So, I just recently became a 600 day subscriber veteran.

So, you know, I get that VA Ship token, right?

And this ship just came out, right? Great! Free ship!

    No.

Apparently my token is a Galaxy-R token. Because I own ALL the other VA ships except that one and this new ship.
And it is, surprise surprise, apparently not valid on the new T5 Akira.

    That's a bug too, right?

    ...right?

Otherwise I'm a little disappoint and up until now, I've been of the mindset to give cryptic some slack and play the game for what it is and enjoy it as it comes. But...

THE LINE MUST BE DRAWN HERUAH. THIS FAR. NO FURTHER.

Seeing as how there was no information regarding the console before I purchased the ship, I'm EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!! I purchased the ship not only for some fun in STF's on one toon, but to use the console on a PvP basis. I never post in the forums, but this has driven me to it. BranFlakes, please pass the message along that there NEEDS to be MORE testing, and perhaps allow us to try them on the test servers to see if we even like them. At the very LEAST, please let us know in advance what the limitations are as far as consoles and restrictions for fighters.

Your company has made a great deal of money today in the release of this new ship, which is beautiful btw, and I must applaud your quick reaction to fix the STF restriction, but this has been an unfair day to the players and LOYAL members. You've got one of the toughest jobs I could imagine...dealing with all of our complaints and flaming on the forums, and I respect that, but these things need to be addressed.

    Thank you for your attention.

The tooltip for the stalkers state that it can be used on a "Carrier", while the other fighters can be used on "Carrier, Escort Carrier". I believe it is working as designed :)
Interesting... so it's treated like the KDF frigates, bound to their respective carriers. Why is that? Not exactly a frigate. Balance issues?

Lovely ship. Love my flight deck cruisers though, not much of an escort fan. So I'll pass on this one, if ever a fed flight deck cruiser comes, I might just go back to my fed toon for a play :p

I could see why the Caitian Fighters are only for the Caitian ship, since its not a True Starfleet ship, and just a federation ship, they wouldnt let the fighters be used on other ships.

I thought consoles from T5 c-store ships being tied to that type of ship was common. A few people seem suprised that they can't put this one on other ships.

    This isn't new, right?

Personally, I think it's great. The monster got a lot of extra love in the early design phase, and I think it shows, the end result is pretty fantastic. LCDR Miller did a wonderful job on the art.

Its has some nice features, but both the Armitage and the Thunderchild say to me that the artists don't get what makes the Akira so cool. The Thunderchild has its nacels up to high, making it feel out of balance, and the Armitage has the front edge of its sleek saucer belly blunted off, with the deflector moved forward into a more clunky design, totally ruining the visual flow. Maybe they can be bashed together into something that works, as the skins are pretty sweet, or maybe type 6 skins will be made to work on the standard Akira model. Maybe they will show up on Redshirt and/or Tribble so we can check them out.

The extra love shows... Personally, as someone who WANTS this ship (I love it, and my complaint is actually WHY I want it), I think it's... well, a LOT OP. It's got a Torpedo PDS (Hella damage), a wing of fighters (as if it needed the support), and stats that come REALLY close to the Defiant Retrofit (superb turn rate with a BOFff slotting that looks like a a DPS/Tank hybrid's DREAM). It's got the capacity to be really HELLA damaging as an Escort alone, but then it has all the extra HELP. This is NOT a ship whose guns you stare down in a one-on-one, unless you're freakin' INDESTRUCTIBLE. Did anyone, even ONCE, look at this and say, "shouldn't this be toned down? Isn't this just a LITTLE overpowered?"

Beautiful ship, clean lines, looks absolutely gorgeous. Quite a bit overpowered in PvP with the free hanger bay; far, far superior to the MVAM pets.

So i got this ship this morning and i have got to say i love it. I have never played a carrier before because i am not a fan of slow moving ships (honestly my only engineer ship is the dreadnaught) but this ship has everything i wanted in one. Yes i could not take it in to an STF run and could not equip it with the scorpion fighters but this ship handled like a beast in the fed mirror universe event! Agile with support craft and great crowed control with both PDS on it. By far one of my favorite ships that i have purchased.cant wait to use her in an stf tomorrow :D

I don't want to sound like a whiner, but if there's no immediate future plans on KDF ship releases, I'd like to know so I can stop playing klinks and switch to fed.
lol dont want to sound like a whiner but the KDF has 2 light carriers and a full size carrier. and feds have 1 full size and now 1 light carrier. But leave it to the masses of the ever crying klinkers to start screaming about how unfair it is. the KDF has quite possibly the best tac ship in game in the guramba. the KDF has the BoPs which is a ship full of universal boff slots and even after this ship still have one more option for carriers. oh yeah and plasmonic leech console is not a bit op at all.
Yeah, lets stick on target and not detract from the subject at hand team.

I'm curious what EPIC FAIL you will have in season 6. ( maybe you approach the base and it attacks you, or maybe, even you get it, and after a patch, it says it is not your base, go build ourself another one).
what new policy? I do not remember reading anything about policy over releasing of new ships. Cryptic has the reputation of poor QA/Implementation on new release items. That isn't news. I learned never to buy new things, to let them sit minimum 2 weeks before even looking at them till bugs get worked out of them.
Man you guys will complain about everything. Nothing works 100% of the time, so it has a bug, big deal. I think they do a great job even if you guys complain about every little thing. If its so bad don't play, go some where else and play some perfect game. Every game has its bugs. The problem with you complainers is that you want everything now, instant fast food style and in perfect working order. its not possible with millions of lines of code. I know thats what testing is for but it does not always catch everything.

