2409 C-Store Bundle

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Ok, I have to say I love TOS (I grew up watching it in the early 1970's). And I appreciate the fact the devs made it so we can relive that environment inside our ships and out with the new TOS bundle pack on the C-Store.

What I'd really like to see is a 2409 C-Store Bundle of NEW material: New Uniforms, New Bridges, New Shuttles, New Weapons that Scale Up with Character Progression! :D

How about you? ;)

That could be interesting. Granted any new uniforms they make for the 25th Century aren't almost entirely leather, I'd love to see some new designs.

A 29th Century uniform pack would be nice too. Would be even nicer if they added the 29th Century time ships, Aeon and Relativity too.

    Well, the thing is....
All the standard uniforms we get are pretty much the 2409 stuff yer talking about! lol
And all the regular equipment we get is also 2409-specific gear.
Though it would be neat if it was all expanded upon. It seems the era that a vocal amount of people are least interested in is the era that the game actually takes place in!

    ^ This.

For the most part, I just don't feel the 25th Century stuff that Cryptic has made. Too Leathery. Makes me think of anything but Star Trek.

One of the most common themes in Trek Uniforms (if you discount the TWOK Maroon Uniform) is that they had a look of common uniforms. Something you'd wear every day and feel comfortable in, like Army fatigues.

The 25th Century stuff tends to look more like a Dress Uniform, and for the most part, not at all comfortable.

This is why I was stoked to see the AGT uniforms get put into the game. It makes for a semi-canon uniform for myself and my officers, and it actually looks like it would be reasonably comfortable and something you'd wear daily.

Well, the era the game actually takes place in is the same era the All Good Things uniforms are from and players love those. IMO, those should be the Federation Standard Uniform for this era. Alas, we are stuck with a bunch of leather and wool looking stuff instead. Not that I'm complaining, but a departure from the animal skin uniforms would be nice. After all this is the future. We really shouldn't be wearing animal skins of any kind, even if they are synthetic.

THIS is what I'm talking about! More stuff from the proper timeline! Stop the past-TRIBBLE. People paid for this game KNOWING it was set in the future, so let's stop pandering to them and make them grow up! Give them what they paid for, not what they keep crying about.

Every new C-store bridge until the TOS one and the first new C-store ships (skins, before they decided to start charging 5x as much for skins with new stats slapped under them) have all been 2409-native. I think it's time that 2409 got some more basic game (not 'free', because the game itself and continuing access to it are by definition not) love and QoL upgrades.

Yep I agree Blackavaar. What might be interesting is a set of uniforms that would be the precursors of these 29th c. ones.

I had a long running debate with some friends before STO launched, regarding this exact topic.

My personal opinion was that a game set after the "known" eras of Star Trek, wouldn't stand on it's own. The reason being is there is so much love for the ships, characters and uniforms of the various Treks we all grew up with and enjoyed.

I also theorized that if the game were set in the TOS era, it would have been wildly popular, and boomed from day one. And if it had been set in the environs of the 2009 reboot, then the game would have capitalized on the hype and hoopla of the new movie.

Personally, had the game been 100% TOS, from day one, I'd have bought a LTS pre-launch and never ever played another MMO. But that's just me.

LOL, I wonder if the Old Republic has to deal with these problems. (note, I'm not discussing it really, just a moment of sarcasm. Don't want to promote have no desire to play it.)

    100% agreed.
I would love to see more new stuff.
I am really tired to see another old ship, another old uniform and another old weapon and so on.
Now that the TOS Bundle is finally out, maybe there is time now to let this game continue.
    Edit:
Man i didn't realize that this is about a C-Store Pack.....
New Stuff form the STO era should be free of course.

It is the same opposite with me, IF STO would have been a ToS based game i would never bought it.

    Thank you for reading

So you want to pay extra for the stuff that belongs in the game now?

I'm really amazed how much people are willing to pay extra on top of their monthly subscription.

It won't kill the game. The game will do just as well without all the old tech that doesn't belong in this time period.

I guess I should just stick to FPS games where you pay for the box and then the updates are all free, except for the occasional expansion pack which will deliver 20x more stuff for the same price STO charges for a single ship.

Dude, a ship is not content. It's cosmetic fluff. You pay extra for cosmetic fluff.

