So you don't what it is like why bother posting. They are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to maneverable. And yes I have flown an escort. But prefer a cruiser.
cruisers can tank if the pilot understands the game.

Cruisers can do most things if the pilot understands cruisers
Same goes for escorts
there seem to be escort jocks and Cruiser captains
Escort jocks assume everyone else is useless
and some of us cruiser guys do not like or trust escorts
then why don't you tank and take the escort out before his buffs cooldown and he goes into another attack? escorts high power is short and temporary, then he must either run or cloak or somehow keep you occupied until he coolsdown and waits for the right moment to get you at your weakest. I mean omega deflector gives you +18 targeting.. assignment buff gives you +25 targeting skills, Accx3 gives you another 30% targeting per weapon, plus passive captain accuracy gives you another 10%. APO3 gives you more damage too or APB3 reduces the target's damage resistence. you can equal or exceed their defense value if you know what you are doing. If you read the skills description for targeting, you'll find that you'll hit a fast target if your accuracy (targeting) exceeds their defense value and you have a 100% chance to hit. By increasing in all the areas I mentioned, it would be very easy to do a lot of damage, and by being a cruiser, take more than you can dish out. Why haven't you suggested any of this for a cruiser? Not to mention, you have so many placate effects that you can throw at them and you can hold them in a tractor and decrease their defense value to -15%.. I mean.. c'mon. I have never been an eng or sci.. always a tac and flown a defiant since I could access it. Why am I the person having to instruct on cruiser?

I repeat the guy that was cheating was on MY Team
you can't destroy a team mate without zeroing (nearly impossible in pvp)
were he on the OTHER team We could have done him some damage (myself and a friend who flys a dreadnaught )
but as he was on our side he brought dishonour and shame on us all
We WON but because he was unbreakable by the enemy

sorry, used to tac.. you can't but read everything else I said :P
Oh yeah I can and did, here goes:-
Omega Deflector is part of a set you'd rather not be using as a Tank, for which MACO is much better.
Do you really expect waiting to crit on a Doff mission on the off chance it actually appears AND you crit it before PvP is viable?
Not everyone has the EC to blow on a set of ACCx3 weapons when you factor in how much people want for those things and thats assuming there are actually enough of the same type of ACCx3 weapons to outfit your ship.
It's nice to have that trait. It's not nice when you didn't understand the traits and didn't pick it.
Placate effects? You mean those special consoles? And people said you didn't have to pay to win.
Tractor beam is a flat out joke, when all it takes to get out of a TB2 is to hit evasive manouvers, using it is a waste of a boff power.

Yes that is better. As a cruiser, you have so many more heals to throw at yourself to offset the defense bonuses that you would lose with going omega deflector. Doff mission buff.. only mentioned it because it can help. have you researched how to increase your chances when it does appear? Accx2 are much cheaper if you can't afford accx3. you lose 10%, but if your target is moving slowly or stopped, your accuracy will be sufficient and the 10% won't matter. respec of traits and species supposedly in season 6 as stated by devs.. until then, you must focus on my other points until you can get the accuracy trait. consoles can give you placate effects, yes, but anything that slows down a fast moving target gives you a major edge.. you decrease his defense value and his shields will drop fast-- an escort doesn't have the power of a cruiser, so if he stops, he cannot put alot of power into shields. Tons of abilities do this without using special consoles. tractor.. depends.. even with evasives, they never can move away at full speed.. they go a little bit, stop for a second or two.. go a little bit more... APO will counter it completely if they have it. photonic shockwave will also counter it. warp plasma may be better for you as a cruiser and I know you have that-- not so many escorts have hazard emitters if they know better. So many other things to try and you didn't mention them.

