Server Not Responding

Yes Ihave been attempting to Play all day and I keep getting the red letters of death "Server Not Responding" then a counter. I have the highest form of internet you can get in my area and I have never had an issue like this before until today. Any clues on what is going on?

Its a known issue that some ISP Internet Backbone are having gateway issues with Cogent Communications (where the STO servers are hosted) The 'Server Not Responding' issue is not universal, as I've had no problems connecting from the Silicon Valley today, which also indicates that its not a STO server issue.

The only thing you can do is to complain to your ISP and keep asking why you can't connect to servers hosted by Cogent Communications (as its the squeaky wheel that gets the most attention)

If you claim that the patch caused the problem, then how do you explain why I have no issues??? And how do you know that its not your ISP??? You may be able to connect to other games fine, but are those games hosted on Cogent Communication network?

I am having the same problem. Makes the game really unplayable. I ran smooth no problem until September 6, 2012 patch. Been trying to figure out if its my end but everything runs smooth other than Star Trek.

OK look I am not trying to cuase a fight, but I am not the only person this issue is effecting apparently this is a large issue effecting tons of players all over. Yes you don't have the issue but since the patch on the 6th the game how pretty much skunked out on us. Thank you for your idea. I tried it and was told all my conections are fine.

If a major ISP backbone is having connection issue, it would be natural for it to effect a large number of players... Also, keep in mind that your 'normal' tech support person isn't going to have the knowledge, training, or access to the ISP control system to be able to correctly diagnose this issue. If you keep complaining, hopefully you can get this problem escalated to the proper level of support...

The idea that ISPs all started to have problems at the exact moment STO had an update that addressed "General server stability", is a little far fetched.

QFT. It's not the ISP. It's server side code that got borked during the integration to live. It happens now and again with any online game. It's something that's not easy to catch. I wouldn't be surprised if a hot fix comes down in the next couple of days that magically fixes the problem, like maybe re-integrating and overwriting a corrupted file(s).

Like I said, if patch is effecting either the Client or Server side code, then how can you explain why thousands can get onto the STO server without issue??? And saying that the patch only effected a limited number of accounts seems equally far-fetched...

So, it's purely coincidence that folks with perfect connections before the patch, now have unplayable lag after it?

    That targ don't hunt.

This appears to be the case, as I have not suffered any lag issues, as I stated earlier in this thread... And since I am using the same patch as people who are having issues. What does that tell you about the problem???

Your diagnostic work on this subject completely lacks any effort. Your conclusion is speculative. Please research your answers before claiming them to be the solution.

I am merely repeating the statements that some of the Dev's have made...

I am clean no lag thanks . After being able to play for 5-10 mins with lag like hell. Now been playing for 30 mins after force verify worked for me smooth game play.

First, the correct word is "affected," not "effected." Second, STO is a PC game, not a console game. Why do I state the obvious? Because everyone's PC is different, unlike consoles where everyone shares the same hardware. That, combined with server code that is written to compensate for the variety of different servers it must pass through and carry data, makes for hiccups like this. Not everyone will be AFFECTED, but some of the server code that used to communicate with the carrier servers on Cryptic's side got corrupted, so STO servers aren't playing nice anymore with those particular servers. It happens. It'll get fixed. Pretty simple, really. Just like a bug can AFFECT certain PC configurations differently than others.

Been on with other fleet mates and I am the only one having issues, IN GAME ONLY!!! I checked my "Internet Speed" shut everything down, checked system resources and everything is fine. Very low system memory and cpu usage with a 30mps Internet dl speed.

I am recieving constant server not responding and a disconnect from STO and there is nothing or anyone to call to find out what is going on. Is there anyone to talk to to find out if it is regional problem?

And it would seem that people don't yknow, trust you, for not operating on your own knowledge, just regurgitating stuff. At least have the decency to link to your 'I heard from the devs'.
