So, we all know that Tholian Lockboxes are gonna stop dropping on the 20th. Ok, np there.
This is probably gonna be a long post, so if you don't wanna read, better to move on.
But, it does get me to wondering, what is the next one going to be, what will it have, what won't it have, etc? So, here's my thoughts, hopes, etc on the next lockbox, including the future of the Lobi store:
1. The 'big prize' ship, ok, whatever it is, I don't really mind. I like the lockbox ships, so whatever it is, I bet it'll be good. The same also applies for any lobi-store ship (except shuttles), I don't mind what it is either.
2. New cross-faction console. We know it'll happen. The last one was great, especially for the KDF, with them getting Point Defense, which is awesome really, while Feds got Subspace Jump, also a very good console. I can only hope we have good choices once more.
3. Lesser ship prizes. I like the MU ships, because they are pretty much re-skins of ships we have, which is fine, but also nice because it's a guaranteed ship for F2Ps, who don't get an RA ship for free. So, add in a new ship or two like that, and I won't mind it.
4. The small prizes: all the random mishmash of stuff you usually tend to get. Ok, now, I know we'll have these, but I feel like it's too little sometimes. Like random deflectors or personal armors. Those really aren't worth getting, I'm not asking you to get rid of em, since I know they will have to be there, but everything needs to be worth getting is all.
5. Keep a bonus pool item. I've always liked these, and I wonder if we will get a new one from the next box, but even an old one is still good. Heck, maybe an 'all around boost', which gives a little boost to all areas would be nice (or at least skill points and Commendation xp)
6. No gold boxes still. It's good that we don't have gold Tholian boxes, and I don't miss the old golds either.
7. Less random boxes, more guaranteed stuff. This is kinda going on the small prizes again, I don't mind them, but getting random items after getting random items is rather annoying. So, just tell us exactly what we're gonna get, don't make it a gamble, within a gamble...and obvious joke there.
8. More new and unique items. Like for example, the Phased Tetryon weapons we got this time. I don't like the randomness again, but at least these are new, so they are worth getting. In the next lockbox, if again we have new items worth getting, I think we'll be good to go.
Lobi:
1. Keep the guaranteed lobi, at least 4 still, preferably more (WITHOUT increasing lobi prices).
2. I'd really like a lobi converter, as in, prizes (only if still packed, and only the smaller prizes) could be sold and made into lobi. Doesn't have to be a lot, like 1 lobi for most random stuff you get, with larger amounts for bigger prizes, like an MU ship would be worth more. This is especially godd for the old box prizes, like the Cardassian box, since it was before lobi.
Sure it means people would buy en masse the smaller prizes, but that's their choice, to either buy or sell stuff. At least it would keep the market prices interesting. Again, this goes on the fact of making all prizes worth getting, since if you get nothing you want, you can just convert it and save up a little easier.
Besides, we can do that with other prizes, like the Winter Event, that was great that all the random stuff we got, could just be tossed into a vendor for latinum, not the best thing we could want, but still good.
3. I'd really like more chances of extra lobi. Like a really nice, 'alternative' grand prize would be a huge chunk of lobi. Give it about the same chance as a lockbox ship, maybe a little more, so at least if somebody does hit it, they really have won a prize worth winning.
4. Lobi really needs to be transferable between characters. If it's bound to account on pickup, that's ok, I don't mind not being able to trade it to others, but at least let me focus it on character, so all those seperate lockbox openings are worth putting together.
Lobi store:
1. Please re-add the old lobi items. Even as a seperate vendor, and even without some of the big prizes (like the Recluse we have now, or the Photonic Tactical officer). Mostly this means like the Ferengi Marauder set. But also things like all those costume pieces, would be great to still be able to buy and get, without having to buy them from the exchange.
What'd also be really nice, is if the old items get a discount, mostly in the costume pieces at the very least.
1a. Similar idea. On the other end of the spectrum, being able to buy some of the smaller prizes from old boxes. Like the old DS9 Uniform Set, or the Holographic Combat Drone. Basically, it lets you use lobi to buy things you wanna buy. You still have to open the boxes to get lobi, but it gives you more options on what to do with it.
2. The consumables are pricy, I really wish they weren't quite so much, or at least they gave more per purchase. I mean, one lobi for a Personal Combat Module isn't very good, because it means I have to open a minimum of 5 boxes (at 4 lobi each), for a full 20 stack of those without going to the exchange.
I'm ok with not like buying a full stack, but even a 5 stack would be nice per lobi. So that would mean by opening one box, and getting my 4 lobi, I could buy a full stack of Personal Combat Modules, plus whatever I got outta the box. That, to me, is a good thing.
One single box, becomes a full stack of consumable items, which, ok, I'll use up, but at least they are good items, and worth using without having to essentially 'grind lobi' just to get a full stack.
The team items I can understand with a higher price, but it needs double the above for one stack, and while they are great, they ARE pricy, and makes me really not wanna buy em.
And that's about all I got atm. I know, this was long, so, if tl;dr...
Here's my biggest point:
All prizes need to be worth winning. It's much better from what it used to be of course, but I don't feel like it's quite all the way there yet. As long as they're willing to do that much, I don't think people will complain as much about lockboxes.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
Pretty much agree that a lot of the Tholian series features should continue in the next set.
Special Doff packs are nice, especially when they fit with the 'theme'.
And I liked that the uncommon MU ships were both a slightly modified setup and a costume unlock. I like using a MU ship on one character, but I appreciate the costume on another. This sort of dual use should continue.
Unique weapon types are also nice. I enjoyed collecting or buying them for one of my ships, but they were also useful if I happened to find a ground version i liked.
I enjoyed finding out what all the ground pets were last time around. I wouldn't be disappointed if the next series didn't have a set of pets, but I think it should continue when appropriate.
Take a look at my Foundry missions! Conjoined, Re-emergence, and . . .
Wells class my ar**. You imagine Klingons flying in that thing? It can't be a Fed ship, nor it can be a KDF ship.
If this were the case, it would most likely work like the Mirror ships. If you're on a KDF character when you get a Mirror ship, it's a Mirror Vor'cha. If the character is a Fed, you get the Mirror Assault/Star Cruiser.
So, yes, it can be a Fed or KDF ship. In fact, if it is, that encourages people to open more lockboxes on characters from both factions, so they can get both. KDF ones will also be more rare, and thus will sell for more on the exchange if I don't want them (see Mirror ship prices on the exchange); considering my main is a Gorn, this suits me just fine.
Let's not forget there was a KDF future ship too, the name escapes me but there were screenshots of it and its hull type "future" which was red body with white trim iirc. I think the name was Koroth class, not too sure.
Anyhoo I think the time ships are part of season 7 and escaped too early, the mirror ships in the last one were a secondary prize while the main prize was cross faction and I don't see those time ships being that common when they do show up in whatever way they do.
It'll probably be a ship from one of the races closer to home, maybe Reman with a 4th set bonus added to the Reman set which only works with the ship. Just a guess.
Wells class my ar**. You imagine Klingons flying in that thing? It can't be a Fed ship, nor it can be a KDF ship.
there is a leaked KDF ship so i imagine if its the lockbox than the faction decides what ship comes out of it.
i had expected the timeships to be the 1000 day rewards but there have been a few hints the lockbox is a time themed one. which could be cool.
i liked the tholian box a lot. i think something very similar would be fine. i really want to see the temporal agent uniform that was in relativity and to a lesser extend the one that daniels wore in enterprise.
Dstahl: Only "time" will tell what the next Lock Box is....
Sounds pretty obvious. I like this, though I guess the Wells would be a science ship too? The Tholian prize ship already was a sci ship. I wouldn't mind an affordable new lockbox escort since the bugship is pretty much unobtainable below 400 million EC.
Well, I guess that leaves the question of the 1000 day veteran reward 100% open again....

