Latest Copy of the Star Trek Online Launcher

Hi there. I've seen a lot of people having problems launching the game due to a Cryptic Autoupdater problem with the launcher. For some people replacing thier current launcher with a working copy of the latest worked to get them out of the Autoupdate problem. This may be a solution.

This is the latest version of the launcher as of Jan 3. Current version is 2012.12.21.319
Old version is 2012.12.20.650.

~EDITED -- See closing post on the last page~

Simply download either the 4mb 7zip file and extract to your ST Online directory or download the 9.4 mb uncompressed file and copy to your ST Online directory.

If you don't know where the directory is but use a desktop shortcut, right click on the shortcut and select "open file location" to go to the directory.

You can get the version number by going to the launcher file in the Star Trek Online directory and right clicking. Select properties and click on the details tab. It will tell the file version. Alternatively on Vista, you can hover the mouse on the file and a pop up will show the file version as well.

Hopefully this will fix your autoupdate problem.

Another thing you can try is renaming the .patch directory in the Star Trek Online/Live directory to something else like "old .patch".

That directory contains all the patch data for the launcher. Removing it worked for some people, but i prefer to rename so i can easily restore things back to before i was fooling around.

This actually worked for me as well after a crash resulted in the launcher coming up but being stuck in the patching... part without it ever patching.

Another option posted by Raith

I went into my PWE account and reset the Browser Safeguard and Computer Safeguard part of the Account Safeguard (Delete the computer the client is registered for and get it to send you a new email-code etc), figuring that that's probably whats causing the issue as it hasn't updated to an IP change or something.

Anyways, its worked for me and now I can log on normally once again.

One last thing you can do is change your IP if you are using a dynamic IP.

The easiest way to change your IP is to turn off your modem and router for around 5-10 minutes.

To check if your IP changed first go to the website What is my IP.

Then turn off the modem and router if any.

Note that the modem and router must be turned off as in no power to the items. Simply flicking the on/off switch works for most modems but routers usually have to be unplugged. There should be no lights showing on both items.

Wait 5-10 minutes and turn everything back on.

Then check the site again to see if your IP changed. If not try it again as sometimes you get the same IP address.

If it changed try STO and see if it can update.

If this fails, the other thing to try is to turn off your modem and routers for around 8 hours then turn them on again and check to see it the IP changed.

If you do download the files, please post to say if it worked or not. I'd like to know.

Final note: If this works, make a new folder called Latest launcher and copy both the launcher and the .patch directory into it. This way if the problem hits you again you can easily do the workaround again.

In the past week I had this problem hit me three times. The first 2 times it fixed itself after trying to run the game a few times. The third time I lost a day and had to go onto the net and the forums to gather data to resolve my problem. This is the result.

If anyone else had the Autoupdate problem and were able to resolve it please drop a post as I'd like to see if we can consolidate all the potential workarounds into a single post so people won't have to keep making new threads on the same issue.

Thanks in advance.

This is the latest version of the launcher as of Sept 6

Updated Star Trek Launcher in 7zip format. 3mb

Updated Star Trek Launcher actual file. 9mb

Simply download either the 3mb 7zip file and extract to your ST Online directory or download the 9 mb uncompressed file and copy to your ST Online directory.

i need some assistance with the security features of my windows xp sp3. I re-installed STO and the launcher is not updating and i cannot access the game at all. i believe it may have to do with my internet securities as my firewall is ordered to accept STO. i cannot even contact perfectworld support to assist. for a few days now i have been trying to seek answers online and use my knowledge to bypass and still no luck. i even turned off my firewall temporarily and still no luck any well worded advice would be greatly appreciated ty

    are you behind a router?

if so, you may need to open your ports for sto,
check http://portforward.com/cports.htm to which ports u need to open :)

    hope that helps

I tried that suggestion as you recommended for my router i went from dynamic to static internet and included the ports, i also included into the trusted sites the addressing and ports and still have issues. dunno what else to do or configure?

Thanks for the suggestions but replacing the launcher did not work for me. And renaming .patch folder also did nothing for me.

