I hope they don't toss the extended universe from the books out the window when they do this.

It would be nice to have Thrawn and everything, but they better be creative with the movies.

I don't want it to be doomsday machine after doomsday machine in the new trilogy. Two Death Stars in the Original Trilogy, and at least half a dozen to a dozen different ones in the extended universe. And the Sun Crusher concept made me want to vomit when I first heard about it. It's like the Jelly Fish in 2009 Trek, only even more far-fetched.

It shouldn't be about superweapons. Come up with something creative and you could make a hugely successful film. As cool and unrealistic as a ship the size of a moon that has a laser capable of destroying several planets in fairly rapid succession, travelling to other star systems very quickly, and being built in just a few years is, there needs to be something COOL!

I think this has great potential in the new series, and I hope Disney does it right, no stupid kid adaptations. Everybody thought the Clone Wars was going to be a really kiddy show, but if you pay attention to the recent three or four seasons, there's some dark bits in there. Just don't watch the movie or the first season ._.

Unfortunately, I doubt Disney will be cancelling that stupid Star Wars Detours. It should be interesting to see how Star Wars 1313 and other dark games continue. Does Disney really want their logo on an M-Rated game? We shall see, this will decide the entire future of the franchise.

The Star Wars IP is held by the company he sold (Lucasfilm), not by George Lucas himself, personally. So, yes, in effect, he did sell the Star Wars IP.

Nuff said ... Star Wars has gone Mouse.
Huh. That's weird. I'd never figure Lucas would be the kind of guy to sell his company.

I think the main thing to take away from this though is that ILM is now also owned by Disney. That's a definite boon for Disney and any movie they make but how will that impact other studios who in the past have contracted ILM for special effects? Will Disney still contract out ILM to studios like Paramount (the guys behind the Star Trek movie licenses) or will they keep it in house?

Exactly, they did OK with Pirates of the Caribbean as well (the first couple anyway), so I say bring it on as long as George Lucas isn't directing. Man has a genius imagination and comes up with some wonderfully intricate plots, but he seems to have lost his ability to direct and get the best out of actors.

So, brainstorm everyone! Who would you get to direct the next Star Wars?

I'd go for Ron Howard or Jon Favreau.

So, were to take this as "Lets get Disney to buy Cryptic? and take S.T.O. to the max?

George Lucas never had directing ability. You want to know why ESB is considered to be the best one? It had an outside director.

I think Lucas is a great cinematographer and choreographer. He never really had the "rapport with actors" quality and his ex-wife is a lot of what made his early work better. (Killing Obi Wan, her idea. Keeping the jokes in, her call as editor. What got kept and what got lost, her call again.)

He still has the touch for choreographing thousands of soldiers and mythological action.

Money talks... I am sure Disney does not care if Paramount or CBS wants to give them $. IPs are moneymakers for them, not some sacred Bible. Disney makes PWE/Cryptic look like the United Way.

George Lucas said that he had nine episodes in the whole saga, I wonder if they will use his stuff or go all Little Mermaid on Darth Vader's TRIBBLE.

Personally, I would like to see them continue the story of the main character using the same quality of CGI as was used in TOR's trailers such as this one:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjhJcm-lpjc

By using CGI they could even get the real actors to voice the characters if they would be willing.

    Fantastic!

I think Lucas has created a wonderful universe, but he really needed to let it go. On the BBC this morning they said Disney expect to make a movie every 2 to 3 years and will continue the story of Luke Skywalker in the first movie in 2015.

    Very happy about this. :)

Good news. I think they did good job with the marvel movies, so I hope they will do the same with SW.

I think this is the best news I have heard. Finally we will get an Episode 7, 8 and 9. Maybe we will see a few spinoff movies. And maybe the TV show will finally see the light of day.

Epic news! I hope Disney doesn't mess it up. Like others have said Mark Hamil is too old to do Episode 7. So that means some other actor will have to play Luke. That alone might make Ep. 7 something akin to JJ-Trek which many fans HATE.

    Star Wars: The Musical?

Star Wars: A Really New (and very Shiny) Beginning (Directed by JJ Abrams & featuring a new Jedi, Lens Flare)

Why not? Seen the Clone Wars? Kiddie-friendly yet not too much so.

Then again, we haven't let Uwe Bohl had a crack at this. Perhaps Disney will give him the chance.

And what other major sci-fi franchise hasn't got it's heart ripped out and rebooted? Oh wait, Ridley Scott's Blade Runner II: They Live, with Mr. LaBoeuf.

I'm more concerned that they have both Pixar and ILM under the same roof. Hopefully noone will lose their jobs.

Come on guys, Mark Hamil isn't to old to play Luke. They can make this years later after Episode 6, and Mark can play an old Jedi Master Luck Skywalker. So how is it he can't play a role in the new Star Wars film that is planned. I say it can and should work.

I don't think they'll use his stuff, because he probably doesn't actually have it. I mean, he said that when he made the first movie, and he didn't decide Vader was Luke's father until a quick on set rewrite of the script. After every movie he's said, "I have the whole universe planned out now," and before the next one he always has to say, "Yeah, I'm pretty much making up half of it right on the set."

I don't think we have to worry about Disney turning Star Wars into Little Mermaid, either. Remember, the last several Marvel movies that weren't X-men or Spider-man are Disney products, and if anything they've been moving harder into PG-13. And the comics are as full of ultraviolence and misogyny as ever despite going on four years under the Disney banner.

Well..... what have the done with Pixar? Obviously Disney gets first dibs on Pixar's services but....

Yeah, if they do new SWs films like they did Avengers it'll be awesome.

I don't see any downside to this deal.

    1. Disney will give us episode 7 by 2015, more to follow shortly after that.

    2. Maybe we will see a Star Wars: The Force Unleashed TV show or Movie

    3. Disney WILL make a new TOON Star Wars show. It's a given that's going to happen.

    4. New Star Wars rides at the Disney parks.

It's win win on all sides. I for one was getting tired of the rehashing of the first few Star Wars movies. By all rights we could have gotten EP 7, 8 and 9 by now. Darn you Lucas lol.