ever consider the fact that if you have an elusive passive trait and you increase speed to your impulse engines (thereby increasing defense value) that it will be miss miss miss miss miss miss and that anything that does hit will be followed by a miss miss miss miss miss while the shields recharge? learn the game and quit asking for nerfs!
Exactly why many want a trait respect. A chance to retrait for a game they now understand better.
I know I do.
not bull....the only cruiser I know which I use all the time is he sovereign cruiser which can just about last longer, I switched to Odyssey cruiser just now and pvped and didn't last even half the time with my sovereign class. True escots should deal high dps but they are soo overpowered. The cannon fire follows my ship like a torpedo no matter how fast and far away I am.
Thats just graphics completing for an attack already determinedto have hit.
Oddly ive fought oddyes that tank like a champ.
Have you even watched Deep Space Nine? They explained how it was the most powerful ship in Star Trek, you see it taking down big cruisers like Keldon class and Negvars all the time. So of course its supposed to be the most powerful offensive ship in this game. It is only slightly more powerful offensivley then other Fed escorts though, having only 1 more tac bridge officer slot and its cloak.
That said it is possible for a single cruiser to not die against a single Defiant if you know what you are doing, maybe you should post your cruiser and carrier builds to see if the community can help you before giving up.
Or here is another idea just get the Defiant (Tactical Escort Retrofit) yourself, I feel like it is the best buy I ever made from the C-Store, the only must have item on there I cant do without.
people describing seeing shields at full health and nothing phasing them sound like they are describing the shield distro doff proc. it has such absurd healing power that no amount of damage can effect your shields for a few seconds
What the previous poster stated. Also, back before May, there was a bug with the Jem'Hadar Space Set. Using BFI and the Doff with it, it'd continuously allow your shields to be regenerated constantly.
However, it's been fixed. The OP doesn't know how to play the game sadly, I also think I know who it is, is it you Spike?

Yes you are very right about who that is
On the side note about OP i had him on my team today and he complain the whole time how defiant on opposite team is overpowered, so i went and take a look at this overpowered defiant and do you know what i saw... a Jem'hadar attack ship
Mybe OP should start at the beginning and learn what ship is what before scremas nerf nerf on the forums, god knows dev like to fix things that arent broken.
I bet this is for and escort. Have you ever tried flying a cruiser. I have tried every way with my cruiser there are times when I can hang in there but at the end boom. Escorts are overpowered and pvp is unbalanced. Even 1v1 i still lost. Alot of players fly escorts in pvp why because it is the only way to win.
If I might make a suggestion, post your build on the PVP forums, and ask for advice. I have found that most PVPers are interested in improving the experience for themselves as well... if you are dying a lot, they can help. It also is not as fun for them rushing through 15 kills.
As others have said, it has a lot to do with the build. You strike me as a I died, I must respec, rather than honing a particular build, or talking to others about what works for them.
I've been in PVP's where I have one, and many where I have got my behind handed to me on a silver platter. (I'm a tac or sci by the way). Some where they couldn't dent my shields, others that tore right through them as if they didn't exist.
Please don't cry foul without a thorough discussion with other successful cruiser captains.
One thing I have learned, is that performance in PVE is not a way to measure how well you will perform in PVP. PVE opponents don't "react" or use specific tactics based on your actions, and no team play/coordination (from the PVE opponents). From my experience, they are completely different.
I am not the guy to ask about PVP... but I posted a simple question on the PVP forums because I was thoroughly disgusted with with PVP after several humiliating defeats in a row... I posted my question, and a line formed to give me some advice (line being that rapid responses were posted). Within the hour, I had taken their advice, returned to PVP, and did much better. Do I still die, you bet (and so does the best pvp'er in the game (whomever that maybe). But, I my enjoyment level has increased, and I hold my own.
I've bought 8 ships from the C store since I started playing 3 months ago.
3 Different Toons, 2 Feds, 1 Klink.
All 3 now fly an escort.
The prob is lets ignore PVP since sadly its a side thing in STO.
In PVE, when an escort can tank enough for an Elite STF. What good is a cruiser, etc?
Specced either Full into threat or nothing into Threat I rarely die in Elite STF"s. Normal Missions are a joke. So yeah I agree Escorts are to powerful.
I feel it was a waste to buy 5 of the 8 Ships I bought. Flying a cruiser or Carrier simply means your gimping yourself in how much damage you can do.
Escorts shouldn't have the survivability that they do thats for sure. But since they do there is NO NEED for a tank in a group.
Same could be said for PVP.
While I dont get the Cruiser dying to an Escort in 1 vs 1. I played plenty of 1 vs 1's in several different Ships, both as an Engie and a Tac, and EVERY single fight always ended in a stalemate. I couldnt kill them, they couldnt kill me.
First I saw that as good balance. But, still an Escort has too much survivability negating the reason to fly ANYTHING but an escort. EXCEPT for persnal fun value.
I signed up to play Star Trek, and I do miss Broadsiding with Beams, but Since you spend sooooo much time grinding STF's in endgame, it felt like wasted time in a Cruiser.

Posts just like these make me smile. Contrary to common non PvPer belief we do have the single most helpful PvP communities in any MMO I have ever played.
Just post and ask and people will tend to outright tell you exactly how they play. No complaining though. Just post, ask and be ready to learn.
If you are a pickle in a pickle jar you know every pickle's different, sort of, but really they're all just pickles...

