Got a Fleet Avenger Class ship. It's the U.S.S. Cloud Strife. Named it after the main character of FFVII. Google it. It was, and still is, a fantastic game that sucks you.

For my Fed Eng, my Vesta is called the U.S.S. Hubble to honor his accomplishments to advance astronomy. My Fed Sci, it is called the U.S.S. Brahmagupta after the first person to recognize ZERO as a number and not just an order of magnitude i.e. 100, 1,000, 10,000, etc.
So, I just push the buttons and things blow up? Fascinating...

In game I've seen hundreds if not thosends of ship names and most of them are unique. This made me curious to see if these names were chosen for a reason or just because it sounded cool.

    What's yours called and why?

My current ship is called Force Beguiled. I REALLY don't like Star Wars (for so many reasons...). When I was younger I would pick on my non-trek friends by saying "may the force beguile you." They thought it was a compliment until I explained it to them.

I also have issues with PWE, as many of us have been disillusioned since the acquisition (okay, and the year before). So, in my own way, Force Beguiled is my middle finger to all of it.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.

I decided to get Dyson Science Destroyers for each of my 3 factions mains:

Fed - USS Charles Townes - named for the still-living, 98-year-old, Nobel-winning physicist from my hometown. He is sometimes referred to as the Father of the Laser, since his prize-winning work directly led to the creation of both the maser and the laser. The city has a bronze statue in his honor. Somehow a science starship with beam weaponry seemed appropriate.

KDF - IKS Sov 'etlh. Translation: "Blade of Knowledge". I wanted something that invoked the role of science as a weapon in a warrior society.

Romulan (Fed) - RRW Lioraen Shianev. Translation: "Light Spear", meaning "Laser". Rihan dictionaries available online are limited in their vocabulary, so I did what most languages do: take two words to describe a third concept. "Laser" is, of course, a reference back to Dr. Townes.

Nine toons, most with multiple ships but the ones currently in use:

Federation science Yir: Vesta Class USS Verona after the town in Italy
Federation engineer Veohcho: Odyssey Class USS Kleist after the German poet
Federation tactical Thil: Defiant Class USS Bernicia after the ancient British kingdom
KDF science R'Kirlg: Korath Class IKR Zogozin after the Gorn ambassador
Romulan science Kunius: Daeinos Class RRW Daami after the ship lost to the Federation

Never came up with good names for the KDF engie, tac, or Rom engie, tac, so they've just got the names the ships came with.

Oooo...a word I've not used since high school grammar. Had to refresh my memory on the definition, and that's rare. Good job! :D

created a new toon the other day on kdf side the name i gave the ship is; "I.K.S. Darth Baras" - Reason: poking fun at Baras' size and the sith code, "Cake is a lie, there is only pie, through pie i gain calories, through calories i gain weight, through weight i gain fat, through fat my belt is broken."

Bought the Corsair flight deck cruiser for my Feresan sci officer.

Noticed it looked like a big dog's head. So I named it the I.K.S. R'uh R'oh. It will carry the voth fighter David Lee Voth.

Despite his girth, I always like the villany that was Darth Baras. I don't know the voice actor, but I always thought if SWTOR had been filmed in the 80s, David Ogden Stiers would be perfect for the role.

    off-topic for this one reply.

Out of the that bunch Baras was probably the best, he had a clear defined path and purpose but he was no fool when he realized when a threat was emerging. hes not like most of these sith though, for example Thana Vesh types, charging straight into the fght and not having the first idea except having the dark side to protect themselves.

on a quick glance, Jim McCance did his voice role.

My newest toon, Morgana Davis, names her ships for their class. She just graduated from the Sabre-class USS Katana to the Akira-class USS Tetsuo.

    KANEDAAAAA!!!!

    TETSUOOOO!!!!

anywho. My Fleet Avenger has taken on the name U.S.S. Taipan, because I recently molded my alien captain to resemble a cardassian. My Chimera is called the Nergal, because Papa Nergal loves everyone, and death comes for everyone. The new Dyson ship on my romulan science is called the Kaishaasi, because it focuses on wells and tractor beams and all sorts of assorted fun (Kaishaasi means Dominator)
Sardak (Science Officer): Captain of a 23k DPS R'Mor Temporal Science Vessel, R.R.W. Vathos
Odan Brota (Science Officer): Captain of a 28k DPS Scryer Intel Science Vessel, U.S.S. Kepler

I name mine after the gods of old. My centaur was named the U.S.S. Athena, my Excalibur class was the U.S.S. Hera, my Akira is the U.S.S. Isis, and my Excelsior is the U.S.S. Osiris.

