As for the odds, I opened 5 packs, and got my JH Bug on the fifth pack.
Also, a handy tip for those that are interested - if you've completed the Karemman, Paradan, Cardassian, Bajoran colonial assignment chains, you can trade up those excess common Duty Officers from your opened packs for better green/blue/purple ones
Going to add my support for this method as well. Never was interested in lockboxes. This promo incentivized me enough to get some Gamma Quad packs. I really enjoy the DOFF system, but was content with the cadre packs. When I saw this promo, I decided to beef up my DOFF line up and see what else might happen.
If you guys do themed DOFF packs, i.e. Beta Pack; Rom/Reman/Hirogen with a Warbird chance, or guaranteed 10 lobi, then this is something I would be more inclined to go for. But I do want a Romulan Faction instead.
35 packs opened, no ship
so disappointed i would love one of these ships
worst luck ever on this one
same thing with the lock boxes for ferengi ship, been trying to get gold boxes to increase my chances but 60 something mystery boxes later and still not a single gold
For a limited time, there is a chance to receive a Jem'Hadar Attack Ship or Lobi Crystals upon opening a Gamma Quadrant Duty Officer Cadre before theyre discontinued.
You mean cheap doffs?
People are selling them on exchange for literally nothing so my question is what useful items and why pay money/cp for something easy to get from other players for few ec ?
It's just Perfectworld once again gouging people for money and giving nothing in return. and this time it's not even for a new ship...but a recycled one already up for grabs once.
GG PW...you boys and gals really know how to destroy an IP.

So our saying you prefer lock boxes this is a way of improvement
After a dozen duty officer packs still no bug, this system is just as rigged as the Lock-Boxes. Especially when loyalty is ignored like when someone gets it after 2 or 3 while others open dozens with no luck. I think this system should be adjusted so after a certain amount of opens or purchases (like 15 for example) a player is guaranteed to get the bug ship. This way Cryptic is still getting their money and the player if they have the money and really want want the bug will get it.
But then that would defeat the object of being a rare ship if they did that then they might as well jut give it away as many people would just do that so they can get the ship.
1. The lockbox, or pack model is still gambling as it works. Maybe not legally but this is how it works.
Regarding this, one either choses to partake, or one does not.
2. Duty officer packs are and were there for sale, for the exact same amount of c-points as they are now. A chance had been added so they might drop a special item. So, in this context it can be said, that you do gamble for free. Because you get the worth of your money, and you might get the special item, or not. Of course it is a great marketing move because this way those who were undecided to whether buy or not doff packs, now they will buy them. But those who only buy them, because they want the ship, cannot complain that they did not get anything. They got doffs, fro c points, as before.
i hope to see more items and ships added this way NOT the lock box and pls could u put the boxes in dilitum for free and remove then as drops in the game. this way its win win
What's going to happen to the DOff packs in our inventory/bank when they get "discontinued"? Will we still keep them but can't buy more, or will they completely vanish (meaning we've wasted the C-points if we don't use them before the discontinuation date)?
As with others in this thread, I like this promotion, compared to the Lockboxes. You get what you paid the 220CP for: 7 DOffs. Then you also get 10 Lobi (or a hypersmall % chance (~1% is my guess) chance at the Bug Ship).
Brilliant!
I'll buy a few packs myself....
Well, I turned-out not to bother logging into the game (had no reason to), so I didn't buy any promo packs afterall.

I suspect you will keep them until you decide to use them

The duty officer packs you have already bought will stay bought after the promotion is completed. The promotion just limits what can be purchased, not what can be opened.

Will they retain their ability to drop lobis/bugships after the event, like the lockboxes and winter boxes did?

not sure but i would imagine not. the event was only on for a while and then it ends. once its no longer promoted i would guess all of the ones left will return to normal.
the lockboxes and winter boxes are designed to drop ships and other items as their main function. with the doff pack it was just tacked on after.

Still better than what you got with those lockboxes which was sometimes just rubbish crystals
