I totally agree. This is terrible marketing, but really that's par for the course with Cryptic, who couldn't market themselves out of a paper bag. The devs regularly claim that only a "small but vocal minority" actively read or participate on the forums. The amount of players watching or listening to podcasts is even less. How are you supposed to reach the casual free player if you don't make the information readily available to them?

I hope they consider this "leak" as a bomb and bail on this terrible idea. Just sell one version of the ship for one price. Beforehand, I was really considering picking up the +1 Odyssey using some of my Cpoints. Now that I know how it works, I'm likely not going to even bother getting any +1 variants at all since I know I'll only be getting 1/3 the experience if I make a single purchase.
And I know that buying all 3 types will simply be far too expensive to even seriously consider. I could probably buy 2-3 fairly recent AAA titles for the price of all 3 ship variants in this B-grade MMO. Where's the value in that?

Actually that's not true at all. What you want is advertising that reaches the largest possible audience. Not just the regular forum-goers. In fact, only a very small percentage of the player-base actually frequents the forum.
Plus, as he said above, eventually there will be a Dev Blog explaining all about the ships - which always happens before the items become available.
Definitely a terrible idea. I get the need to make money, I get being a business, but this one made me roll my eyes hard. We're over here clamoring for the ships that are STILL not out, and you turn around and make three versions of the same ship.
Well, I won't be buying any of them, casting my vote for how much this idea sucks. And the Odyssey is not a pretty girl. As a matter of fact, I'm so unimpressed I'd delete the free one from most of my toons if it wasn't a collector's item right now (i.e. not available anywhere else).

one for tac , one for science and one for engineering , different console layouts i believe and each comes with its own console , saucer sep , one i cant remember for science and a tactical escort that comes out the baclk on the third ( escort has quad phasers lol )
for the bortas a BoP , a massive disrupter spam cannon and another i cant recall

Priority 1's interview with Bran_Flakes. He let loose with the info towards the end of the show. 3 Different versions of the Odyssey. A different console for each. One is saucer separation. One will launch Work Bees. One will launch the tactical escort. The variants have a new skin which is very similar to the free Odyssey.
BortasQ will have a console that will launch a BoP escort ship, a disuprtor barrage, and X which brandon didn't say. I assume the KDF equivalent of Work Bees.
And the different consoles can all be placed on one ship. Brandon didn't now how they will interact (i.e. global cooldowns, etc). And the Odyssey doesn't have MVAM. you don't get to control any entity you want. The Saucer and Escort acts as pets like the Galaxy-R does.
I'm not going to ***** about it on the forums. I'm not going to make frankly baseless attacks on Cryptic or cryptic employees personally.
I'm going to wait until I have solid information, and -then- decide if it suits me. If I think the variants are too expensive? I won't buy it. Period. Doesn't mean I'll start accusing PWE of being some kind of cancer on Cryptic or whatever else is going these days for dev insults.
What I want to see? That devblog. More details! stats! prices!

How is it greed in given players a variant they will want (i.e. tactical, cruiser, science) rather then a one size fits all? It seems like good business sense. Create something that more playser swill want, and more player will buy.

This is just bitter. I'm an ENG and was looking forward to the full +1 Odyssey, having an aux craft and saucer seperation, also for RP reasons. But what do I get? Repair shuttles. I already have the free Ody and have to pay 1600cp for freaking repair shuttles. This bites.
EDIT: The above statement was made due to the assumption that 1600cp per variant was a fact. We'll see ^^
I know no one is forcing me to buy these (and I certainly won't now). But having 3 versions of one ship instead of one +1 ship with swap-able consoles is just wow... thank god I'm a free player now *gg*

Well, originally the +1 was going to have both Saucer Separation and an Aux Craft. Now it doesn't. You need to pay more to get both abilities. It seems a little like price gouging; but that will depend on the price of the various pieces.
Are you all forgetting people asked for exactly this when the new flagships were announced? They fulfull one groups desire, and everyone comes out of the woodwork to bash it. I hate the C-store, but I'm fine with this.

If it will just stay inside of STO, then it doesn't matter if it's canon or not, nobody will care about it beyond the players of this game, and that would be sad.
i think the galaxy pack will be a ship interior. we already had a galaxy variant, i cant imagine another being done so soon.
But imagine a group of T5 Galaxies all with different Consoles: Saucer Sep, Aux Craft, Work Bee - and all with a different BOFF configuration to make it more Tactical, Science, or Engineering based. That's what they're doing with the Odyssey. It wouldn't surprise me to see it done with the Galaxy too.

The original Odyssey description had a Universal LTC and a Universal Ensign. That was changed before release.
But imagine a group of T5 Galaxies all with different Consoles: Saucer Sep, Aux Craft, Work Bee - and all with a different BOFF configuration to make it more Tactical, Science, or Engineering based. That's what they're doing with the Odyssey. It wouldn't surprise me to see it done with the Galaxy too.