All my characters have "Gon" in the name somewhere. Not sure when it started, but its become a tradition in games you have to pick a name... Anyway my Romulan Tel'Gona now flies "Gon's Wrath", and has a tendency to yell out "Prepare to taste Gon's Wrath" whenever charging into battle. But then she is very small, so she needs to compensate somehow.

My Klingon put me in mind of the Kilrathi from Wing Commander, and all his ships have Sivar (Kilrathi God of War) in the title "Wrath of Sivar", "Scourge of Sivar", along with "Pride/Glory/Blade of Sivar".

Shortly before starting the game shortly after it went free-to-play, I re-watched Space: Above and Beyond, and thus my Federation characters ship was therefore destined to be the Saratoga (A through F so far). I forgot that was Sisko's ship at Wolf 359 (Which made the mission where you go back in time, and onto The Saratoga confusing at first, when your Bridge Officer exclaims "We're on the Saratoga").

Finally, I've just made a new account, and its sole character thus far is a Ferengi - Partly because I've always liked them, but also to use the free Ferengi shuttle we get for using ARC (Now named U.S.S. Thermidor, due to its lobster-esque appearance). He'll be using money based names, so is currently in the Fortune's of War and will claim as a Rear Admiral the Price of Victory.

When I made Vice-Admiral my fleet gave me a Mirror Assault Cruiser, a mostly-Emissary-class named after my Intrepidesque Andromeda. I like to think the ISS Andromeda is the equivalent of the prime universe's USS Andromeda.

My Federation star ship is the "U.S.S Adventuress"

It's named after a historic gaff schooner (currently in restoration) which was first launched in 1913 and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1989. It is now sailed through the Non-profit Sound Experience to educate, inspire, and empower.
It's seemed like a nice name for a star ship ;)

I've mentioned a few times already here that I have a naming convention for my ships concerning Northern Ontario communities, specifically those in my hometown, the Sudbury area.

Currently, I'm in the U.S.S. Walden. I so named it because as an Olympic-class ship, they have a reputation as being a medical transport, a sort of hospital ship, and Walden's primary community, Lively, is a center in my region for health care, especially for the elderly. Our local animal hospital is also in that community.

Should I ever get more ships than Sudbury communities, I can expand to the rest of the region. There are plenty of interesting names of varying ethnic and cultural backgrounds to choose from. My very first ship was the U.S.S. Moose Factory, named for a Native American fur trading outpost on Hudson Bay. I'm also considering the U.S.S. Hornepayne, U.S.S. Kenora, U.S.S. Temagami, and the U.S.S. Sault Ste. Marie.

I am unsure how to change the names of the Runabouts but if it's possible, I want to continue the river theme with rivers of Northern Ontario. U.S.S. Missinabi and U.S.S. Attawapiskat could be pretty good names to go with.

I have a number of ships and characters but

My fed character's ship follows the federation pattern of old naval ship names and is the ship my grandfather served on in WWII. Ulvert Moore destroyer escort class, his commanding officer was the president's son. It is the fleet chimera in game.

My others do not really compete with that ^^^^ but I am proud of rolling 3 concepts into one for my orion pirate babe in her karfi carrier. Its he lobstarr --- looks like a lobster, is a spaceship so "star", and she is a pirate so it gets the 'arr' on the end.

I won't burden you guys with the other bad puns..

My newest ship (a Montgomery-class Dyson ship) is called the U.S.S. Athena. I named her that for two reasons. First Athena, in Greek mythology was the goddess of both wisdom and warfare which I thought exemplified the dual nature of a science destroyer. Second, when coming up a backstory for the ship and her crew, I decided that the ship had a sentient, hybrid personality with an android bridge officer who is also named Athena.

My main's ship (Odyssey Class) is the U.S.S. Cavalier. I wanted a majestic sounding name and one that sounded "knightly" since I'm such a fan of knights/paladins in games, but "U.S.S. Paladin" just didn't sound right to me.

My primary alt's ship (Defiant Class) is the U.S.S. Viking. I'm from Minnesota and am a Vikes fan. :D

Does it have constant oil leaks and brake problems? And do the specs say Warp 9 but really come up to Warp-I-Might-As-Well-Have-Taken-The-Bus?
