Thanks for the writeup! Welcome aboard Steven Ekholm, happy to hear the talent from 38 studios is not going to waste.
The perspective about the lobi catch-22 was almost as interesting as the skant revelation.
I find it hard to buy into the constant ship visual updates though. Some ships have gone without basic improvements, like a main light over the registry/name for years. Its clear there is either no time, or not enough will to assure quality (adding a light to the Tactical Escort for example hardly sacrifices performance when it is present on other ships).
Its hopeful to hear that ship caps (among others) are still open to change. Limiting people who want to spend money is bad business.
So people are earning as much Dilithium as is 'needed'? Thats a really interesting thing to hear. So for all the commentary about people turning away from the 'grind', it seems people are actually... playing the game (for dilithium) as much as is 'needed'.
Laugh of the day: "Dstahl: Tholians will start showing up when the Starbase you are defending is big enough to draw their interest."
Q: (k4pt41nk4ng4r00) Why isn?t the Excalibur/Vesper/Exeter in the Fleet Store?
Dstahl: As we prepared to release Season 6, we were looking at what ships to make available in the Fleet Store. The designers settled on 40 ships, divided between FED/KDF, which gave a variety of options at Season 6 launch. Our intention is to continue to add more in future Seasons and updates.
That's a cop-out, Mr Stahl, and you know it... You could've just as easily skipped the T2 Saber, or the T2 Nova, and added the T2 Excalibur instead. The simple truth of it is; You didn't want people running around at max level with a T5+ "Constitution" look-a-like.
The statement concerning the growing KDF is not realistic.
Cryptic has done nothing to make the faction appealing to the playerbase or promote playing it.
To create an influx of new players into the KDF the Devs have to invest serious time and resources into promoting the faction.

To make it even more of a cop out is this statement "Another consideration was whether or not the ship had a T5 C-Store version."
As none of the KDF fleet ships have T5 C-store versions, that obviously wasn't that big of a thing to consider. This was the entire point of lordmalak1's question later, which he managed not to answer. Many Feds get a discount due to many of their fleet ships having C-store variants that qualify. The KDF has no such fleet ships qualifying for such a discount.

Dstahl: We?re happy to announce that we are working with Mark Rademaker to get the Vesta class ship into STO. We'll talk more about the Vesta closer to its release date.
how??
HOW is that an update ?! we KNEW that already !
we've known that for absolutely ages now , both from information on the forums and on rademakers blog
Yea what a joke divided fairly between the fed and kdf rofl. Nice little cop out too on why the KDF doesn't get a fleet module discount... We must have something written on our foreheads to make him believe that we are that gullible.
The statement concerning the growing KDF is not realistic.
Cryptic has done nothing to make the faction appealing to the playerbase or promote playing it.
To create an influx of new players into the KDF the Devs have to invest serious time and resources into promoting the faction.
You just nailed down the problem and, I think, what the problem at Cryptic has been up through the "Dead Targ" comment.
Cryptic devs prefer playing KDF on the whole. I think they always thought that it would take serious time and resources, serious time and resources that they didn't have.
Since then, they discovered that factions may not be WORTH serious time and resources. Oh, definitely in a qualitative sense but not from a profitability standpoint.
Would investing more time and resources into the KDF yield more money? Almost certainly. Would it yield more money than investing those time and resources elsewhere? I'm deeply skeptical.
If anything, the problem is what it's always been:
Either they need factions to be something that require less time and resources than the Feds got at launch... Or they need to do away with the idea of factions.
Because generating "more" money isn't the same as generating the "most" money. Cryptic didn't have any speculative stockholders to answer to when it started development; it did under Atari and it has very serious stockholders under PWE. When you have stockholders like that, what generates "more" money or "feels right" is going to lose out to what generates "the most money" or "looks right on the balance sheet."
Boff exchange?
Adding all currency to missions still needs to happen with all the currencies replaced with real money ones
I feel as if the the player base needs an advocate, because the obvious issues are not getting changed, it the process has been signifigantly TRIBBLE since PWE has become involved.
In related good news, we are happy to welcome Senior Character Artist Steven Ekholm to STO, who is joining our team from 38 Studios. His talents will be put to great use adding new customization options to STO characters in future updates.
yippee!! Maybe STO will start to get the same type of love with new costumes as Champions Online gets
The reason why Lobi crystals themselves cannot be traded between characters is because we offer all characters a chance to earn free Lobi and it would lead to an exploit.
Really? I know of 1 mission, and it gives 1 Lobi, and is not repeatable. If you are willing to make 800 characters to exploit the Lobi mission to get a carrier, you may want to re-evaluate your priorities. Maybe I'm missing these other chances for Free Lobi but, 1 Lobi is all but worthless with the current prices. If that is the only Free Lobi chance I would gladly give it up in exchange for it being account bound.

I'm surprised he actually answered the question but the result was the set of well-rehearsed talking points we all expected.
Jack Emmert: "Starfleet and Klingon. ... So two factions, full PvE content." Al Rivera hates Klingons Star Trek Online: Agents of Jack Emmert All cloaks should be canon.
If we were to introduce a new faction, we would most likely start with the Romulans.
you make it sound less and less probable every time someone asks about the romulans
Q: (tobar26th) Any news on ?Into the Hive??
Dstahl: We had our first playtest last week. It is pretty awesome fighting the Borg Queen, but there were several elements leading up to the boss room that need some more work.
i'll believe that when I see it. we heard the same comment about a certain FE a year before it was even started
HOW is that an update ?! we KNEW that already !
we've known that for absolutely ages now , both from information on the forums and on rademakers blog
jesus
Actually, we didn't know that for ages. Prior to this statement the only things which have been officially stated was that Cryptic was still in talks with Mark to workout the license agreement.
CBS gave the approval many months ago, but it took this long for Cryptic and Mark to come to an agreement as to how much Mark would get paid.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Are the devs aware mines in the fleet store have the DMGx3 bonus which does not work with mines? This makes fleet mines rather useless compared to any other mine. That?s a question I would have liked to have asked. Some types of mines like Transphasic are missing from the fleet store as well is there a reason behind that?
Great changes to mines I love the new mine changes.
Where are these mythical free lobi crystals? I have earned one from the TRIBBLE lock box and nothing more. The episode replay thing you did does not count as your statement leads us to believe there are still ways to repeatedly earn lobi crystals.

Well, as much as I hate to admit it, the reply saying they are discussing either a different ruleset or releasing more T5 KDF ships is encouraging. It also reminds me of how flexible (and more expensive) a T5 KDF ship is going to be: A fleet K'Tinga@2000 (4 refit modules) zen plus a bio-neutral warhead off the 1000 zen Q'orgh refit c-store ship, or the subspace-jump console from the 1500 zen Ch'Tang.
Imagine the Fleet K'Tinga having BOTH consoles (evil grin), plus the lockbox point defense console.

just frustrating thats all
Season 7 worries me, as no Star Trek has ever made it to a Season 8
Hopefully STO can change that
I'm just hoping Season 7 makes it out before December 21st...

You can also get them when they rerun the featured episodes. The point he is making here is that by making them account wide Cryptic effectively have to lock us out of ever earning free Lobi on existing or future content.
And yes, believe me when I say people will create hundreds of alts to make this happen. For some players who don't have a lot of cash lying around, this would be the only way they can ever get the 800 Lobi reward.

Yes, there is the sole Engineer...we were supposed to get a male and female from Science, Tactical, and Engineering. Six total.
Here is the THREAD to catch you up on it. There are summary posts HERE and HERE.
