I just got dome doing Khitomer Accord Space and I was guarding the time vortex and i lagged and wasnt able to destroy one probe in time and it got through barely and then my 'teammates' star saying I'm a noob and all Tac Cruisers are stupid noobs and Im a little kid and all this bs even when I explained what happened. So my Question is this, is everyone gonna troll people because they mess up a little and am I gonna be harrased for Running a tac Cruiser like I have been since I started playing, it took me less then a week to max out my toon, and is it wrong for me to use a Cruiser instead of an Escort?

If they disabled optionally for PuGs, this would stop. The ONLY measure that should matter for PUGs is whether you finish the mission. That's it.

Just ignore them and move one.
A good build tac cruiser/battlecruiser is a VERY viable build, especially in PvE/STFs.

You also have to remember, that when little children, or those with a child's mentality don't get their way, they will resort to name calling to make themselves feel superior.

When they resort to name calling, just remind yourself...

A tactical officer on a cruiser is the worst build ever, and people are telling you - without any respect, admittedly - that they don't like non optimal builds because it puts the mission at risk. It's like someone with one leg telling he wants to play in the national soccer team, some people can be very rude when they see that. I don't say they're right to behave like that but you should understand the word "elite", it's really for the best builds. If they complain you can also tell them that when they play with pugs, they take a risk they have to accept. Just don't be aggressive too when you read some angry feelings about what you do.

You shouldn't play stfs in a cruiser with someone esle but your fleetmates, they will be more tolerant. And there is plenty of pve content you can do with whatever ship you want with no one to provoke you. :)

In my experience, when the optional is missed, 99% of the time no one will say anything. The one thing I've learned about pugging the STFs is that ultimately, I am responsible for keeping an eye on the optional goal, and if we fail I have no one to blame for not staying on top of things but myself.

You were flying with a bunch of childish ragers. Give them the time and consideration they deserve: none.

    This^^

If you want to do stf's without the trolls then do not do pugs anymore.

I do have a question, though. Where were you guarding? At the vortex or at the gate? Guarding the vortex at the vortex is a common mistake, and opens you up to minor connection hiccups TRIBBLE you. In the future you can probably avoid what happened by intercepting them as they warp in. That should give you plenty of time to make up for a lag spike.

As for the other, a tac cruiser is fine for probe duty. Set up well, it's a pretty good build. I've got a cruiser myself with a siege setup that's awful for PVP since its hard to keep anything faster than a planet in the firing arc, but is a terror in STFs where everything's stationary, slow, or travels in a predictable straight line.

Especially when both gates are still up, you don't need a lot of DPS to take them out, as a tac/escort I regularly cover both gates and still get bored between waves. It gets hairy when one gate is destroyed, but at that point you shouldn't be on probe duty alone anyway with everyone piled up in convenient position to help.

As long as they are piloted well and have the skillset needed, they can put out almost as much dps as any escort, but then I have seen many an escort pilot be just as useless ;)

Any pug team dosen't need a "gate-keeper".... IMO the idea is nuts, as a proper team (pug or not) is usually more than capable of keeping the probes FAR from the vortex.

You didn do anything wrong... They simply failed at taking proper precautions
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

I gotta say, in Infected Space Elite, my usually laid-back demeanor turns to ire when the optional ges borked NOT because of the loot loss but because if you don't blow the Nanite Gens all att once, the mission goes from 10-15 minutes to a 30-minute slog. These are valuable minutes I'll never get back.

Point is, I understand, but really, the optional loot is just icing. If it doesn't extend the gameplay time by losing it, it's not so bad.

I have seen more all-antiproton ships bork the optionals than "rainbow" or "Skittle boats".

I find that my skill set and BO's works way better with a cruiser then an escort and the reason i guard the time gateway thing is because I've seen too many probes slip through when there isnt a guard, and when i guard 99% of the time we get the bonus, and my build is elite :P

just ignore that TRIBBLE. don't let it get to you. almost every mission i fail has some loser calling everyone a noob. it is the noob name caller that causes the failure.

there are a lot of nice people playing and some *******s too. just ignore the jerks. put them on you ignore list and you will never see them again.

OP, the people who called you a noob were just being mean and have nothing better to do than search for every oppportunity to bring someone down. I've seen many cases like this, including one stf I was in a while back. My friend wanted to do an stf, so we did a pug CSE. If I'm going to do a pug, I usually will only do normals. So anyway, I knew that everyone was going to pile onto guarding the Kang, so I flew off to kill the probes. As I am doing that I see the four other people trying to stop who knows how many BoPs and Raptors. My friend had stopped attacking the probes earlier to try and help these people, but the Kang was still getting desroyed. So I fly over to check on the Kang's health, only to find it destroyed soon after. And then one of the other people (not my friend) starts raging, saying something like "you guys suck, especially you voporak!" Then he warps out and my friend and I are wondering what's wrong with this guy, because obviously I had nothing to do with losing the stf. I just figured he was another one of those people who purposely sets out to insult everyone and needs all the loot.

