I click the icon every day hoping maybe this will be the day? They have a week before I go on the attack spamming tech support again lol. All we ask is for a dev to make one little post to say yes we are working on be patient or something!

This has nothing to do with ping. Nothing to do with FPS. It's strictly a connection between the client and the servers. I'm going to go out on a limb and say I think it's server-side issues as much as a bad client patch. Certain ports time out every so often via Nettest. The fact that many other folks are having the same problem tells me that it's something getting choked on the server side. Maybe the latest patch is making bad calls to the server, sort of an accidental self-imposed DDoS. Who knows. I just wish there'd be public acknowledgement of the issues.

I'm not quitting the game over it (unless they never get around to fixing it, of course). Just a little frustrated.

Now last monday, my desktop decided it wanted to join the great network in the sky...

So after purchasing a brand new Alienware X51, updating all OS and driver patches, installing STO from DVD-ROM, waiting for a 4GB plus patch to download by the launcher, I'm up and running again (there are shadows everywhere!!!). The only issues I have is an occasional lag when loading DS9 or ESD, and only during peak hours from Europe & the US....

So from my experience, it doesn't look like a STO Server issue...

Well we cant all afford brand new computers to play Star Trek so it has to be something else. Glad you are back in tho!

Besides I have an email from Support saying the Devs are aware of this issue from numerous support tickets and are working on it.

its not a problem with our internet connection, unless hundreds of people have the same problem. i get server not responding constantly when i am just standing still. or trying to put stuff on my toon. i have been randomly disconnected from the server 3 times in the last 2 days. this is outrageous and insulting to anyone that would say its a problem on OUR end.
*Me*Why don't you just step away from the weapons console. You and I both know that you couldn't hit that cube, even if it was right in front of us.
*Junior Tactical Officer* But sir the cube IS right in front of us.
*Me* EXACTLY! Its right in front of us and you still missed it! Just step away from the console.

Cryptic says its not on their end contact ISP.

ISP says its not on their end contact Cryptic.

I'm getting nowhere with these people.

    You see my problem.

I guess I won't be playing until this magically fixes itself.

Too bad this game is quite fun. :(

Oddly, my brother can now play on Tribble, but both Redshirt and Holodeck are still a no-go zone for him. Wasn't there a "General server stability improvements" thingy update on Tribble recently?

Edit: Oops! Forgot the "r" in "Redshirt".

Oh, right, forgot to mention, he also reinstalled the game today. So it could be the Tribble update, the reinstalling (not likely), or a combination of the above. Will have to ask him for deraits- I mean details! Think my spelling is taking a nap... :o

Re-edit: And apparently, smileys have been updated WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING *changes "" into ":O"

Re-re-edit: Right, wanted to post that in the re-edit but forgot (and yes, I am literally editing this moments after a previous edit xD): He says he last tried and failed yesterday, so it's gotta be a combination of the update and reinstall.

A reinstall does nothing as it has to connect to the patcher to update anyway, I tried a reinstall a few weeks ago from disc, then it couldnt load the launcher so I was even further behind the 8 ball. But I did manage to get through a few times so it did download the patches but I havent been able to get in in over a week.

I am finally able to stay connected now, after I did the following:
    1. Uninstall STO from Steam
    2. Re-install STO independently, using the original Atari DVD-ROM and letting the launcher install the current version
    3. On my STO shortcut, check the "run as Administrator" checkbox
    4. Set up Windows Firewall rules to allow both the launcher and GameClient through ports 80, 443, and 7000-7500

Tried it, but your game is installed in Program Files, right? That's the only reason I can think of for needing admin privileges.

My brother now claims (haven't seen him try myself) it works fine. Thanks for the tip, NCC!

    They need to fix this.

This has been a reoccurring issue for the game since before launch.
Back then the most obvious was the rubberbanding that was an almost constant glitch in the game.

Now this. Constant disconnects, server timeouts, game just freezing for several seconds at a time. This results in failed missions, let down team and fleet mates, damaged ship, injured crew, hair loss, sore throats and hands and thighs ;)

Overall it has made the game unplayable. Something that has really upset me seeing as I just dropped close to a hundred bucks in that infernal C-Store and now I can't even attempt to enjoy the game.

Every time I come back I still see this issue. And every time it plays a factor in driving me away from this game.

Another thing to check, if this is part of your setup, is your residential gateway. My ISP is AT&T U-verse which uses an RG as a master controller for both my cable TV and Internet services. The other night I searched their support site and found that (1) many other users were encountering server lag issues in online gaming, and (2) one trick that seems to work most of the time to fix it is to hard-reset the RG - that is, unplug it, plug it back in and allow it to reboot.

So, if your Internet connection goes through a residential gateway, that is one more thing to try.
