Does anyone remember when we had the Badge of Temba and stuff because of season 1's problems and that bug that leveled you down? Well, Cryptic should give us something (2 lockbox keys) for this "disaster" cause by their own incompetence.
I could give 2 fecal matters about free keys...they should be creating and providing authenticators to anyone who has ever spent a dime on the cstore or subscriptions. This is the only way I can feel assured that this matter has been appropriately handled.

One would imagine they could do as Blizzard has: Mobile app for authentication (works identically to the external authenticators). This way, they don't need to send out hardware if someone already has a smartphone with the app on it.
ok I've been away for a while, but when did they change it so the admin password and game login are the same?
I like having a huge ugly password for admin and a slightly easier to remember one for logging in to the game(s).
I'm constantly surprised by the vitriol that the forums can sometimes provide. They just found out about a security risk due to the security upgrades they mentioned in the notice, and so they took action *and* gave us all notification. Meanwhile Brandon is stuck with the job of trying to rein in the storm of superfluous threads. What's done is done, what more could we ask for?
Um an actual investigation to uncover obvious security issues at the time everyone was constantly being TRIBBLE instead of blaming everything on STOwiki and some non existant keylogger. They did all that only to say 3 months later," Oh our bad it was us! Our apologies for any inconvenience. By the way, your data has been stolen for over a year now ~CHEERS!"
Also, how about an authenticator from Cryptic for their games. I don't think its too much to ask for Cryptic to be proactive instead of reactive when it comes to security measures for their customers. I find it quite upsetting that my account security is a joke to them and it costs too much for them to make it safe. Well you know what, if you don't have, or are unable to provide what it takes to run mmo, maybe you shouldn't be you know, well, running a mmo.

Key thing here is assuming everyone has a smartphone. I do, but I don't like those authentication apps at all. So I will take mine via the old fashioned random key generating key-chain held doohickey thx.

Just as a note, my static group buddies had to wait about 15-20 minutes for their emails (Mine got here instantly but I hit it like the moment it was posted up.)
So even though I got the email saying my password was reset, it turns out that it wasn't since I have a PWE account. I was able to log in just fine. So it seems that only Cryptic accounts were affected by this. Those of you still on Cryptic accounts might want to consider merging to a PWE one. Better to have a secure PWE account than a potentially compromised Cryptic account. They probably have better security, all things considered.
Or you may want to log out of the forums, reset it, and re log in. I got it as well but was logged into the site, since it was using an auto log in. But hey, that is not just me saying it, its all over the thread. And thank you but no, I don't want a PWE account, I have no need for one, I have a cryptic account.
My friend is a long time player and the e-mail address linked to his account is no longer active. He can therefore not receive the password reset e-mail.
Submitting a ticket to Cryptic requires him to login, which he can no longer do. In the interim, he's submitted a ticket on the Perfect World website, but as his account is a Cryptic account, he's not sure they'll be able to help him.
Can anyone advise of the steps he needs to take to deal with this situation?

Try calling Cryptic. I had to call Blizzard once for a similar reason and he just changed my email in their records over the phone.
To reset your password you need to actually log out of the STO website. You can't reset unless you completely logout - and once you logout you can't post to the forum any more until you reset your password to get back into the STO website.
If you logged out and reset and put your new password into the forum, and it let you log back in and post on the forum again, then you are simply typing your password incorrectly in the launcher when trying to get into the game.
last I checked I was not playing STO in dec 2010 I was in in afghanistan
Your account was created in Match 2010. It doesn't matter if you were playing in December or not. You account was on file then.

I can still log into the forums and the game using my PWE details without having to reset them, so I don't see why I would need to. It was Cryptic that got TRIBBLE, not PWE.

heh...
Some how, you are not completely Logging Off of the Forums...
For if you did, you would not be able to come back and post a response, because your old password has been deleted.

Why did it take almost 2 years before you found this out. I think EVERYONE deserves a answer on this.

Too bad I cant go back that far!

so how do I reset my password
You log out, when you go back to log in, click I forgot my password and follow the instructions.
Fortunately, I use a prepaid credit card for this game, there's never more then $80 to $100 dollars on it.
(most months it's under $50)

ipod touches work also.
You really do have to LOG OFF the FORUMS... Completely.
Close yer browser to make sure.
Then manually re-open the STO Main Page... don't use your FAVORITES LINK.
Then use the FORGOT PASSWORD LINK below the sign-in rectangles.
Check in your SPAM Box of your Email server if ya don't see the reply.
If you are still able to post here... then you have not logged out completely.
ANSWER : Cryptic was far too busy with the C-Store to take notice of that new guy with the portable hard drive in their office for the last 2 years.
Good thing I ERASED my debit card details seconds after geting a life time. I only trust game company's as far as I can throw my washing machine.
I have never been TRIBBLE due to my own security systems. If I can do it, so can they, but it might bite into thier profit margine.
With this will we all get a BOFF that can hack into other people's ships and turn off their shields?...what? it's canon!

Hope you guys can be able to fix it soon!