Those who say things like this without any evidence are the real noobs.
I ask nothing but that you remember me.

The shallow end of the gene pool tends to drain directly into STFs sometimes. Nothing for it except maybe stoke their impotent rage and laugh at the things they write in chat.

When they flame you, just respond in different languages. I like Klingon, but any will work. :P

Something to consider OP, had you been in an escort... You'd have likely been able to recover from your lag spike and prevent the probe from getting through. That's the reasoning of the players that were raging at you, and they are ultimately correct.

Honestly though don't trip too much on it. Just ignore and go on. Play the game the way you want to play it. As long as your not doing something utterly stupid like running a rainbow boat or a lower tier ship, it's not a big deal

Maybe he doesn't want to play the easy mode, and prefers something different. Just because the mob isn't up to the challenge of playing more than tac/escort doesn't mean he has to.

dont worry we all get it. i remember when someone on KA ground was in the shield room lowering the shields when we handent even cleared out the room so we had an endless wave of Borg coming at us. i went into the room to take over told the team i was there then got told i am a noob the room wasnt clear and basically got blamed for something i didnt do. That was the most recent one.
As for tac cruisers i fly one and it hasnt let me down yet. sure i dont dish the firs escorts do but i can stay in a fight and help others a lot more.
The new STFs, since i remember the ones way back when they were still space ground and space missions that would take quite a while to do seem to be horrid evil places where people want to blame someone for everything without cause or forgiveness.

A cruiser is more capable in this role than an Escort anyway
don't let them bully you into one

Make a note of the @handles of those who say this stuff
keep them written down near your computer

then if you see that handle in a PUG again
    DISENGAGE

And tell the others WHY you are doing so

"Im sorry everyone but this Pug has picked up a Griefer (insert name) I'm warping out "

before very long that person won't be able to bully anyone else

Just about any vessel can be doing Probe Duty with some help with the 2 Borg Sphere + Probes spawns. Last night I was do Probe Duty on both sides of the map in with my Science Captain/Nebula Refit class ship. Most of the time I didn't to use anything more than Gravity Well to slow 'em down enough. So I could take 'em out in time. Than fly to the other side of the map and take probes on the active side of the map.

For any ship the key is not not be firing at the Probes from every direction. Get on once side of the Probe focus fire on one shield and them open with you big hitters (Torps, Beam Overload, HYT or TS). I find it easier to get along side the Probes match speed, make sue I'm 10+ km from the Gate and then use Beam: Fire at Will. That will take the shields of weaken them enough to make finishing them off with Torpedoes very easy.

A Cruiser character might have a bit of a harder times as them aren't nearly as maneuverable as other ships. Be Eject Weap Plasma (with the DOFF) is the great equalizer. A Tactical Captain/Cruiser character should have no problem whatsoever in taking out Problems. (Note: Can you tell I've been doing a LOT of STFs on a LOT of different character's lately?:) ) ATA take out the 2/3 problems on one side, Evasive and then full Impulase back to the other side. Eject Warp Plasma, Beam Fire At Will and then Torpedo Spread.

With the big spawns, other players should help out with Probe Duty. If they don't help out, it's their own fault for failing the

I think its time to do away with "loot" at all

Counter proposal (feel free to shoot down if using Canon issue weapons )

You complete a STF (Ground or Space) you recieve a Requisition of the MK appropriate
Normal MK X Elite MK XI Elite without Loss MK XII

You then gain NO reward for that same STF again until you have done all the others in the same set (Ground/space)

Reward items would be bind on pick up

No data chips , no randomness

Without loss means you complete the mission without anyone having to respawn (A difficult but not impossible option)

It?s a simple fact that the anonymity of the Internet can bring out the worst in the best of us and even more so in the worst of us.

I?ve run KASE with a pug that I joined from #EliteStf Channel awhile back and I called out before the mission started that I?ll cover Right Probes and everyone was cool with that.

We start the mission and some jerk in a MVA starts spouting off that I had no business calling right probes because I was flying the Vo?Quv.

Another team member also chimed in and told me that Carriers suck on defense.

I told them that I can clear 50% of the right side of KASE (Cube, small and large Transformers and stop all right side probes) in the same amount of time that it takes the rest of the squad to clear both sides of the left side.

We get going in the mission and I do exactly has I said that I?d do (I?ve done it 100?s of times before) and I toot my own horn about my achievement (Nothing tasteless)

The MVA pilot calls me a no Skill Hacker and bails on us and the other guy says that I did not need to be a jerk about it and told me I should have left well enough alone
