Can't wait to blow up a few of these new ships ( in ker'rat) on the first day they come out.
Ah yes. Beware feddies, you will be hunted a little extra that day
Just a little rain for your parades.
And when it turns out that the Kumari line of ships actually has 5 Forward Weapons, at least 2 Aft Weapons, and a total of 10 Consoles... Then your threats will be well warranted. Because then the Kumari will be the single most powerful ship in the game.
If however, it turns out to have anything less than what I have specified (less than 5 Forward Weapons, or less than 2 Aft Weapons, or less than 10 Consoles, or some combination of these less than's) then your threats are unjustified in any regard because then, it will just be another ship of the line and not a threat.
What I expect to see is a ship that is about equal to the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship without being so exorbitantly over priced as to make it near impossible for the vast majority of the gaming community to be able to access it. This way people other than just those who are willing to shell out the equivalent to 400,000,000 to 500,000,000 energy credits can actually have an opportunity to participate in serious competitive level PvP and other things.
Heh... and the irony of this thing being a flying gun means that they will try to distract us from the obvious short-falls of the other two ship classes by baiting us with this new escort. And they have stressed it's wing-mounted cannons to the point where they will try to distract us from the fact that beams are not nearly as good as they should be.
I see this ship as two things.
1) A distraction away from the problems with cruisers and science ships.
2) A beautifully designed (at least as it's in-game sprite goes) escort/heavy escort/destroyer based off of a nice (albeit ancient) ship design.
I will reserve further judgment until it's stats come out. Hopefully it's not as much of a disappointment as the JHEC and JDC were.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
My thinking on it's BOff layout:
Cmdr Tac
LtCmdr (changes based on which model of ship it is)
Lt (changes based on which model of ship it is)
Lt Engi
Ensign Sci
Probably around 33-35k base HP, probably turn rate of 15 or 16, inertia probably around 60-65, weapon layout likely to be 4/3. Usual +15 bonus weapon power, probably a high shield mod though, .99 or 1.0. Likely to be a 4/3/2 console layout (maybe 4/2/3 for the science one), probably 3 device slots.
Just a thought. Will wait til dev blog comes out and then laugh at all the rage threads against it being underpowered, or laugh at all the drool threads at it being so powerful XD.

Well the official stats for these ships are out. I'm fed and even I agree KDF is gonna need equivalents with how powerful these things are. That said they're really fragile, but I don't know how anything could withstand a Kumari-class alpha-strike with all three consoles and the set bonus from them.
Weapons, 5 Fore 2 Aft
Andorian Phasers (unknown bonus/difference, my guess is they're standard phaser DHCs but colored blue) as standard armament, with one weapon slot being taken by Kumari wing cannons (removable).
The most fragile of the line has 5 tac consoles, Cmdr. Tac, Lt.Cmdr Tac, Lt Tac, Lt Universal, and Ensign Engineering.
That tactical version of the escort... wow. If a rabbit farts the thing would kerplode! But geez... 5 tactical console slots.
The other two would make decent eSTF ships though.
* rub chin. *
EDIT: 5 Forward guns, but one of those slots takes up the Wing Cannons. Without those, you can't use any of the special features. Wonder just how good the Wing Cannons actually are.
Edit:Edit: Well... lets see what everyone will use for their Boff and Weapon/Console layouts!
We shall find out on Thurs. At least the Vesta Class goes on sale now when this is released. YAY! Wait, I own 2 already...
I agree that the Klingons need their version... though I think they are getting a KDF version if its one of the ships Al vaguely mentioned in the Priority One Podcast recently...
As of Tuesday, Feb 19, the game is already favouring escorts.
On Thursday the 21st, everyone will be flying Andorian Rocketships.
Where is the balance?
Also, it seems the Odyssey and Kumari ships get custom bridges. What about the Vesta?

I agree, I will never use the tactical version. Why do I need Cmdr, Lr. Cmdr, AND Lt. Tac Boff slots? That Lt isn't doing much for me, and I will use it as engi or sci and get a lot more tank without losing one iota of damage. Also, that 5th tac console? I don't care about it. It doesn't matter. With diminishing returns, if you are going all energy damage, you really aren't getting much out of that 5th tac console. I'd rather use it for an extra universal or a neutronium or field gen. I am really curious about the 5th fore slot and if it can ONLY BE USED for the wing cannon weapon or if I can stick 5 AP DHCs in there. Also what these andorian phasers are like and why we can't get Mk XII versions...

