Sorry to barge in here knowing nothing about anything on this matter, but I'm running PW on Ubuntu Linux through Wine and I haven't had any problems with cursors. My mouse cursor seems to be very much static without any animation whatsoever.

You should turn off the "Wake up on LAN" (or similar) function in your BIOS settings. If you have it enabled your computer will turn on when it's contacted via internet.