Did you pay a dime for the new Featured Series? No. Now that was content and a damn sight more awesome than any content additions I've seen for an FPS game in an expansion pack.

It makes perfect sense to me and I'm perfectly willing to continue to pay extra for cosmetics as long as the content still comes for free.

    Edit:
And where you're finding expansion packs for anything that costs under 15 dollars is beyond me. Where are you shopping? How long have these expansions been out?

No, all of the fans of the various Trek shows are likely to quit. I know I certainly wouldn't play this game if it quit being Star Trek and turned into generic sci-fi game with out the ships and uniforms that were actually in Trek.

Just about the only canon 25th century thing in this game are the Dreadnought and the All Good Things uniforms.

Your suggestion would kill this game.

I'll wager that most 'people', actually paid for this game because it said STAR TREK on the box, not because of what particular ERA it would represent...

In fact, I'll also wager that everybody that purchased this game, probably thought that it would contain the particular features/era that they luv the most...

So the "past-TRIBBLE" that you refer too, is probably a very big reason that this game is doing as well as it is...

Anybody wanna risk some Quatloos...?... :D

Not me. I was just expecting a Star Trek MMO with what ever storyline it had. I was actually happy when I found out it wasn't tied to any particular trek offshoot (TNG,ToS,DS9) and was going to follow its own path. The grand storyline is more than a little muddled at the moment but I can understand them creating product for a constantly wanting consumer.
One doesn't stop feeding the cash cow.
I just wish they would throw us some more milk form time to time as they do.

Yeah! I was pretty upset when I figured out that you would have to buy TNG/DS9 outfits.

I mean the future uniforms are alright... but they're not Startrek by and large.

What about those new ships? Those aren't extremely Star Trek. They're missing something and I can't quite put my finger on it, but I know it's there. Something about the saucer in the original series and the way everything comes together as a full picture.

It will never not be Star Trek.
Eventually Cryptic will slowdown or stop making non-old ToS content and focus on newer gadgets and stuff all and the Cstore will grow and the game will not die.

I think all the Klingon Cows are still out in the pasture waiting to get milked...

Either that or somebody left the gate open, and the poor Klink Farmer is trying to round them up as fast as he can to get his product to market... ;)

Eventually, we'll all get a bigger gulp of some nIm and hopefully it will yonmoH... :D

Minor correction, Roach, because I keep see you abbreviating it wrong.

The Original Series is abbreviated TOS, all capitals.

Terms of Service is abbreviated ToS, with a lower case O.

It makes a big difference if a conversation ever included discussion of both.

    Same here....

Though it depends on whether or not I'm flying my TOS Connie... (which I'll probably be doing a lot more for at least a few weeks now) ;)

(I hope we get a 2nd slot for BO's someday..., just so I don't have to keep spending twenty minutes switching them back and forth each time.)

It would be fluff if it were just skins. Some of the ships then got special abilities, which is a little bit above mere fluff. Now we've got the first (apparently) properly scaled interior which is more or less a bug fix, and the interactive objects in said interior are hard to classify, but I would put them as content. Unless the TOS interior is free, in which I retract that.

Ex packs for FPS games max at around $30. So, two ships for $30 or 5-10 new maps, all new vehicles/weapons, new factions, and all the trappings. That doesn't count games like UT2004 and UT3, which did their expacks entirely free.

As for featured episodes, keep in mind that every three and a half months you have paid as much as you would pay on average for an entire FPS game. Do you feel like you have a full game's worth of new content every four months? Would you feel justified if someone sold you a $50 game with just those 4-5 featured episodes? Or do you simply cancel in the intervening months and resub so you only pay $15 for those 4-5 featured episodes?

So that's why I'm surprised whenever someone asks for more stuff to pay for. If the request was merely for more stuff to appear in the game for the sub fee, that would've made more sense to me. But hey, I'm not usually an MMO guy.

Almost every ship with specials is available outside of the c-store that policy changed.

As for shutter doors, they were only added because the canon purists blew a gasket when they saw the leaked pictures and, no, shutter doors aren't content as long as I wear pants on my legs and not on my head. :p

I spent years subscribed to games who had next-to-no content updates and that $15 went to server maintenance. You're not just getting those few missions: you getting access to them in the context of thousands of other players - which one of my arguments for more team content.
