Will we be able to earn the Trophy with this encounter?
Yes. There are still trophies granted for receiving First, Second and Third place each time you run the encounter.
To head off further questions, here's some insight into how you are scored during the event:
You will be scored for each of the following, at various amount of tracked "contribution points":
* Every point of damage dealt to the Crystalline Entity
* Every point of healing given to anything on the map
* Any Tholian ship you help destroy
* Any Large Crystalline Fragment you help destroy
* Any Small Crystalline Fragment you help destroy
We attempted to work in additional scoring mechanisms for "Damage Prevented on Self" as well as something for Controls/Debuffs, but were unable to get them in and tested before the event is scheduled to go live.

Cool. Something new to do! And I have to admit that I like the rewards, even if it's just ore and not refined dil. I think my fleetmates and I will happily run this event at least once a day.
I really like the idea of the event reputation and encourage people to play a given event but not feel restricted to a given hour so I really hope Cryptic expands on this.
The only question mark I have about the whole thing is the contribution threshold; 14/21 to some might be a bit too much. Perhaps 50% of the event would be better than 66% but that's just me I. Some may not necessarily have premade/private teams to rely upon.
Don't worry i've been there during the testing phase and this event is extremely easy. Don't trust a dev when he says you'll need tremendous survivability abilities to suceed: read "for the average player", and the average player isn't good, according to my foundry experience.

I think this is a nice change of direction.
Questions!
1) Will actual effective healing be taken into consideration or can I spam heal others who are at 98% health but I still get credit for tossing out 15K+ worth of heals even though they were only scratched?
2) Will there still be a "1st" place mechanic, encouraging self-promoting play or will the final loot bag be based on a "group performance" threshold? i.e. once the "water level" of performance rises above this line, everyone gets a class A reward.

I don't actually know the answer to this. You're asking whether or not "Overhealing" is scored? I'll try and find out, but I make no promises on being able to find an answer. Folks around here are pretty darn busy with other tasks, as you can imagine.

It's all individually tracked, not group-wide.

14 out of 21 days is too much in my opinion, and 14 days makes it feel like a chore.
You should make the minimum requirement no more than half of the time the event will be active. Say 7 or 10 out of 21. Also perhaps extend the event to a month instead of just 3 weeks.
Even better would be 2 days per week the event is active, that would let people who can only play on weekends participate.

Yes, sorry "overhealing" is a better term than my verbose question was.
Yes, I imagine they are quite busy and thanks for looking into it.
not sure about the Tholians, and it seems there is no real Story behind the Tholians helping it beyond a "oh well they look kinda related somehow... maybe they ARE!?!?!"...
hmmhmmhmm...
"Event Reputation" ... sounds like a neat idea to introduce new content like this.
Rewards... 50k dil... ORE... ... hnnh ...how about REFINED instead?
It's a one time thing so, would it hurt to give us refined dil for once?
But well if the reward is, that i don't need to play for the next 6,25 days....
i don't know how i feel about that.
And... another PET
Hey you little Crytal pet, guchi guchi boobooboo, you want to know how i got you?
yah good boy you wanna know right... yaaah you dooo... I KILLED YOUR MOMMY! ... 14 TIMES!!!
It's supposed to be fun, not a grind. You may ignore the rewards, they are completely optional.
And i think this is a nice event even if it's not difficult at all, and something people could call "yet another dps race". It has interesting mechanics and there you really need scis.
Oh yeah I forgot. I like all the pets, I really do. But can we please get the separate pet window/inventory like Champs has finally? It's like, I love the little buggers but man, my bank and inventory, "She cannae take any more!" :P

That would be *really* nice if you could get that to work. It would make threat hogging and tanking a viable tactic for trying to get first place in Fleet Actions.
So you take the only mission which demand from player to know what and when to do to succeed killing boss, and remake it that anyone can do it by simple shooting as fast as it possible?
Yes. There are still trophies granted for receiving First, Second and Third place each time you run the encounter.

Are the trophies the same as from the previous Crystalline Catastrophe fleet action? And if not, is it now impossible to get the original trophy?
So I derped a little in my last post and somehow thought that tachyon beam and charged particle burst were engineering abilities, making me thing my jemmy heavy escort carrier would be useful again, which apparently it won't afterall. Oh well, gives me an excuse to pick up that fleet advanced escort I've had my eye on.

Yes, same trophies.
It's possible that they will get updated in the future, since the visuals no longer match the Entity itself, but we haven't made that update as of yet.
If we do so, the visuals on all related trophies would be changed/updated.

I'd like to repeat a suggestion that has been brought up before. Can we please change non-combat pets so they don't take up inventory space or at least make a separate inventory tab/storage for them? This would be a nice quality of life feature for players that I believe is long overdue.

Is it really a good strategy to have an event that you have to grind 14 days or you get nothing? I'd much rather have an event where everyone can participate and get something fun, rather than a limited event that rewards only grinding.
And if you gather more than 14 Crystal Shards, each additional one can be traded in for another 100 Fleet Marks, using another Event Reputation Project that will become available after the main Project is completed
I think it's very short-sighted to have an event and only reward a 14-day grind. Even the winter event had items for people who couldn't do the whole grind for the Breen ship.
Hopefully, I won't get in too much trouble for posting this here after having first commented it on the blog article. It just seems like here I'll have a better chance of getting a possible answer to some of the questions I had...
I'm among those who enjoy the Reputation System and what you're doing with it - especially the addition of Tholian (finally, Nuke Prime has a purpose for non-fleet players) and Event Reputations. I am, however, somewhat confused by the way you describe the Event Rep.
1; you say 'Seasonal Projects', does that mean that projects will only be available to be started at certain times of the year and if we miss out on a project, we have to wait until it comes back again, or will these be special projects offered in addition to standard, year-round available projects?
2; Will each Event be able to have an active project or will we have to pick and choose which Events to focus on?
3; Will Events include only PvE queues like 'Crystalline Catastrophe', 'Big Dig' and such or will it also include single player events like War Zones, Dil. Mining, 'Emancipation', etc?

^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...
Not thrilled about another event to grind out autographs, I mean 'shards'. But for 50k/1k rewards, I can suck it up. At least we only need to do it 14 times instead of 25 this time. I've not had alot of time to play this semester, so even 14 times might be a bit rough for me. (4 toons = 56 runs, yay.)
So this means my 4 toons could make me 200k ore? Nice. (Prepare for more threads whining about raising the refining cap.) Though such a big chunk of Dil makes me wonder if the "we're happy with the rate of Dil players are making" is still true? I know my Dil income has suffered alot in S7. Before S7 I'd drop 200k Dil into fleet projects w/o a 2nd thought. Now 1k gives me pause.
Was surprised that Cryptic was so honest about the sucktasticness of the old encounter. Companies usually sugar coat such things. "Not working as intended" or etc.
One time on the old one, I entered the encounter when there was 5% left, and before I could even get moving it was back to 54% and half the players warped out in disgust and chat messages voicing their displeasure with whomever screwed up. I never was able to kill that thing. Only kill I ever saw was on Youtube by a kick-a fleet/team who obviously practiced alot together.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.
