vester, when you are in the ship interior, the game simply cannot modify the ship's location in anyway. To get the Bridge Commander-style gameplay you're after requires a fundamental rewrite to separate ground toons and ships (which right now are just two different overlays onto what is essentially the same character).
In other words, when you are in a space map, YOU are physically the ship.
There's nothing you can do about it here, vester. Start a new thread for your idea.
Actually, I posted a thread that could solve the problems getting in the way of adding a "fly from bridge view" option. Link It's not actually impossible if you know the right workarounds.

As true as or not as that may be, that is not what this thread is about.
Going back to the original topic, I'm working on something to show how ladder and Jefferies Tube movement could work.

I can understand you leaning on what has been said but I also think it's preventing you from making a fair evaluation.
It might also be me not explaining it properly, it's of course easy for me to understand since I know what I mean heheh.
Anyway, you keep holding on to the ship having to move, let go of that.
Now you are on your bridge spawned on a map. Once you leave that map you spawn on another map and that's really how simple it is.
It's only a matter of giving you the spawnpoint which you "travelled to". Your bridge despawns and you or your ship spawns.
The "travel" is as a *certain other feature* only symbolic as in it's text based. /guessing that the not to mentioned here feature has text based travel.
Which was my initial question and entry point into the disccusion, if one feat can have text based travel why can't the bridge have it to.
The thing that would give you the illusion of travel would be the jpg. still photo that is your viewscreen.
Alternately you could add perhaps a minimal shake camera or engine sounds simulating movement.
Think of it as transwarp from your bridge with a modified jpg. on the viewscreen, that's simplistic it is

"But what about expanding the functionality of the interiors? Any thoughts or rumors?"
Functionality is actually the topic here which would put you off topic if you mention any cosmetic issues

No, there is a way.
I'm trying to write the proposal for how Cryptic could pull it off, just got to put into the right words to explain it.

Travelling from your interior in this manner has already been discussed over a year ago. Dan Stahl himself even described it as an alternative way it could work.
However, they're not going to do it. I reluctantly accepted this the day they "revamped" sector space from the old grid map (was that Season 2 or 3? Season 4 maybe?). They've put too much work into making it work the way it is now to shove off Sector Space for "travel" from your ship interior. And despite ship interior travel being a better representation of what we actually saw in the shows, apparently people would get upset at not being able to see the physical model of their ships and the ships of others in the sector block instance as they travel from star system to star system (despite the fact that they would normally not see them as anything but a blip on the sensors anyway)
I just want a better scale Sovereign bridge. As it is now both the free ones and the C-Store ones are way too huge and have things either in the wrong place or missing completely. I wish there'd be a dev that works on fixing interiors like Capn Logan used to work on the ship models in his free time.

Rest assured that proper interior scaling is part of the proposed improvements.

i too have often asked when or if the interiors would be scaled proplerly
ie i can understand on a cruiser the roofs being high but on a ship like voyager
or an escort they should be smaller like on the Enterprise from the tv show , that was low interior setting ..
just an idea, when i go into walk around my shim etc i bring up my main map
maybe they could do one for space for plotting course etc if you know what i mean;)
I'll be honest, I think Cryptic's been good with proper scaled interiors for a while now. And with the introduction with the Belfast (Defiant) and the TOS Interiors, they have shown that they can be spot on when given the chance.
We just need them to go back and revamp the old Interiors and Bridge Sets to be reflective of Star Trek.
Yeah I know, but until Cryptic decides they are a monetarily beneficial venture (They are, for the record) they won't do it.
Speaking of monetarily beneficial ventures, where's Sumgai? He hasn't sent me the Galaxy interior yet so I can't make my proposal about how to make and sell it.

