Mayhap it's the amount of damage that Ironwood Scarab does. If I recall correctly, is does a higher amount than Venomous Scarab.

I've found it easier to tame the pet after casting the "Ironwood Scarab" skill on the creature you intend to tame. I'm sure it's because of the armor breaking aspect of the spell. I've never failed taming while the beast is "armor broken" but I believe it's just coincidence.

Perhaps the Venomancer community could work on a guide listing all the pets, their initial stats, and maybe (at some point) their ending stats. Of course this would take a large quantity of time and a great deal of trouble. Mayhap Ill make this a personal project...