Lock boxes are Fek'lhr-spawn and have to be exterminated.
FKA K-Tar, grumpy Klingon/El-Aurian hybrid. Now assimilated by PWE.
Sometimes, if you want to bury the hatchet with a Klingon, it has to be in his skull. - Captain K'Tar of the USS Danu about J'mpok.
One interesting idea I had would be that we'd get another hybrid weapon type, this one incorporating projectile buffs.
1.
Probably a Chronokinetic Torpedo (based on "Shattered") with a Photon/Chroniton hybrid. (Photon stats with Chroniton proc at the cost of a weapon mod.)
2.
Maybe also have Chroniton Flux beam weapons (based on the one used to close the wormhole) that borrow some of their canon shield pen as a form of transphasic hybrid:
2.5% Chance: Significantly reduces movement speed for 10 sec.
3% Bonus Shield Penetration (and a passive DPS boost)
3.
Might be an excuse to have anachronistic melee weapons ported over from CO and Neverwinter.
In terms of ships... It will be more than the Wells and Korath.
Probably Aeon and Berlinghoff Rasmussen's timepod.
Can't figure out what the counterpart to Mirror Ships here would be. Maybe a "Yesterday's Enterprise" themed ship variant or two. Thinking a Galaxy War Timeline Assault Cruiser and a QulDun War Timeline Retrofit?
...
Or maybe taking a page from the Battle of Procyon V, 26th century Prometheus and Vor'cha? The Vor'cha would be for Klingons and come in optional futuristic Fed colors (representing the KDF from Procyon as Fed members) and the Prometheus would do much the same.
The 26th Century Advanced Escort would come with Engineering focused BO loadout (completing the trinity with the other Prommies) and the 26th century Vor'cha would be a Science themed cruiser?
2. New cross-faction console. We know it'll happen. The last one was great, especially for the KDF, with them getting Point Defense, which is awesome really
Well I'd like to see how you play since you seem to like this console. It's one of the worst and most useless console in game. It's a pure rip-off to even spend one key on it. Actually, it's just a childish toy making light once every 2 minutes.
I hope the next lockbox console will be a fair trade for both factions. It would be sad if the KDF gets again a lame FED one.
For weapons, I bet on a phased polaron, but a polarized tetryon or disruptor wouldn't bother me. But we got a hint: the timeships are equiped with antiproton.

