Do you receive that ship as a reward from that mission? The mission currently awards a Starfleet player a Starfleet ship; it awards a Klingon player a Klingon ship; it should award a Romulan player the choice of a Romulan ship. That is, if stated, they're really meant to be their own faction.
It only offers your ally choice of reward, which is a tier 3 ship I think. So fairly pointless and not needed. Temporal ambassador is a mission currently set around the lvl 20 mark on tribble. You wouldn't be in that ship for long even if there was a romulan version.
This is very disapointing to hear. Why can't we have a faction that looks genuine and not like a freakshow? I understand the Federation being inclusive and having many aliens besides the canon races, and to a certain extent the KDF letting some conquered people join forces with them, but why Romulans? The people that want to play Avataar characters or Batman or Homer Simpson can stil play Fed or KDF without ruining the immersion of the Romulan faction.
You're right on the spot. I really thought that this was one of Cryptic's better decisions in STO and fitted the birth of the Romulan Republic story, but somehow and for some strange reasons they managed to make a U-turn.
Guess Batman had his Bat-mobile crashed on the Romulan colony while fighting the Joker, so now he'll live amongst Romulan farmers untill he forges an alliance with Starfleet so he can continue his eternal battle of good vs evil against the Joker. Oh, yeah, there will be Joker too, no doubt about it. Only he'll be joining KDF for the sake of "immersion".
I know its probably too late to stop this without overwhelming feedback, but I think the devs should know this makes me much less motivated to even play Romulan now. I still will, but it probably won't be immediately, and I won't devote as much time to it as I planned. I also will not spend nearly as much on it right away or won't be preordering the LoR pack now unless this decision is reversed.
For a moment there, I thought that I typed this. That is exactly how I feel. I'm not a Romulan fan in particular, but I like where they're taking the story with the Romulan Republic and really looked forward for a more genuine Trek like faction that was previosely announced. Now I'm like - meh.
Like you said, eventually I'd go through the story, but not asap cause I'm much less motivated now to neglect my existing chars. for a new Romulan. Guess Romulans may have some love, but as it is, after I go through the new Rep. and missions with my KDF main and my primary Fed.
I was really looking foward to being able to ditch the freakshow looking factions and be able to join a much better looking one, and am prepared to support the existence of such a faction with a lot of money. The Romulans should be much more homogenous and only have canon races, Romulan, Reman, and very rare Romulan Hybrids that still look mostly Romulan, and liberated borg are ok too I guess.
Best to have no aliens at all if the alien hybrid isn't ready.
This is also what I was thinking. I'm all for IDIC and the universe is full of miscellaneous species, some of them look very different from what we may expect, but there's is a fine line before this becomes ridiculous. I have nothing against aliens like, let's say the one that walshicus has is his signature, but when I encounter Spiderman & Superman in a Star Trek game something just feels wrong.
Yes, many will say that us that feel this way should mind our own business and not care what other players do with their chars. However you can ignore some things like ridiculous ship names by disabling the visuals in sector space, but when Homer Simpson stands next to me working on a console on DS9 it really breaks the Trek ambience. And I'd reckon many of us play STO because we like Star Trek and want to play a role in the genuine Trek universe.
I know that the character customization is one of Cryptic's strongest points, but I really believe that the alien-gen should be restrictive in some areas. Just my 2 cents.
Your souloution should have been no alien gen at all. Makes a mockery of the special story of the romulan republic. You know that some what xenophobic species you've made an expansion for. There be yodas, umpa lumpas, jokers the list of crazy aliens is endless. Sigh
Yep, and here I thought the new faction would be spared from the usual madness players encounter at the social hubs in STO. The initial plan to restrict these deformed creatures was fine and it made sense in regard to the rather 'exclusive' Romulan nature. Moreover the Romulan storyarcs I had the chance to test on tribble don't make any sense if the players character is not Romulan. EVERYONE in these arcs assumes that your character is Romulan. I wouldn't even recommend playing a Reman. We already have Starfleet as this game's multspecies-faction, why has every other faction to be a copy of that?
I think the only one who really wanted the alien gen was that annoying podcast guy. We can thank him for constantly pestering the devs until this happened.
you do already.....the Dhelan Warbird is described in tribble as being designed in the early 24th century...same time as the Enterprise C
I noticed that too, but it doesn't seem likely, does it? All of the Romulan ships of the 24th century that we have seen have clean, sleek lines with an art-deco look. This even goes toward the somewhat primitive looking scout and science vessels, which too have rounded/soft edges. The Dhelan has a bat-like, arcane, sharp winged look that didn't appear till Nemesis. I would say it's more Reman than Romulan. But this is just my own opinion.
One thing to remember, is that while Romulans are xenophobic, they're not xenophobic in the sense that they don't tolerate any other species. They're more xenophobic in that they're paranoid about any species that's not in the Romulan Star Empire (thought they're also pretty paranoid about everyone else in the RSE. Comes with the territory). The RSE was listed as having numerous subject species within the Empire long before Nemesis, just the Remans are the only ones ever shown or mentioned. Presumably, virtually all of the subject species are/were treated about as well as the Remans were, most as slaves with a lucky few serving Romulans in high positions. So you could make the case in that regard for other species to appear in the Romulan Republic, afterall, if they're reconciling with the Remans, why not other subjugated species? Not that I want to see every second character being non-Romulan for the Romulan Republic; Romulans should constitute the very clear majority.
That all said, I always wanted to play as the Romulan Star Empire, not the Romulan Federation of Planets. Not that I didn't enjoy the first bunch of missions I played on Tribble, they were quite good, but I would have preferred having your peace-loving diplomatic faction, your warrior faction and your sneaky paranoid SOB faction.
Looks as if all the Romulan specific Veteran Rewards are marked as:
*Will not be available at the launch of Legacy of Romulus but is currently planned for development.
Currently, that list includes:
100 Days FREE Costume Piece - Veteran Romulan Combadge*
200 Days FREE Costume Piece - Special Romulan Veteran Uniform Option*
500 Days FREE Exclusive Costume Piece (Romulan)*
800 Days Unique Duty Officer Assignment*
900 Days FREE Exclusive Romulan Starship "Material"*
900 Days FREE Exclusive Romulan Uniform Variant* 1000 Days Republic Veteran* See EDIT below.
1000 Days FREE Exclusive Romulan Veteran Starship*
1000 Days Exclusive Forum Title to Choose From - Republic Veteran*
I guess the 1000 Days "Republic Veteran" reward is listed twice because it will be an in-game title and forum title? Currently there's no actual mention of it being an in-game title as well.
Is there any sort of timeline as to when we'll be seeing these rewards become available?
EDIT: Shortly after posting this I logged onto Tribble to check my Romulan and immediately received the "Republic Veteran" title!
Playing STO since August 2010
Playing Neverwinter since July 2014

Centurion maximus92
12th Legion, Romulan Republic
12th Fleet
=\/= ================================ =\/=
On the other hand, the Remans are easier to understand than Species 38912478.
BUT... being an RPer, I can see why somebody would make a Romulan alien, choosing to ignore the complete lack of immersion in the storyline. :P
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.

Maybe we should all get podcasts and be whiny idiots to get our way? It seems to work.
