Dunno if this is a problem other folks have had or not, but for some time now every time I enter the Memory Alpha ground area, there's a spot that routinely crashes my game completely. Happens pretty reliably when I enter the second hallway from the transporter room (i.e. the first hallway is right outside the transporter area you start at, the second hallway is right after that hallway and has the door to the central area). It happens with great consistency, with different alts, and has no obvious link with any actions I'm taking. I can reboot the game and walk through the area without any problem each time. It's obviously not crippling, but having to reload STO every time I want to craft something is getting obnoxious . Anybody had any similar issues who has suggestions? My computer is pretty powerful overall, so I don't see how it could be some kind of system overstress (3.33GHZ 6 core processor, nVidia GTX580 video card for the record).
Happens to me pretty much every time i go to Memory Alpha. Game CTD's, I reload in the spot i crashed and carry on as normal. It was annoying but I could live with it.
Now though I crash to desktop randomly when changing session, beaming up/down, warping into an area etc. It's just like the good old days back in the first six months after release where every button press was like playing Dabo against a rigged wheel against Quark. Only not as fun as that sounds.
Yes the same thing happens to me every time that I enter Memory Alpha. I sent the crash report thing that pops up when the game crashes, hopefully they fix this soon. It's pretty annoying. I try to go another route when i get there and it works but the usual route to the crafting area is the shortest and I sometimes forget and walk into the crash.
I crash in Memory Alpha a lot, but also less frequently on other away missions and flying inside certain systems (e.g., Lackey), or when resizing the game window. The Memory Alpha crashes improved when I lowered the video settings slider to the lowest settings and turned on half resolution. If I don't lower the settings, I get < 0.1 FPS and it takes a minute or so for even the beam out button to register being clicked. Performance elsewhere in the game is smooth at much higher settings. These may all be separate bugs for all I know, or they may all be related.
I'm using the unofficial Mac wrapper, which surely muddies the waters; if I had a Windows installation aside from Parallels, I'd use it.
The crashes have made some missions unplayable to the point of game reload time far exceeding my actual gameplay time, which tends to be when I call it quits.
I had the tutorial mission on two different characters. I was able to enter the zone (orbit only) for Memory alpha. The minute I tried to beam to the surface to finish the quest, the game crashed. Now every time I try to login to that character, it crashes my game.
I made another character and had the exact same issue. I have made yet another character and will not attempt to beam down for fear of losing that character as well.
Please help.
P.S. I have submitted an in=game ticket as well, but have heard nothing and really don't expect to.
EDIT: I have loaded STO to my new laptop running Win8. I can access the "stuck" character and move around in MA just fine on it. After logging out of the game there, I came back to my desktop system (running Win7, NV GF gtx 560 1Mb) and still crash when I try to access this character. Again, any input or suggestions on some video setting I need to manipulate is GREATLY appreciated.
