And yet those who glitched FCC are given a slap on the wrist.
Meanwhile this changes nothing aside from aesthetics. Sad, isn't it?0 -

Ridiculous... Any GM setting such punishment for a stupid little rule like this should be fired permanently... Just when we thought GM's had become more understanding and easygoing and such **** like this happens... Seriously GM's... Either be a tiran or be easygoing and turn a blank eye to small stuff like this... But you can't be both so choose already... Don't let ppl doing a more serious crime get away with it while ppl doing minor offences get punished in such brutal way... b:surrender[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Now you see why some people were getting mad at the way the FCC glitch was handled? Someone who did something so trivial as to change their eyes was perma-banned. Meanwhile, a glitch that was abused for months on end.... the players that abused it were let go without even a warning or consequence.
Chinese servers, EU servers, EVERY OTHER DAMN SERVER BUT THE AMERICAN ONES are allowed to .ini edit. Why not us? Give us a real damn reason other than "we b 2 lazy 2 do da jobz we git paidz 4". You >>just<< let glitch abusing players get away with NO PUNISHMENT, yet someone who does something little, like change their eyes, gets perma-banned? Are you f@#%ing serious PWE?
Was your friend an F2P player? If not, they were probably making an example of him. He probably hasn't cash shopped enough to be let off with a good wrist slapping.

I think the goon glitch was handled good enough... But there is no freaking excuse to perma-ban someone for a minor offence like this... Words can't express how disappointed I am right now...
What happened to smaller bans as a warning first? Shouldn't it be like 1st. 2-day ban, 2nd. 7-day ban, and so on until the player had enough warnings? The perma-ban hammer isn't a toy... It's a tool that should be used in really serious offences or if nothing else works... By using this tool you'll ban someone forever... Meaning you can't come back ever... Not even after 50 years... Honestly PWE should immediately fire that person who instantly used the perma-ban for abusing it...
And I know right... This rule is bullcrap... Every other version on this earth is allowed to .ini edit... Except ours... Heck even the Euro-servers of our version are allowed to... I really don't see how it can harm to allow it already... Obviously all the other versions/servers out these also never had problems with it being allowed...
And I never said I was against punishing the glitches... I'm against the use of the perma-ban hammer for offences like that even if it's abusing a glitch to lvl up faster... It is kinda permanent you know... b:cute[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Bump, because I'd rather see this on top over some QQ baby's "amagad we need more items in the game than what we already haveQQQQQQQQ."
:T Seriously, I'm getting tired of people feeling obligated to post **** about super items, then go to cry in their bags of money because they don't have super items that other versions might have. Admins might oblige them, but what about the f2p player who gets banned for changing a small feature on their character?
Wow I felt like that was a save an endangered species advertisement.

86... pages....
Finally... finished....
*wheeze*
So, after going through every page of this thread, I can say I do agree the ability to customize your character with any hairstyles, hair textures, eye textures, hair, eye, and skin colors, and perhaps also facial hair on Tideborn (which I kinda felt was intentional considering they're... fish, which aren't exactly known for growing hair aside from a few with whiskers...) would be a great thing to have in the game. I'd also be for extreme scaling of proportions, if not for the actual potential to abuse that.
Now, on PWI's side, it's not as simple as a rule change.
There's got to be boundaries, of course, and they have to actually think about where to set them and in what way. There's different kinds of things to consider when making said boundaries. Here's a couple that I can think of at the moment.
Gameplay - The obvious limit would be the ability to scale body proportions in extreme amounts.
A huge, giant character would probably not do that much to give you an advantage, though it might make it more difficult to click behind you if you're giant. Tab makes that less of a problem, but it still could be an issue.
The more abusive one would be making a skinny, almost invisible, wire-looking character. I don't know that it'd make a character more difficult to click since I've not had any experience with that. However, there are merits to the argument that it'd make your character less noticeable, and more likely that you could go and quickly gank someone before you're seen.
Proportion edit limits would be necessary to prevent these extremes.
Lore - Okay, so.. PWI isn't exactly that strict staying within its lore, but it's still something to consider.
Now, let's say we have everyone having all the hairstyles, eyes, colors, textures... everything like that available to everyone. It allows creativity, but it's kinda odd seeing a brand new Venomancer with shells all through her hair. Same for a female Assassin just starting out with butterflies all in her hair. It's just not consistent and makes it very lore-unfriendly. Plus, it doesn't exactly seem that reasonable to have all the options available immediately from the start.
Instead, using a Makeover Scroll should be used to make these extra styles available. If the Advanced Makeover Scroll was to ever be released, that would allow absolutely full freedom and perhaps even a few extra options would be added.
Now, I've been playing around with an idea in my head to keep it fairly lore-friendly, but still making the options available to everyone.
It'd be to make everything (or most everything, if there's ever an Advanced Makeover Scroll) available with a Makeover Scroll, but to use the race-specific styles, you have to visit the makeover NPC in the racial major cities to be able to use their race-specific hairstyles. So, if you're a Cleric wanting to use a Tideborn-specific hairstyle, you would have to visit the makeover NPC in Raging Tides to be able to get it. You like that bandana that male Humans have, but you're a Seeker? You'd have to visit Etherblade and get one custom-made to fit that head of yours.
Perhaps also make lipstick, eyeshadow, and other various customizations available via their respective races' major cites.
This would make all the options available to everyone, while still limiting it in a lore-friendly way. That, and it's a potential coin-sink due to people teleporting everywhere, as well as probably getting more sales from the Cash Shop. Makeover Scrolls can be gotten with Dragon Points, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't get any more actual sales. Plus, if it were to be added in the game, an Advanced Makeover Scroll would probably be in the Cash Shop as well and bring in a much larger number of buyers.
Difficulty in implementing them - Ideally, the different choices and icons would be made added to the customization UI. I won't claim to know the actual process involved, but it seems like it'd mostly just going into the game code, and adding the new hair styles, textures, eye textures, etc.. to the lists.
Editing the files would be easier, but the changes to the rules on what is or isn't allowed should be clear and concise, and enforce those rules. It's a little difficult to say "You can edit these files and only these sections of these files, but leave all those other files." and expect everyone to go along with them, especially with a very inconsistent history of how offenders are dealt with.
Overall, I'm all for making the styles and textures available to everyone, but the boundaries and limits to implement this to being a possibility need to be thought out and to make sure these rules are followed.
Truthfully, I'd be okay with them just enforcing the rule, as well. Just as long as it's enforced evenly toward everyone, that's all I'd want.
Still, if nothing else, at least sharing the hair textures of all the races with each other would be great. It'd pretty much instantly upgrade the older races, while giving the newer ones a lot more interesting textures (like the rainbow streaks the original races have). Maybe the eyes as well, I dunno. That probably wouldn't be too extreme.
I really hope this is actually clear and legible. I'm a bit.. tired right now and I'm probably gonna go to sleep shortly. xD0 -

