run in circles.. the ones that come to mind are the breen missions and the klingon after life missions.

on my computer in the klingon afterlife mission most of the large room is missing. its just black textures.. been that way since the game came out..

as far as your account bank.. if you werent gold or lts you have to buy it with zen before it works.

also. as far as zen to dil go..did you take it out of the "zen bank" ?

you have to collect it before you can spend it.

Plenty of things will disable weapons: weapon power, abilities, cooldowns, weapon arcs...
5.) In-game, my Account Bank is still not reachable. Why is that, please? I can't seem to access this account for none of my characters!...

Not sure 'bout this, but any meaningful use of the account bank for silver players requires zen.

Number 2 seems to be a problem with your computer, maybe overheating, or some damaged dll's... worst case it could be a damaged ram module.

Number 5... are you a free player?... if you are; do you purchase the account bank slots from the store?, i you don't that's why you don't have accest to the account bank.

Also.. Nobody will give you 300 zen for 7500 dilithium, at current prices on the dil exchange you will need around 39000 dilithium for 300 Zen

Does this perchance happen while fighting Tholians and/or the Breen? Tholians and Breen routinely disable your weapon power, which you would see if you checked the power bar. When this happens guess what - you can't fire.

The fix is using a Weapon Battery or EPtW, otherwise you just have to wait for the debuff to clear.

I don't think you're understanding how the Dilithium Exchange works. You may want to take a look at http://sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=770251

For ground stuff, keep in mind you have controls available to manually move and position your bridge officers if needed.

For weapon firing, besides the numerous disables that enemies might do, weapons also have a firing time, and if they just fired, and you switch targets and hit space, they may not fire again right away because they can't yet.

As for crashing, check for updated drivers and all that. I play STO a lot (including Tribble and Redshirt), and I haven't seen it crash in at least 8 months now.

Guess what? I can't fight the Breen! :D I barely reached the Terran - Tholian - Cardassian engagements. :) But you may be right! I mean, I fought these "hazy" beams and torps before, so...

Probably because of the huge patch that just hit Tribble. I have the same problem.

Thx, TangoLight! I'll look into the transactions "manual" right now. Concerning the Away Team... I know of the Way Points. I was just worried about my occasional inability to fire. :)

Are you clicking the fire button with your mouse or using the keyboard? Former seems to bug for some people.

Many times when the game crashes on me, I find the cryptic error logger process running in the background. I need to kill the game client process tree, restart the launcher and log in, and then restart the launcher yet again. Same thing when I try using the verify files option from the launcher :(

Gonna put my two cents into this,
I've experienced just one of these problems, the launcher crashing

Everything else is either a problem with your computer or your lack of understanding of STO game mechanics.

You're *half* right. My understanding of the "STO"... 'mechanics' grows with each hour, day by day. :) And the crashes with those BSoD are my pain, especially.

The crashes are probably because your laptop is overheating. STO is a high res game that uses a lot of video energy. Laptops often crash - which is why many people who play high res games on a laptop buy a cooling pad to try and keep the temp down.

The crashing could also be a RAM issue - one of your RAM cards is bad and slamming your system off when it gets stressed. There's no way of knowing about that without doing a RAM test, though.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Actually...no, most of those aren't actual problems with the game, but just lack of knowledge about STO, or computer issues not directly related to STO, or at least, not something Cryptic can fix.