Please forgive the back to back post. Five on Five escort matches are only good for quickies.
Truth told the best matches in which I was involved were mixes with escorts, cruisers and a SV to keep it all interesting. Each fulfilling their role and supporting each other.
Your point about escorts owning STFs is valid on the surface, (I have gotten compliments on my cruisers in elite STFs when I use them for what I set them up for). What your obersavtion does underscore is the anemic AI and the limitations of what kind of a challenge PvE really is in this game.
If you PvPed in a good team you'd understand my gist better.

I meet a lot of captain kirk's in PVP and right enough, my escort makes them go poof and I know instantly (usually before I even fire on them) that they don't really understand how to tank properly in their ship. There are a lot of guides around and people are always happy to offer advice in game or after.
This community is a very helpful one. As long as you keep it civil
like i said the fan boys will attack at some point.
do you see the word nerf anywhere in my post?
lets talk about that match. all the others in the match were complaining even you.
now you you say somthing about me in hopes of what?
that ship was so small i couldnt even see it to tell what it was but its still an escort ffs.
its set up the same way.
but who cares what you say others in here said the same thing you need to get a defiant or a
jem hedar attack ship because you can sit and tank a group attacking you and kill them all.
sounds sweet but i spent enough time, effort and money. im not grinding out to get one now.
it just seems a little misleading the way the game is set up.
yes yes i have all the items mounted on my ship that you spoke of accept one which i have to investigate.
I have fought with people that started out mocking that i dont know what im doing then after a few battles we were talking like firiends.
but if you read through all the posts on this thread you see many saying yes there op'd or you have to get one of these ship which seems to be truth of the matter.
and as for my complaining in that match i told the team which ship to attack and they all ran away from that ship i wasnt complaining i was barkin at the team for sucking.
i hit that ship it wasnt moving i didnt scratch its paint it killed me in 3 seconds while i was spamming all my heals which i have 7 or 8 of i was dead before i got 4 off and none of them did anything.
emg power to shields, tac team, rev shield pol, and i forget the other doesnt matter one little timy ship so opp's and hardened that a bort doesnt scratch it.
and just the other day i sat for a few hours with a guy that talked me into beams saying i would increase my dps greatly and it was good before that and still i dont dent the teny tiny ship.
No one asked for a NERF
I asked that they fix it so he can't run TWO shields
which would be glitch repair
and no
He was STATIONARY no bonus for speed
and they were not being healed or buffed they were static not even flickering
So either glitch or exploit
interestingly enough he was armed with turrets not cannons don't see that often on a defiant
I can do that too in many of my ships, its is all about BO powers vs incoming damage. Remember a defiant/bop are small so when they pop RSP you can hardly see it, so all the damage you do goes to feeding their shields.
and this is just one thing out of 10-15 that can make shields stand up to damage...
and the defiant that is using turrets? that is because turrets do not eat a lot of power, as he runs high shield power which REALLY helps in tanking.its a build we did a long time ago, in ships called Turret Boat #'s
The double shield exploit is/was definately fixed, unless it has resurfaced with a more recent code merger (wouldn't be the first time)
I tested it, from the old dupe, this is not occurring that I can create. From damage Logs the system is only seeing the primary shield, no second layer popping in that I can find.
Skill matters. Build matters. Both arguably matter significantly more than the actual ship (assuming it's the right tier).
I've been an indestructible escort killing everything. I've been an escort being one-shotted over and over.
There are lots of strategies and defenses, and the simple fact is that you can't defend against everything at the same time, and you can't even get close to that while actually putting out decent damage.
In my experience, if I hit a cruiser that I just CANNOT take out... I ignore them and take out softer targets, because chances are decent that he's a turtle that can't actually do much.
Short form: You can't expect to buy a new, different sort of ship and jump into pvp immediately and expect to keep up with folks who have been honing a playstyle/build for months.
Also, tac/cruisers aren't super good. When I've pvpd as eng/tac bortasqu, I've done a decent job holding my own.
pretty much.
Surviving in PVP is not about the vessel, it is about the setup of the other player, and their timing. Tactics are a MAJOR help.
Now, am I saying pvp is not unbalanced? no, we all know it is, but not in the way being presented here. Do not confuse experience with knowledge. You can be very very knowledgeable about warfare, but when you try to fight against an experienced soldier you will take some defeats. Yet again this is how you learn.
I am one of those that can tank multiple ships in PvP, as I do when I go to test builds, it generally takes 4-5 to actually to start doing damage to me. Yet the drawback is that My Damage output is very mediocre due to this fact. Just how it is with the current game mechanic. I can do this in a AC, my Gx, my G(r), my SC, my Oddy, its not much difference. Folks figure out quickly it is like beating their head into a brick wall, and just move away ignoring me. which... makes testing tough some days lol.
recently, with the Akira out, I run the Heavy Escort carrier into pvp and STF, which I enjoy more as its a good balance for Firepower/Surviveability for Old Mongo. Wife did not like hers till I fixed her skills, her BO's, and her equipment to match her style, now she loves it.
Do not feel bad about having a tough time in PVP, yeah it needs some work, but know too that your builds may need some equal work too. Nerfing is a bad thing, Lets make sure as players we are doing all we can first and not being lazy in our approach to the PVP arena.
PVP is not for the casual person, as much as games would want you to believe, you will always have those of us who are evil geniuses lurking in those arena's who will ruin your day simply because we just have a better way of doing it.
like i said the fan boys will attack at some point.