I think the new ship is great, good job
For a item that cost extra RL money, as consumers, they are allowed to voice their opinion. Does not mean you have to share in it, but like it or not, for the $25USD this thing cost, i thought folks being fairly civil, considering Cryptics QA track record. So like it or not, Cryptic took their money, so now they get to deal with unhappy customers over a broken product that does not function properly. Very simple actually.

Well not getting a new ship this month I guess. Raging on the forums about this ship and my friends are always wondering why I wait to buy anything new off the CStore.

I was going to buy this ship when I got home from work, but with all the love for the ship on the STO forums I think maybe I'll pass on this ship for now and hope the next new escort doesn't take another 2 years to come out.
See, someone who is thinking :). Yes I let anything new stay out for a minimum of 2 weeks, and sometimes a month before I will look at it. It is not the fact its a great ship, beautiful design, and masterfully done.

As always it is the deployment to Holodeck and all the "bugs" that seem to always come with anything new sent out. And considering this pixel something is $25USD, I am impressed folks are staying as civil as they are. THey have the right to be upset buying a product that is not performing as advertised.

the rest of you, LIGHTEN UP. everyone know's about the issue, but calling Cryptic a fail won't get things done
Fanboi much? They have the right to air their grievances out for a broken product they purchased. I myself can understand some issues that occur, but this is a reoccurring theme with Cryptic, and especially after DSTAHL mention to us QA is a "major thing" to him, this gives him and the whole QA/Implimentation process a major black eye.

For its price tag, it better show some power. They let the cat out of the bag now, its a +1, so yes it is suppose to be a step up in power.

That is what happens when such things are not tested properly. Its is why many folks stop testing when our feedback was ignored and things were rushed out still broken from tribble. Now they have to hold "special" events to try to entice folks to come test things on tribble.

So they reap what they sewed.

Well at least they fixed the STF issue but I still can not equip Scorpion fighters to this ship...was this ship not intended to not be able to launch them or is this still a bug? Its a little odd that any ship but this one can launch the Scorpion fighters and this is carrier. This was also my first carrier so i was really hoping to max out the number of pets with scorpion fighters (since it only has one hanger). I am really hoping it's just a bug that is not letting me equip the fighters to it.:(

I certainly get what you are saying, but I don't see there being much of a process here. Cryptic admitted to the issue straight up and stated when it would be fixed. What exactly do the not all that descriptive EPIC FAIL! replies add in this case?

What could Cryptic have done better? More testing IMHO. On the flipside, they also could have not owned up to it, or not advised when there would be a fix, or delayed the ships release entirely. In that last scenario we would not be able to use it in STFs... or anything else in the game.

I agree that feedback is important to the devlopment and enjoyment of STO, but if it is not constructive (evil overlords, personal attacks on devs or other players, EPIC FAIL and the like) or proportonal we run the risk of not being listened to in the future.

    Just my 2CP.

Actually most people I saw in the thread were pretty specific about what they were upset with. The majority made a comment about it being broken. Perhaps you're being a bit on the dramatic side?

I would also point out that acting like them acknowledging the problem and fixing it isn't some divine act of benevolence; that's the things you have to do to not be a bad developer. It's a given. Hooray for them not being terrible?

In the end, you have to remember one thing: You are not the moderator of these forums. Trying to police them will just cause problems; that's what the mods are here for. Just because you don't like the way someone is giving their feedback doesn't mean you get to censor them.

People will say what they want regardless, and we have to trust that Cryptic is smart enough to tell the difference between random white noise and people who are legitimately complaining about the game. People get emotional when they feel their game is broken or they were let down, it shows they care about the game.

Sooo, like the error message tells you if you don't already have the item then you don't have any free ship slots on that character. Do you have any free ship slots on that character?

As a software UX designer/developer I have been part of major releases and patches on server-side software systems for the better part of a decade. These systems have 500,000+ active users hourly, so ensuring that QA catches issues is a financially motivated process. Think: your income will stop if this fails. Not everything is perfect though, and occasionally something slips through.

We call these 'unintended consequences' or as developers say 'undocumented features'. :):

When these are discovered too late (ie customer experiences the issue), the question is ALWAYS financial. Do we live with it until a patch can be scheduled - or - do we roll everything back to the pre-update. In the case of an MMO or our software (security related), server roll-backs are insanely expensive due to downtime.

A patch, usually with 24-hours notice is fine for non-mission-critical updates. MC or Mission Critical constitutes a lot of different scenarios, but it always boild down to affecting your income.

Each time we get a new set of unintended consequences, we rewrite our launch check-list. That's right - we use an old fashioned check-list to ensure each new element doesn't impact another. For those of you who do not understand software - it isn't one giant program, but thousand of separate elements that play together. Now see that model duplicated across many interconnected servers, you can visualize the potential for error. Yes, we do have tools to track everything, but to be honest sometimes one little glitch can have a cascade failure across the system.

For some companies that little glitch can come from something they didn't expect: routine server OS updates, hardware with defective software, or even an overzealous developer who added something at the last minute. I've experienced it all and YES if I could avoided it, I would have.

Sometimes in the rush to deploy, the development team is pressured to deliver by the date they themselves have come up with. Never let a developer select the date. Let him propose it, then double it for good measure. (I expect a lot of flack for that comment, but reality bites).

Sometimes in the rush to deploy - little things we assume will work, we don't bother to test. In this case ti might be something as simple as a flag in a dbase enabling access to STF's or fighter types. You can't manually edit the dbase and propagate the change on multiple servers, so a patch is scheduled.

It's not the end of the world. Nobody dies.

If it happens again, then look to the QA team with a steely gaze, and carry a baseball bat in the office.

cool story bro tho would be more exiting if someone died.
