I think I may have posted about this before, but anyway:
Kirk have Khan. Picard have Shinzon. Sisko have Dukat. Janeway have Borg Queen.
We seriously need to have them introduce a Nemesis mode into STO, aka "design your own villian". This may actually give us something interesting to play.
I asked this as my question in several ask cryptic Q & A's. It never got a response. CO has a nemesis system. It would be a cool addition to the game. I mean, imagine flying through sector space and being surprise attacked by the forces of your nemesis. Imagine facing off with your nemesis one on one. How would any of that be bad for STO?

Wouldn't work out for me though, as my KDF is "Related" to my Fed Engie, and they would refuse to fire on each other and focus on other targets.
Although I do have mirror versions of 2 of my 3 Feds via outfits...
Mirror all the way, I too would like to fight my ultimate nemesis on STO, JJ Abrams!!!!!! ,
but failing that, my toon's federation mirror. An episode series set in the mirror universe, where you fight yourselves, if the devs could consider all us mirror fans' suggestions for new mirror content.
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."

The mirror universe thing seems the easiest, but if we could have our own villains, it would be pretty cool.
probably harder to pull off than in CO as its a bit more generic being a superhero thing. Could be a little tricker here, but certainly not impossible.
Mirror Universe might work quite well with Starfleet. We've seen how that generally plays out in Star Trek episodes and we'd know what to expect.
Except that in DS9 we learn that the Terrans are no longer in control and the mirror counterparts aren't entirely all bad. In STO, of course, we see another reversal and the Terran Empire seems to be back and bad in 2409.
What we don't know a whole lot about are Mirror Klingons and Mirror Romulans.
We do know (from DS9: Crossover, Through the Looking Glass, etc) that there was a Klingon-Cardassian Alliance in the MU and that those guys are really nasty. The only Klingon we ever see is Regent Worf. But the Mirror Klingons we encounter in STO 2409 ("The Other Side") include a surprisingly helpful Ja'rod in the role of good guy. So I don't know what to think. We haven't been given enough information about what the Mirror universe is like in 2409.
What Mirror Romulans might be like, I haven't a clue.
But, it does present something of an opportunity in the form of an FE-type storyline involving the MU where we'd learn about what the MU is like in 2409 and encounter our mirror counterpart for the first time. How Cryptic could possibly pull that off, I haven't a clue.
One way might be to give every player a "mirror universe costume slot" which would allow everyone to build out their own MU counterpart which Cryptic could then essentially copy into some kind of placeholder. We probably wouldn't get to pick the ship, but they might be able to copy whatever ship we happen to be flying and put different markings on it.
The downside is that this would limit your Nemesis to the mirror universe. I'd rather have more freedom to pick one from among various factions. If not more than one.
Arguably, it would be easier to have more than one recurring badguy if Cryptic doesn't have to store any information beyond what they look like, what enemy group and career branch they're in, and the name and bio of the badguy. All of the "minions" and ships would be derived from the enemy group as standard.
TBH, I've never experienced the Nemesis system in Champions and don't really have any idea how well it might map to STO.

I agree a Nemesis system ala Champions Online would do a lot to improve the "alive" feeling of Star Trek Online.
In fact, I think that is one of the major issues with the game as it is. There are not enough dynamic events taking place. Space is vast and yet other than the random Borg attacks in quadrants, we do not have many things occurring.
One possibility is some sort of engagement type event. Like a task force of blah have been spotted in sector blah. Then you find the armada and engage in that sector. This could reignite the feel of a conflict between the two main factions.
Maybe some other random thing that could appear in a sector would be an anomaly. Here you would investigate it. Random distress calls, etc.... There are so many possibilities available. I really hope they have a major update some time down the road which focuses on making the STO universe feel more dynamic and alive.
I think if they put this in they should have a ton of options so you could make your nemesis be one of your other characters, or your mirror counterpart, or something entirely new. Put all those options in and leave it all up to the player.
That would be fun having your own alts be the bad guy. the only problem would be they would come off generic sounding and not like how you would want them to act. For example my Gorn sci captain would never waste time on an evil master mind speech unless he was stalling for some reason.
Maybe have the "personalities" more..."Advanced"...say have for alts who arnt a talkative type be a "shoot first ask questions later" or (for the gorn at least) have them more...animalistic

This is kind of why I suggested that a STO Nemesis system needs to build off an existing enemy group. It would make it a lot easier for Cryptic to write missions and dialogue that would work with a Nemesis and they could reuse a lot of the same resources in place for the rest of the game.
Say you pick a Nemesis who is a True Way Cardassian. They could re-write existing Cardassian missions to shoehorn in a Nemesis as well as write new Cardassian missions just for the Nemesis system. The bad guys would look, talk, and act like Cardassians because the dialogue and the mission objectives would have been built that way.

I would love to have a mirror be more of a khan type, or even a shinzon type, someone who knows you better than you know yourself. Just think of the epic battles.