Well, I have read those threads about Feds possibly getting Plasmonic Leech, if that's true, it's only fair KDF gets AMS. Though I am honestly curious what the console will actually be for both sides, there's only so many choices. I will say, getting the Quad cannon from the other faction would be what I want.
As for the ships, eh...ok, time ships, don't really care. I have a hunch they will be sci-based (which honestly, the KDF could use some more pure sci ships), but regardless, I doubt unless there's something REALLY nice, I probably won't use it.
About Point Defense, I use it on my tacticals, both my Fed and KDF. My Fed uses it in the Armitage along with the torpedo console. And my KDF tac, uses it in the Bortasqu tactical cruiser. YES, I know, tac in a cruiser, blah blah blah.
That aside, PDS, for both of them, usually does about 800 damage a shot (for a total of 32k damage, to put a number to it), while I'm just flying around shooting normally. But popping all my tactical buffs, especially Go Down Fighting at medium or low health, makes it go much much higher, a number I won't give, because I can't remember atm, but it's much higher.
PDS isn't so hot for PvP, too many targets, so the damage is split up, but against a single target, it can rip through it (along with all your other stuff firing) like nobody's business.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.

the point defence is an awesome console. you have to be 5K away and it helps to be specd in the right energy type but it decimates frigates and small crafts.
I stated in another thread that I assumed they were Lockbox ships. But I also think we've gotten used to the idea of having multiple ship types from Lockboxes, so a choice of Wells or Korath seems light compared to the Tholian choices.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Considering the fact that an elite frigate lasts roughly 2 seconds with my raptor, I do believe that this console is a toy for children.

Hopefully these will be the top-reward for the lockboxes, but the lobi store should change (hopefully too) and provide some other new rewards, including a 800 lobi ship.
Really..... After they come and make Tholian Lockboxes kind of awesome... they put the Wells class in a box? F$%# dah time-travel Police, and whoever came up with this Idea.
Considering the fact that an elite frigate lasts roughly 2 seconds with my raptor, I do believe that this console is a toy for children.
So does my Bortasqu tactical cruiser. Those puny probes aren't even worth firing my Isometric Charge at (except if in a gravity well of course).
But here comes Mr. Gateway, he's not as easy to kill. Same with Mr. Tactical Cube. I can really ruin their day with all my stuff firing out of my ship all at once, especially Mr. Gateway at point-blank range.
Yes, I do call them Mr. Gateway and Mr. Tactical Cube when I'm playing. :P
And the console is a 'toy' for 'children', hahaha, good one, I wonder if you have the secondary meaning that I think you have.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.

