hmm. interesting, I have always thought they had low pop per server, but well, thats only my thoughts.
meanwhile, I'm having fun in TOR, unlike here. Gated content, buggy content, and some serious issues with the Developers have soured me on STO unfortunately, because I like ST over SW.

The sale of Cryptic Studios had nothing to do with STO or low revenues. Believe it or not it's all because of Dungeons & Dragons.
Star Trek Online was doing so amazing, so well, and making so much revenue that its development team ...
Had no cups in its kitchen and broken computers.
As told to us by the Executive Produce of the game. Before he left the sinking ship for Zynga.
I will be surprised if even WoW hasn't converted to a F2P model sometime in the next 5 years.
It doesn't need to. With the new Diablo testing microtransactions through the Auction House, World of Warcraft can just move to a micropayment system that will support itself and its gold farmer based economy for years to come. They'll shift more into the type of thing EVE has available where your own cash sales will cover the cost of your sub so the game is then "free to play" of a sort. Without ever having to actually go free to play.
The new auction house in the new Diablo is pretty important for Blizzard.

That's called "Working for Atari".
For companies like Cryptic working conditions have nothing to do with profitability either. You're forgetting that Cryptic was no longer an independent studio at that point. One of the worst managed companies in history was sitting on their back sucking every drop of blood they produced.
I passed mty TOR account around a bit, and finally got around to cancelling it. It was fun for a time, and my friends enjoyed it too, but eventually you're just "done" with it. There's nothing to do after a point.
STO keeps me here because I like the chance to constantly upgrade my ship (I don't have as much time as some of you, so this takes time and patience), and it really helps that it's now free. If TOR goes free, maybe I'll give it a shot again - but not before. It's not worth paying for when I'm bored just thinking about playing it.
Gee, an SWToR Dev team member say SWToR isn't loosing subs.
Yep - I trust the word of a SWToR Dev team member as he is 100% unbuiased and has no interest in dispelling rumors of...oh, wait...
My point:
Many players here routinely called into question any statement by DStahl stating either that STO subs were up during STO's 'pay to play' era; an again continue to question any statement that says STO is doing well financially...
YET
When an SWToR Dev (and EA employee) essentially says the same thing RE: SWToR - IE don't believe reports that the game is loosing subs...
That statement is taken as 'proof' that SWToR is doing fine - des[ite the fact that on the SWToR server I pay on, number in Republic Fleet and most instances I'm on with the current characters I'm leveling have less players in them from week to week.
So basically, I find it intersesting that ANY Dev comment from any MMO is used as 'proof' of anything. If EA/BioWare wants to dispell the reports, let them post the current sub number snapshot like they did the last time reports of declining SWToR subscriptions surfaced.
Also its a result of a merge in 2005 of Namco and Bandai.
And another thing, In May 2009 Namco Bandai acquired Atari Europe ... that means Namco Bandai acquired Atarii European distribution network, that was before they sold Cryptic.

I stand corrected as to the spelling of course. And yes, I simplified the explanation a bit. If you look closely you'll notice I may have also streamlined the timeline a little in the name of brevity.

unlike some devs I know they not told me lies before

love to know this place I need to start me a 2ed account
I bought it on Amazon from an affiliate with the Fulfillment Program. I've watched them over the course of a week compete with each other on how low they were willing to push the price down. As a result the price yo-yoed from $39(Amazon's price) to as low as $25 and everywhere in between.
When STO announced they were time gating the Vault, several in my fleet responded by running out and procuring copies of SW:TOR and began leveling characters there to begin secondary fleets for our fleet.
Anyone else noticed a similar feeling or response on their side?

I'll be honest, after that 7 day free trial for previously subscribed players, I went and played and even resubscribed for a month. However, I'm doing it just for the character storylines.
Grouping for Flashpoints and Heroic Missions are nonexistant.
PvP is a major joke (while the zones have potential).
And the Events, while the Rakghoul event dailies were good, they stupidly have it that if you didn't do it from the beginning, you were out of luck in getting everything. Not to mention the stupidity of how they handled the event bosses and the massive griefing that occurred.
But it's a nice "vacation" from STO's boring grinding that they are wanting people to do now. I mean who isn't sick of STFs now and still has tons of accolades yet to unlock? Or having to do 90 Vault runs for that reman shield that has stats that are lacking compared to STF gear? Its this grind that has seriously burnt me out, not even the DOFF missions are fun to do anymore since that's now a grind in itself.
However, I will stay loyal to STO, because as I said TOR is only good for storyline missions. But the game's low population is hurting them so much either they will be forced to go F2P as well or they will shut the doors.

The "vacation" you speak of is why my fleet chose to do as we are doing.
Something we can pop into when we need a brief break.
Oh? Didn't know about a possible buyout. Part of me likes the idea of TOR going F2P since I don't feel like subscribing anymore. But at the same time, given how F2P changed STO, it makes me have to second guess myself.

Somehow, I got a bad feeling about it.
Yeah, I won't be playing SWTOR if the game ever goes F2P. STO turned out exactly how I expected. Text book Perfect World F2P model.

Interesting article, what was more interesting and what was not reported there was that his nose grew longer and longer throughout

Yeah... I'm inclined to agree with Verlaine and Armsman on this one. I'm not sure I consider this a credible source of information.
I stand corrected as to the spelling of course. And yes, I simplified the explanation a bit. If you look closely you'll notice I may have also streamlined the timeline a little in the name of brevity.
and I could say they same for the one they linked
unlike some devs I know they not told me lies before
I fell the same way about sto
love to know this place I need to start me a 2ed account
Really? I see you haven't dealt with EA much prior to SWToR then as EA's rep is WORSE than SOEs in this regard.
As for BioWare's recent misleading statements, just look at the whole "There were NEVER any High Quality textures or AA enabled for SWTOR.."
They WERE there in closed beta. Removed at launch.
lol I have a lot of CNC games and so on so ya I have you hate them like I hate cryptic
and nice cherry picking

I might give it another crack over the weekend.
Nope. I lasted all but 5 minutes before I remembered how TRIBBLE it is.
compared to that STO if barely one step ahead of the game, and still have the smallest of chances left in my books.
Anyone else noticed a similar feeling or response on their side?
I thot it was good and I still trust more in EA then I do cryptic

Right now, I really don't blame you.
EDIT - Changed the word "subs" to players, i hate lack of sleep and typing stuff lol
Millions more players, maybe, but they most likely wouldnt be subbing if the game were F2P.
Somehow, I got a bad feeling about it.
