T'Bust is just doing her share about the "Needs of the many outweight the needs of the few".

And most people really like the new launcher, and I think she should totally be the captain of the new Enterprise :)
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.

I am afraid i cannot agree with most of the people here.
I think the picture of a vulcan girl wearing a cleavage heavy Starfleet esque uniform and a Starfleet Phaser looks just childish and cheap. Appealing to the lowest instincts of a male teenage MMO player...
On the other hand Cryptic is doing everything in their powers to repel more mature Star Trek fans with their designs and politics since this game started, so i was not surprised to see the "handsome phaser guy" being replaced with a little girl.

(Btw. strangely, Cryptic likes to advertise with the cobra phaser, but in game this weapon is a joke...)

You're actually in agreement with a "large part" of the people posting in this thread. (I'd say majority, but it seems they gave up, or just left.)

Even the slight change in the direction she's looking in that someone made on photoshop worked wonders. At least her face then made some sense ... But no, they'll keep this abomination on the front page, add it to the launcher, ...

Guys, come on really, yes it is a page from Evony's book of advertising.... but really, I found Phaser guy just as sexist and abhorrent.

Totally unrealistic depiction of the male sex, whats worse was the threatening phallic symbolism of his Phaser. Both of them are cliched trash.

Now what I want to see to fix this problem is a New version of T'Mammery.

I want her in that skirt crawling along a jeffries tube, I want the view and angle to be as if we were behind her.

    Make it happen please :)

the last bit I was joking... but still if someone wants to make it I will have no problem looking at it :D

Let me ask you why isn't he a slightly overweight tellerite engineer? ;)

Don't try and even argue that "sexy phaser" guy as people have been calling him owns the moral high-ground here, he's just another sexist cliche.

Oh come on really... "Sexy Phaser Guy" has almost perfect chisled facial features, a wide "manly" chin, a messianic glow, shoulders so out of proportion they make T'Hooters TRIBBLE look normal and a stiff outstretched arm complete with phallic weapon.

The guy is a homoerotic wet dream of a purely fantasized sexist image of malehood based on some kind of Nietzschien superman complex.

I'm a short guy not very broad shoulders and this kind of stereotyping and sexism has created cultural memes within the female mind that discriminate against the average, not toned, not stupidly wide shoulders, not stupidly chiseled male majority. It stops me getting laid as often as I'd like :p.

If you're going to cast T'Bazookaz as a sexist image you'd be hypocrite to argue "Sexy Phaser Guy" is not.

If you really really are taking this whole sexism angle seriously then I put it to you that you should be asking for something more normal like the podgy tellerite engineer I posited as a the official face of STO.

You know one way to fix this would be to rotate the background image so we have something different to look at each day of the week. Sticking with one image for the forseeable future naturally tends to draw criticism both for lack of new eye candy and the quality of what's on offer.

And from a purely beancounter point of view, you have more chance of attracting new players if you have a variety of attractive archetypes. You could even let a logged-in user pick their preferred image when arriving at the home page (preferred because well, if there's a new image you want to show it off, right?)

    Rotate the backgrounds.
    It's a good freaking idea.

And , seriously, to the poster whose only defense against people calling T'TRIBBLE sexist is to turn around and say that Phaser Guy was sexiest.
    You make me laugh.
    Deep, belly laughs.
Your insensitivity toward women and sexist issues is staggering.
To reply to you would be useless as you seem blinded by machismo.

    Hey people. Regarding T'TRIBBLE.

    IT'S A DRAWING !
and not a particularly good one at that.
All of you acting like Beavis and Butthead being all "Huh Huh TRIBBLE" .... (1) You realize how ridiculous you sound, right ? and (2) ITS THE INTERNET ! You realize how easy it is to find pictures of real TRIBBLE , don't you ?

At the end of the day. NO, T'TRIBBLE is no worse than many other sexiest, pandering marketing ploys on the internet. That's true. I would just like to think that a game whose player base is obviously older , middle aged , Star Trek fans in a lot of cases, didn't need to use cheap, pandering, sexiest imagery to appeal to drooling teen boys, and immature man children.

    LOL

Gender stereotypes only exist for women sure....

Read my post again it's about as anti-machismo as it gets.

How you can misconstrue the short podgy dude criticizing an image for portraying the male in an unrealistic (and out of proportion, look at the size of those shoulders) way that panders to ideas Nietzschien machismo as being blinded by machismo I'll never understand.:D

    Try again.

We should have Pudo and Bem on the front-page instead, doing some scanning and stuff.

The insensitivity and machismo comes in that you are unable to simply say , Yes, the image of T'Booobs is kind of sexiest. Instead , you have to give another example , this time citing how OH the male image is also sexiest blah blah blah.

As if that fact somehow makes the objectifiying and sexist image on the front page less bad.

    It's called deflection.
    It's actually pretty common.
    and insensitive.

I never said T'TRIBBLE wasn't sexist I said that both were... your defence of Phaser Guy by creating a straw man (I.e. that I thought T'TRIBBLE wasn't sexist) is the only deflection going on here.

The truth is as your sig reveals is that you think Phaser Guy is somehow not sexist when he is the very embodiment of machismo, an over proportioned superman with perfect features, the ultimate in masculinity and superiority.

I don't sport any defence of T'TRIBBLE on my sig, because I don't defender. I see her as just a trashy Evony rip-off with grossly oversized ****.

I think we all know who is in the wrong here and it's not me.

    Deflection,
    It's pretty common,
    and insensitive.

Agreed thats why I'm not defending either T'Boob or Phaser guy both are clearly pretty awful gender stereotypes.

Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh in the above post but it grates me that people overlook the fact that society, media and the influential manipulate male form and gender as much as they do female form. We're all victims of it regardless of what genitals we have.

To be honest with you it doesn't overly bother me because I have like a cranial version of Ad-Block, it just blocks out the homogenizing bull**** that society and culture try to throw at us.

The old phaser guy was not falling over looking with an empty face at us. All that while shooting only god knows where. That's the problem.

    I hear your apology.
Sorry if I sound a bit harsh as well, but discrimination, gender stereotyping, and unasked for priviledge are both something that I care about, and am quite knowledgeable about.

    I understand your position.
    I really do.
I totally disagree with it, but I understand exactly where your line of thinking comes from in modern society.
I would actually love to discuss it, but this is not the right kind of forum to do so.

To prove that the images are not even close in their objectification and pandering sexual imagery, all you have to do (as I suggested pages ago, and spawned a funny piece of art jesmx now has as a sig) is this. Take the image of T'TRIBBLE and replace her with handsome phaser guy. Same Clothing, Same pose, same facial expression. Now take the image of Handsome Phaser Guy and replace him with T'TRIBBLE. His uniform, his pose, his expression.

I have tons more to say about gender priviledge, stereotypes, etc. But as I said, not the right place for it.

regardless, we seem to be in agreement that the current front page image is a cheap, pandering piece of sexist advertising. I can simply agree to disagree about other things.

I like this idea. I'd also suggest including Helna, the Rigelian star of Havraha's Foundry missions, within the rotation. She is someone with a back history player's can actually become familiar with.

^ This. Personally I don't care if we get phaser dude back, or a pudgy Tellarite, rotating images of in game NPCs, or a Tholian in a bikini. As long as SOMETHING is done with this horrible front page image.