Its defintely time travel. I just read the Q&A and stahl said in answer to the next lockbox question. "only "time" will tell ..... "
On the point defense sytem it is fantastic when you are fighting multiple ships. I equip it with the torpedo defense and **** blows up. This is only pve. But it is far more than a "flash of light"
Also, the PDS is blind to cloaks, so you can track cloaked ships in range. And it's 360?. And stuff liek those annoying things in Operation Gamma just go boom, and ultimately it'S made for spam clearing, so...
actually the Aeon class time shuttle seems more probable.. and definately would look better than the featureless boxes of the shuttlepod and rasmussen's timeship.
alternately, they could include the Ablative armor generator equipped shuttle Janeway used in Endgame.. it would have been deployed in the STO timeframe in that old timeline, and could easily be a fairly new type in the STO timeline. given that the game already has the armor equipped Intrepid, a shuttle using that console would be interesting.
oh, and Korath was a klingon weapons creator who invented the Temporal Deflector that let janeway timetravel... the ships he sent after janeway were just Negh'Var class warships, with no apparent new technology.
on the other hand, the Negh'var class seen in TNG: All Good Things... was able to fire while cloaked, and that alternate reality was around 2395. you see the USS Pasteur hit by weapons fire and disabled before the klingon ships decloak.
not to mention that a timetravel themed pack could also be a vector for adding more "historical" options, like the Ambassador class, TOS romulan warbirds, more TOS badge options (taken from other ships of the time, which had emblems other than the arrowhead), and so on.

As long as they keep the tholian stuff in the lobi store, Im fine. Some of us are still slowly saving/gathering for a Recluse. What does PWE care what we buy or win as long as we're spending on keys?
As the topic suggests - what do you think the next lock box ship will be? We all know it's not an "if", but a "when" question, so what are the suggestions?
As for myself, I don't believe in a "Romulan lock box". Simply because there will be a playable Romulan subfaction, so why on Earth would Cryptic put a potential racial ship to a lock box? Makes no sence for me. Reman, may be... ?
IMHO, there will be no Borg lock box either. Playing a Cube would be fun but... unpractical due to its size and therefor unrealistic. Would you like to team up with someone whose ship is blocking you the whole screen? And think about STF... "Fire at Cube!... Wrong Cube, dude!.." There might be an assimilated lock box tho, with some kind of assimilated ship, like the Cure Carrier or Donatra's scimitar.
There will be no Undine lock box as well, I suppose. I don't see the possibility to settle them in the main story. Bioships flying around with fed/klink weapons and other technologies? Kinda unlikely.
I'd also say a "no" to a timeship lockbox. This "time will show" quote doesn't necessaryly indicate a time based box incoming. And, remember, the boxes are not klink or fed only. Crossfaction consoles are ok, but crossfaction ships? I can't imagine a klingon flying a Wells class. Can you? Unless the Cryptic is gonna make some faction specific drop tables. Sounds like too much effort for a single box.
Personally I'd vote for either Andorian box with the long promised Kumari, or for a Cardassian relaunch with Galor in the box itself and jem bug in the lobi store.

That means the next Lockbox theme will be timetravel based.
Things coming to mind fitting the theme:
29th century uniform and ground weapons
Time Agent doff
Relativity class shuttle (pet)
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
1) Teamwork and timing is #1
2) You cannot "Kirk It" in every ship
3) You are going to die, just get back up

no idea why, but looking at it, they could (could) benefit from the jemhadar set (they were aligned with the dominion)
And they could have the sar theln carrier as a lobi ship
Built in abilities could be sci related and offer a science-cannon ship (polaron cannon)
(btw if they did rerun the re run the galor i genuinely can not see them having bug ship in lobi.. , maybe the cardi fighter ship)
I would horror to the idea of the 'villans' lockbox (e.g. we should NEVER see a borg/undine/iconian lockbox)
(i mean they were one of the first species to join the federation right? O_O')
