I doubt that realistically this would happen but I would envision a mission where Temporal Investigations sends the player back in time to 2233 to destroy the Narada before it destroys the USS Kelvin thereby preserving the prime timeline before the changes catch up to 2409
The very existence of the Narada is an anomaly that was cooked up by JJ Abrams. Whoever was doing the meat-and-potatoes work of the movie didn't really have the Trek feel dialed. The Narada looks NOTHING like a Romulan vessel, it's not using Romulan weapons, it has some ridiculous excuse for a drill apparatus. The movie is fundamentally flawed, but folks are okay with it 'cause it sells movie tickets.
Urgh. Just keep that stupid, inexplicable ship out of STO. I don't like being reminded of that idiotic 'alternate timeline'.
My PvP toon is Krov, of The House of Snoo. Beware of my Hegh'ta of doom.
I'm reminded of it every time I remember that Romulus exploded due to a recent supernova in a neighboring star. Because supernovas work that way. So deal?
The Narada was a unique prototype mining ship hybridized with Borg technology and it was destroyed, may it rest in peace................. for the love of all that's holy, Please, let it be.
It's way too big for a player ship and there is no way that it's existence in this timeline could be convincingly explained.
Why are people always asking for the ugliest ships in the franchise? Cubes, Spheres and now the Narada. What's next? A players version of the Doomsday Machine?
ORLY? The technology used to create it came from this timeline. sooo... yeah... Maybe not something identical but something using the same tech is very understandable.
The Narada was a unique prototype mining ship hybridized with Borg technology and it was destroyed,
please stop .....this ship was NEVER hybridized with borg anything...remember memory alpha is your friend
well, if you read the Apocrypha section of the Narada's article, it mentions that in countdown it was mentioned it has had borg modifications. so in STO's timeline yes the Narada had borg enhancements. whether in the JJTrek it was retconned or not, is unknown.
In the Star Trek prequel comic book miniseries Star Trek: Countdown, the Narada's advanced weaponry and appearance are explained as being the result of the ship being retrofitted with salvaged and reverse-engineered Borg technology. The Tal Shiar in the 24th century had been experimenting with Borg technology, and Nero's ship was the experimental vessel used. The Borg nanoprobes allowed the ship to grow and repair itself, and also take on a much larger and more menacing appearance. This information also appeared on the Blu-ray release of the film in the supplement section "Starships."
It even says this information is mentioned on the Blu-Ray edition of the movie....

I go by memory alpha the canon for non canon stuff so I stand corrected...oh now so is the gimmick gonna be rom ships are half borg now ?

Who gives a damn? If it wasn't important enough to mention in the movie itself, then it has no more weight than somebody at the local comic book store mentioning it.
Intent is all well and good, but when looking at a story it is what's on the page/in the frame that counts.
I like the concept of the Narada, but as said elsewhere in this thread she was a modified mining vessel. The borg enhancements came from the Forge - also a component of the comic prequel to JJtrek, yet here as well.
As a combat ship - no not impressed. Although the fragmenting kinetic torpedos are cool.
As a mining ship, now THAT has possibilities. Maybe as a ship that explores terrirtory and recovers dilithium at 10K per day...
Don't know why all the new Romulan ships and of course anything Reman, has to look like an aborted affair between an arachnid and a wombat, but I can't- not see those ugly ships flying around. It's bad enough all if the Fed/KDF zones are polluted with bizarre ships, but these would just would make it impossible to ignore.

Definately. Romulan ships are supposed to embody both intimidation and fragile elegance at the same time. The Narada does neither, and looks more like a pinecoen made of barbed wire than anything a Romulan would be caught dead in.
The Narada was, bar none, the most dysfunctional ship ever put into Star Trek. It was an octopus whose limbs were covered, if not outright replaced, with spiny kabob skewers. If you didn't cheer for the destruction of that garbage scow you have no soul.
We need more weird weapons. This is Star Trek after all.
A lot of the wierd weapons are unfortunately designated as consoles. I would love a Breen energy dissipator that worked as a weapon, with a higher rate of fire (but probably less effective) getting off one shot per fight for a lot of these weapons isn't a lot of fun.

Wow the narada or hellraisers abortion
Sure apparently it was once a romulan mining vessel modified by romulan borg tech.
I was curious to how nero and the miners got hold of it.
So it goes like this
Big star go boom, romulan star empire does not know what to do
Spock and miners do anyway too late
Romulus is doomed no ships but neros ship in orbit
Apparently in the evacuation the ruler of the empire and his staff left behind and neros wife
Nero beams up politicians and angry decides to kill them
Not before taking the leaders staff
They fly to secret military base and nero with staff is granted full access go the base and its goodies
There they get borg tech
That is a summary of the canon comic
I liked parts of st 2009
But every thing "romulan" was wrong. Looked wrong and felt wrong.
That back story is so hilarious i thought it must be a joke

Wait, so all that 2009 stuff was a joke, BUT ... being a farmer on a backwater planet and joining D'Tan on New Romulus for the great Epohh Tagging Hunt is serious business?

Seriously I will take any STO take on Romulans over that films mistreatment of the race-was it that hard for JJ to have some traditional aspect of a race be kept? You their know Vulcan like looks-Nope! bald miners with tatts-Romulan ship look? Nope Hellraisers cruiser will do! The race has been around since The original series? Who cares!
JJ just walked up to Berman -look once your done-Can i TRIBBLE with the franchise? Sure but the fans are mighty angry-thats ok I have a hokey pokey its all a re-imangined full of holes its another timeline thing that will confuse them than wang bang I dazzle them with zippo effects -while they all gasp and awe-i get to blow Romulus up and Vulcan.
Yep sign me up I will hunt rats with the Republic better than that mess of a movie and its unjust TRIBBLE of the Romulans

STO seems to be increasingly following Trek 2009's storyline, really (over)emphasizing the destruction of the homeworld as a basis for the Empire being so (ridiculously) weak. Combined with a vexing fixation on themes from nemesis (reman liberation army everywhere! Everyone is in rebellion against the pointy eared meanies!) I think it will be a bit hard for me personally, IMO to enjoyably play the Romulan faction because of how much Cryptic seems to be incessantly reminding me of what a number those two movies did to the RSE.

It's not JUST the destruction of their homeworld, but the civil war/s that followed it. IF they hadn't had a Civil war they would be much better off now...
Is it just me, or does it seem that if the Romulans were portrayed in that movie the way they were in the various series the Tal Shiar would have found out about the Hobus plot and stopped it, then had everyone involved along with their families tortured then executed. Most likely in a public fashion as a deterrant to anyone else who may have similar ideas.

Play the Taris mission then get back to me on that.

We already have mining. It's less fun than killing things.
That's not mining, that's a bad Wario Ware ripoff IN SPACE. THIS IS MINING.
It'd be especially fun if we could get the cluster torpedos.

That sir was an excellent shot:) No Shields up on that-sorry still have to say ST 2009 is as messy as that things poo.

"This" Romulus is part of, or at the very least a direct result of "that" Romulus. There's really not much difference.