and btw what is a APO3 console?
There is no APO3 console that is a BO, (Bridge Officer), ability. Only escorts tend to to have the tac BO stations high enough to use that skill. Still APO1 is not impossible for a cruiser.
As for the rest of your post I have to suggest you are closing your mind to the advice you have been generously given. I have used healer boats in Cap and Holds with the intention of getting attention and holding it so that others on my team could grab the flags. I got ganked a lot, (and quite quick in my opinion), and was shocked when I was complimented on how well I tanked after that match. I was getting pounded by three to five of the other team the whole time, (see I am far from a Era or a Bieber), still I did my job as best I could. Some days you eat bear other days the bear eats you that is the nature of PvP.
How is your subsystem power set up. That is another factor after all. If you have you power set to heal you will have little going to your weapons and will do little damage because of it. You need to find a mitigating factor like running full power to weapons with the rest to shields and packing AuxBats to augment your heals if you wanna be something as LOL worthy as a DPS cruiser and still demand a degree of respect. I would have lasted a lot longer in my earlier example had I remembered to boost Aux and Shields after I got their attention. Instead I left all power to the weapons and paid for it.
If you are a pickle in a pickle jar you know every pickle's different, sort of, but really they're all just pickles...

I AM NOT A FAN OF PWE!!!!
MEMBER SINCE JANUARY 2010
I agree. The cruiser is doing something wrong but them hard to crack escorts can annoying at times.

Exactly why many want a trait respect. A chance to retrait for a game they now understand better.
I know I do.
R.I.P
Thats just graphics completing for an attack already determinedto have hit.
Oddly ive fought oddyes that tank like a champ.

Star Trek Online, Now with out the Trek....
Edited to add: I could swear that I posted these exact words in another thread about a year and a half ago. Wow deja vu feels creepy.
Attack Pattern Omega 3
Does all sorts of goodness.
This community is a very helpful one. As long as you keep it civil
do you see the word nerf anywhere in my post?
lets talk about that match. all the others in the match were complaining even you.
now you you say somthing about me in hopes of what?
that ship was so small i couldnt even see it to tell what it was but its still an escort ffs.
its set up the same way.
but who cares what you say others in here said the same thing you need to get a defiant or a
jem hedar attack ship because you can sit and tank a group attacking you and kill them all.
sounds sweet but i spent enough time, effort and money. im not grinding out to get one now.
it just seems a little misleading the way the game is set up.
yes yes i have all the items mounted on my ship that you spoke of accept one which i have to investigate.
I have fought with people that started out mocking that i dont know what im doing then after a few battles we were talking like firiends.
but if you read through all the posts on this thread you see many saying yes there op'd or you have to get one of these ship which seems to be truth of the matter.
and as for my complaining in that match i told the team which ship to attack and they all ran away from that ship i wasnt complaining i was barkin at the team for sucking.
i hit that ship it wasnt moving i didnt scratch its paint it killed me in 3 seconds while i was spamming all my heals which i have 7 or 8 of i was dead before i got 4 off and none of them did anything.
emg power to shields, tac team, rev shield pol, and i forget the other doesnt matter one little timy ship so opp's and hardened that a bort doesnt scratch it.
and just the other day i sat for a few hours with a guy that talked me into beams saying i would increase my dps greatly and it was good before that and still i dont dent the teny tiny ship.
and btw what is a APO3 console?
and this is just one thing out of 10-15 that can make shields stand up to damage...
and the defiant that is using turrets? that is because turrets do not eat a lot of power, as he runs high shield power which REALLY helps in tanking.its a build we did a long time ago, in ships called Turret Boat #'s
I tested it, from the old dupe, this is not occurring that I can create. From damage Logs the system is only seeing the primary shield, no second layer popping in that I can find.
pretty much.
