Add one more to the "change this stupid effect".

Wow...8 replies, all agreeing, in an STO forum.

Isn't that one of the signs of the coming apocolypse?

    The end in nigh.

And yeah...don't understand the rocks myself. I can live with the rocks, but I hate how the smoke obscures my view completely so I can't get the firing arcs lined out right,

I'm sure the final tally will be way more than 8.... /agree too

And yes, what is up with the rocks/boulders? A mining laser hitting a shield facing is not going to create rocks/boulders out of thin air, or rather vacuum of space.

Last night something odd happened when fighting a set of Gorn frigates. A couple of their shots actually hit asteroids instead of me. The effect looked alright in that instance. In fact it made some sense other than them shooting an asteroid while in combat with me. But, my ship isn't an asteroid and doesn't sluff off rocky chunks when hit with weapons. It might if I had an Ablative Armor console equipped on my ship.

Molten, metal chunks maybe, but not rocks

I agree with everything in this thread. It's terrible, please fix or get rid of it.

Or just remove the smoke part, so I can see my ship. But it also seems out of scale - the chunks are thicker than my saucer.

I would somewhat agree with this.

I like the gorn weapon effect but smoke definitely needs to be dialled back some as it leaves you totally blind atm you can't see pretty much anything while being shot.

I wouldnt want it removing entirely though.

The effects are just too big. The entire effect needs to be shrunken down like 50%, and get rid of the flaming rocks erupting from the hull. It looks ridiculous.

No mention in Tribble build 2 patch notes. Guess we are stuck with it for another week.

Im in agreement with this, the effect is too much. I like the effect but on a ship its too much, the amount of debris coming off my cruiser, I though I was dead the first time I got hit with it.

I like the animation of the cutting beams themselves, but I have to agree I dislike the rocks and the excessive effects. We do have shields after all, it should be blocking a good bit of that, and if not we should be seeing panels of the ship coming off, not asteroid rocks. I think every single person (in and out of our fleet) on our ventrilo who saw this effect was completely annoyed by it. The beams however look great, and I think we all agreed upon that. Its fine they're using mining lasers, but lets not have rocks fly out of our ship.

I didn't read all eight pages of this thread, so someone may have raised this question, but why are Gorn warships using mining lasers (designed for cutting) instead of disruptors (designed for...disrupting)? You can hurt someone with a pickaxe, sure, but you can do a lot more damage with a well-balanced and sharpened sword.

This new fx is obnoxious and causes lag - and I already have a new (2009) PC.
And as already pointed out, it obscures a lot of the screen. :(

Please, remove this heat beam effect.
