I'm having the same issue. And before anyone say's its a heating or power issue please don't bother as it's clearly not.

When playing STO (and sometimes World of Tanks) my computer will just switch off, there is no error screen, no BSoD. It just turns off as if someone pulled out the plug. I have recently updated the graphics drivers, so its not that.

I stress tested my GPU for over 30 minutes under 99% load and the system stayed stable, yet the next day after being in the game for a few minutes the system turned off. If it was a heating or power issue surely it would of turned off during the stress test the day before.

I just can't find any credible information on how to resolve this as everyone just jumps to the conclusion that its a heating or power issue which isn't helping. Does anyone have any other insight into what this could be?

This is good news, and bad news. I had exactly this, suddeen complete shutdowns, only in this game, and with no overheating/power problems. I solved it, but I can't be too specific. In the video options, there is a box at the bottom called 'Troubleshooting'. This gives the option to turn various things off.
I deselected a few things here, and the problem stopped, the trouble is, I don't know which one of them was the effective one. so you could try experimenting with that.
(For some reason I think it was the Limit CPU when inactive, but thats just a feeling I can't justify.)

However, I am sure that the problem is in the game coding, not a hardware problem.

I am also having the same problem. I have been playing STO for years and have a powerful computer that can handle anything. It has only been happening within the last few weeks. Same thing (on for a couple of minutes then everything is black because the computer is off). Don't tell me overheating because it is not, or any of those other reasons brought up again and again. I want facts that prove what the problem is, not opinions. I would certainly be happy to see the problem fixed.

Check the power cable is firmly in place.

It could be overheating. Do you have furry pets? Of so a mat of fur can collect between the processors heatsink and the fan. This happened to me and I didn't realise it, this was after a clean. I had to get right in there with a torch and a pair of tweezers.

However if you want facts the only thing I can tell you to do is this: Break out your wallet and take it in to the PC shop for a full inspection and service. There is nothing we can do but offer suggestions in this format.

    You want facts?

    A) Go check your eventviewer to get the POST/BOSD info.
    B) Fact; STO is CPU heavy, go and use Speedfan to see the factual heat your CPU/GPU generates (while you play STO).
    C) Fact; even the fastest, best and strongest computer can succumb to age, dust and consistent overheating.

    Nerf is OP, plz nerf
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.

    WoW - BRainnns....

Over a YEAR between the current 'revive' post and the previous one.

And as for the reviver asking for 'proof' about the PC overheating (or any other issue as to me, it DOES sound like an overheat issue, or a power supply isse); that's UP TO HIM to determine as we on the forums can't see any real-time info from his PC. As a couple of posters above have stated, get one of the freeware tools that can monitor any temp sensors and voltage sensors the PC motherboard and peripherals have (if it's indeed a top on the line PC) like GPUz, CPUz and/or speedfan; and install and run them (with logging enabled) while you play STO and if the issue repeats, open those log files and look at the entries just prior to shutdown. If the temps/voltages AREN'T out of the normal 'under load' range, then the reviver is right and it's not a temp or voltage issue - but at that point, more and deepers diagnostic tools would be needed to track down what the issue is.

Please refrain from necroing threads older than 30 days. If you have a need to post with the same issue and the thread is older than 30 days please start a new thread.
