Valid points i'm sure, but the problem still existed on my old computer which was Pentium 4. So in terms of hyperthreading it's still irrelevant. My computer hardly has anything running in the background, only the usual. This isn't the issue.

Nothing that would affect the performance of any games. In any case it's been highlighted that this is a problem for many people and not just a unique case, therefore what may or may not be running in the background is somewhat irrelevant in this case.