My sincerest apologies! I've been caught up with postgrad lately, but anyway the decks plans are on their way to you now.
FYI, there's a bit of an interesting tale as to the (sort-of) official nature of the Galaxy plans:
Phil Broad: "It was sometime during the first season of Next Generation's run on on TV that I mentioned in passing to Ed that "someone" should see about doing plans of the new Enterprise, like the old Franz Joseph deck plans of the ship from the original series. Ed replied "that gives me an idea" and the rest is history."
Ed contacted Paramount Studios and eventually came in contact with Star Trek Art Department staff member Andrew Probert who listened to his idea. Andrew thought it was good and they agreed that Ed should do the "official" plans for eventual publication. It would be up to Ed to not only create the drawings but to find a publisher as well. This would prove to be no small task, the drawings would take two years of effort to design and draw and the search for publishers was not easy either. In the end the gaming publisher "FASA" was given the contract to publish and distribute the plans under their existing license with Paramount for Star Trek related products.
As Ed got going on the project some of his original pencil layouts would be displayed at the last "Equicon" science fiction convention held in Los Angeles and interest from the fans seemed reasonably high. After two years of effort and uncounted trips to the studio to confer with Andrew Probert, Rick Sternbach and Mike Okuda, the plans were finally ready for publishing. Ed had them duly copyrighted and all seemed well.
It was at this point that fate intervened when it was learned that FASA had let their license with Paramount expire and they could no longer publish the plans. Ed began to cast about for a new publishing house and it was during this process that he learned that Rick Sternbach had agreed to the Pocket Book offer to produce plans of the ship. Ed now had to watch as all his work was cast aside so someone else could publish the "official" plans. There proved to be little that Ed could do to stop the other project as by this time his friend Andrew Probert had left the Star Trek Art Department.
The new plans seemed to borrow heavily from Ed's work yet did not incorporate many of the design features that the ship's original designer Andrew Probert had intended. Only Ed's drawings do that.
To cut a long story short, Whitefire's plans are the pre-official official plans.
I'll try to get a hold of the Pocket Books one if you want - no promises, though, since they're fairly hard to find on teh interwebz.
Edit: Score! I found the official Rick Sternbach plans, which were done after ST: Generations. Check your email
Laws of thermodynamics as applied to life: 0 - You must play the game. 1 - You can't win. 2 - You can't break even. 3 - You can't quit.
If I recall correctly, Andrew Probert did some terrific designs for the Galaxy-Class to be used in STO, when it was owned by perpetual entertainment (I believe).
I've been modelling for a few years now, principally as a "BATter" for SC4, but started to move more into interiors a year or two ago.
Here's a few of my 3d model interiors based on probert's sketches (which I've linked below each image as a comparison): I've tried to be as low poly as possible.
Absolutely love a scaled galaxy class interior like proberts, but i'd also support a modular foundry approach to building our interirors, by adding corridors and rooms, items and levels based on specific interior sets. That would be amazing.
I'd like to add:
The phaser training in the holodeck on TNG (sure, hitting little colored dots might not sound fun, but keeping a record of your scores against other BOffs and Captains aka WingCommander kill records).
It would be incredible to see your DOffs in ship-wide uniforms walking about carrying out their assignments. Imagine seeing a few diplomats being escorted through your ship complaining about their quarters
BOffs could be training other DOffs (security for example could be in the "gym"/holodeck carrying out exercises - scenes from TOS & TNG spring to mind).
Crucial to my own desires is allowing the ship to move while in the interior. At the very least, we should be able to set a course to a system, have the server calculate the amount of real time it would take to arrive, and then while in the interior have the ship "move" to the system. A simple star "screensaver" could be displayed at the viewscreen and then when we arrive our appropriate BOff could send a message.

As always thanks for creating such a great game and for continuing to improve upon it.
Why can`t Cryptic make the ship interiors useful and realitic. I have apoker table in my Mess hall that does nothing, why can`t we player poker with fellow Players and stuff!!!

I would LOVE to see the ship-specific interiors with hideout-esque options. I mainly use my Fleet Defiant over my Bug because of the interior on it. If I saw that on my other ships? I would simply swoon.
Sounds like an exhausting amount of work, however, and I would not blink at it showing up as a c-store item.