The Blog says you can put a different weapon there.
Though if you do, you'll lose the use of most of the ship's gimmick stuff.
Pulled from the dev blog itself.. " * One fore weapon slot is occupied by Kumari Wing Cannons. This weapon can be removed and replaced by a different weapon, but it cannot be equipped on ships other an Andorian Escort. Only one may be equipped per ship at a time. "
EDIT: I'm personally probably going to try it out with all of its bells and whistles. The 3 consoles it comes with and etc, on the engie version. But thats alot of consoles. The 3 consoles just to get the deployed platform pets to use your boff abilities, plus zero point and assimilated borg console. Just really only leaves room for 1 shield % increase console and your 4 tact consoles.
It'll probably, in the end, be better to just strip the wing cannons, and use your standard ingame stuff unless the console ability attack hits as ahrd as a spinal lance from the gal-x. >_>;

There are no diminishing returns for offensive tactical consoles.

I'm thinking the same thing. And I will probably do the same, try it out with the bells and the whistles. If running threat reduction and without threat control, and with a dedicated tank WITH + threat scaling and threat control, I might even be able to stay out of trouble...

I mostly roll around in PUGs. So flying the tact version of this in my usual ESTF pugs would be the equivilant of sitting in a tub full of scissors.
Just seeing the BOFF layout on the tact version makes me think some andorian engineer was going. " Ok! So.. heres the plan... what weapons we have in the warehouses? Wow thats alot! I got an idea! Lets Squish them all together and apply a whole bunch of struts! " A bit later. " Wait... you're telling me people are supposed to live on this thing. Well.... just add a tin can with some life supports and a shield so they don't die from radiation poisoning. THATS A WRAP. TIME FOR LUNCH BREAK. "
Edit: The engineering version is perfect for STFs though.

Yes, Engie version (and actually sci version is basically interchangeable) is what I would use for a PUG, where even with threat reduction I will probably end up tanking!

If all of the stuff was stripped off and the special consoels removed, and a DHC added instead of the wing cannons. I'd actually prefer the Sci variant probably. Engie consoels as just Assimilated and Zero Point. Make all the scis % boost to shield cap.
Edit: Also, some of this might also be determined by what energy type you use with how/if the damage consoles you use, if they effect the special abilities as well. Like the Gal-X phaser spinal lance. Damage of the spinal lance boosted by phaser damage consoles.
That is, if you want to get the most out of your bells and whistles. Then again, since its console added abilities, damage consoles might not effect it. Spinal lance is a built in ability after all on the Gal-X.
People really think that a fifth +26% dmg console adds 26% to your end damage. So they will fly the tactical kumari and explode every 2 minutes. LOL! That fifth tac console only adds like 6% to your end DPS anyway!

26% or 6%. Doesn't really matter if you explode when elite cubes or elite tact cubes sneeze on you.

That fifth console adds 30% to the base just like the first four do.

I don't think twoblind was saying there was diminishing returns. He's simply saying that the difference between 5 tac consoles and 4 tac consoles is only ~6%.

You can both be right.
I guess so. At first glance, it sounded like he was referring to the 5th console only adding ~6% energy damage rather than End DPS. It's still a little confusing to me.
I just plotted damage numbers using my Mk XII AP DHC in tactical space with zero thru four antiproton mag regulators Mk XI (28.1% bonus damage per console). Here are the results:
0 AP mag regulator = 990.1 DPS
1 AP mag regulator = 1071.8 DPS, gain +81.7 DPS
2 AP mag regulator = 1153.2 DPS, gain +81.4 DPS
3 AP mag regulator = 1234.8 DPS, gain +81.6 DPS
4 AP mag regulator = 1316.3 DPS, gain +81.5 DPS
There are slight variances in DPS gain due to round-off truncations, but damage gains are otherwise constant. Based on this information, there are no visible diminishing returns with tactical consoles.
Still either way, 5th tact console slot won't matter much if the BOFF layout is setup to the point that when the Elite Cubes turn and look at you, you're pretty much boned outside of a pocket healer.

Per Bran, Today. Most likely at Noon, PST.
well hey, I gotta make myself feel better some how with all these new fed ships coming out lol.
and I am quite sure there will be more than a few inexperienced pilots out there on day 1 with the new toy they don't know how to use.
And sorry I did not bother to read the whole tread, but 5 forward weapons? lol Id like to see the power drain on that
Sweet! Can't wait to see what they do with this ship.

Its pretty much a gigantic set of guns strutted together with life support and some shields added as an after thought. :P