And I can't turn off my modem it has a battery backup. Due to the fact I have phone service bundled with my internet and cable tv, and both the phone and internet go through the same modem. And turning it off long enough for the battery backup to drain would take out my phone service till I plugged it back in.

I did add the ports to the router and as far as I can tell it did nothing as well.

I think this may have worked for me. After replacing the launcher with this new one and doing a force verify I saw it actually throwing up files names in the patch window where previously it just said patching for a min. Now I've logged on and am currently taking a tour through zones testing my connection. Looks good so far.

Edit: no, as soon as i zoned to a busy location (DS9) the lag and server disconnected message reared their ugly heads again. For a min there i thought i was good to go.

How do you do a force verify?

Edit: Found it but it seems to do nothing for me either. I click Force verify click ok, and then login and it proceeds to patch. So that doesn't fix my problem either.

    Greetings everyone.

I'm having the same problem. I'd like to download the launcher, but my computer won't allow me to use rapidshare or Mediafire.

I would like to play the game, so it would be extremey appreicated if someone could upload the current launcher to another site, such as upurload.com.

    Thanks.

Hi all. Due to issues I had no internet for the last month so missed a couple of updates and a PM.

I'll be resolving the request to upload to upurload as an alternate site to download and updating the first post to reflect the most recent update.

Sorry about that and hope this works for all those with update problems.

I too would like to offer my thanks for the files. I decided to give this game a try for the first time and just finished downloading only to get the patching error. Probably not the best first impression, but I am glad someone was able to help.

The last time this happened your download worked for me. This time though it did not. neither did anything else in your OP. I guess cryptic has no desire to keep me as a customer. I am getting really tired of jumping thru hopes to play their game.

Been out of tricks for the last 2 day, tried everything you said, no luck, thanks for the help all the same..

I realized that my last post left nothing to go on so here goes.....

3 or 4 months ago random problems with the launcher started. most times i could defeat this by just opening up several launcher windows and while most would fail, when you start to type in your password, some would let you type in your password and then fail when you when you clicked on engage. if you opened enough windows eventually one would work and you'd be good to go. Many times it was just a matter of typing in fast before the launcher had time to crash and then when it got to the engage button it was just a 50-50 shot as to if it would connect.

Lately i can open 50 launcher windows and i dont even get to the first letter before it crashes.

I have been on once in the past 3 days and when i got in the game i was in for 10 minutes before the game itself crashed.

A few other things i have learned, running any program in the background will cause it to fail more often, those programs include IE, google chrome, or teamspeak. I use to be able to get on TeamSpeak after STO was up and running but sometimes pressing the windows button on the keyboard also causes STO to close up.

To date i have tried to get a NEW IP, i have tried to download every version of the Cryptic Launcher i can find and I have tried to reload STO.

i dont mind paying 10 dollars everyother month or so in fact i enjoy spending a bit of money on a game when i have it to spare but any sane person has to question what kind of product they are paying for when the hassles just seem to be getting worse.

Ok tried again today for another 50 tries, i then went to an older computer windows xp and i had no problems running sto on that computer, problem is the graphics such, so i just stried again on my main computer windows 7 for another 50 tries and nothing. I tried running the program on all program mode and as an admin. but still nothing.

So is it just window 7? or just gatewaycomputer windows 7? or just this damn computer?

This is a joke... tried the launcher in the OP but it still doesn't work. It seems this is a long running problem for people, why hasn't it been fixed?

Will someone upload the newest launcher please?

Sorry about the delay. If you tried the launcher and it didn't work try doing so again with this patch. It's updated to the 22nd patch of the launcher. That may by the cause of the launcher not working for you.

Ok still stuck and from what i can tell it still seems to be windows 7 only that is having the launcher problems.

I am aback to a 1 in 50 chance on getting connected but i have learned that if i slow down my typing, and put in the letters 1 mississippi at a time i have a better chance of getting through entering my password and to the actual ENGAGE button before the launcher crashes. Like i said its not a solution but at least its progress.