@Blue-fonted, Hero-type person:
I'm fine with that, honestly. Hell, even just letting us change the eyes is good for me...
What gets me is why DO we have to set boundaries or even have this rule in the first place? If you looked really closely, you'll notice that it is mentioned that every other server, except the US ones, is allowed to do this freely, without restraints. That is why it is also mentioned that all is required is a simple rule change. People would like to change their tail fur color or put hair on their barbarians. I honestly think people's creativity should not be limited to what preset hair or eye texture limitations we currently have. I could understand file hacking to gain a different type of advantage(like some how getting extra coin, or speed hacks. I don't understand how that stuff works...), but to change your characters appearance? Come on...
That being said, thank you for taking the time out to read this thread and post your part. I don't mean to discourage you, or seem like I don't agree with any of your points.

They decided the rule was goofy to keep around, so they dropped it. With this, they also acknowledged that while they may condone it, they can't and won't be held responsible for anything mishaps a player may come across for having messed around with these files.
However, that can't be said about the Chinese servers as they've been around from the start. So, the only explanation is because...
The Chinese servers are Chinese! They're communist! Anything they do is wrong!! COOOOMMMMMMMMUUUUNIIISSSMMMM!!! /sarcasm b:sweat
But seriously, like the European servers, they probably realized it was a goofy rule to have, and removed it.
So, why shouldn't the American serversallow it when every other region does?
We're not them. We've had this rule from the start. We don't need to listen or do anything other socialist, communist countries do because we're America and we're the best and.. uh... AMURICA!!! b:irritated
Satire aside, "Because we've had it from the start and we're not everyone else" are about all I can really come up, though the whole "Messing with files could **** up your game or give an unfair advantage" thing is perhaps part of it as well. Sure, it's only the character customization files, but allowing this could make someone think they can mess with all the other files or whatever....
They're not good reasons, but unfortunately, they're still reasons.Mimiroppu - Heavens Tear wrote: »People would like to change their tail fur color or put hair on their barbarians. However, I don't agree that we should be able to access them from the start, oddly enough.
If nothing else, something like having to reach Archosaur/Level... 20 or so before you can get the hairstyles from the other races. Maybe just keep the character creation options the same, and add everything to the list of available options to only the Makeover NPC.Mimiroppu - Heavens Tear wrote: »That being said, thank you for taking the time out to read this thread and post your part. For now, I'm hoping that it'll finally be allowed in some way or another. I think AMURICA is being too unwilling to change and adapt, and needs to learn something from all the "socialist, communist" countries that are moving forward.0 -

The ironic thing is Frankie deemed editing client to be able to use the old UI as legal, and yet held to the "editing game files has always been bannable" excuse in this case.
I dont even think a rule change is due at this point in time. EVERYONE does it anyway >.>0 -
So true. I've yet to have been in a random squad the past few weeks where at least one person hadn't done some form of INI edit on their characters.0

What ever people seem to think character customization INI gives you a big advantage or Disadvantage when in reality It only affects Appearence not Functionality! What I am saying is INI Character Customization Does Not Give Any Sort Of Advantage What So Ever!0

Apparently, they're willing to PERMANENTLY ban them for having EG eyes. Meanwhile, the people who gooned got away free~
All it takes is one ****. Someone who has no life and has nothing better to do than ruin someone else's game play. I'm sure if there was a glitch to get tons of gold or coin, said **** wouldn't report a word (and he probably wouldn't get banned, either, since it's the developer's fault for not fixing it.).
We can't really blame Frankie. He's just the poor, unfortunate sucker who signed on to be the representative for PWE. I don't think it said in his job description that he had to "**** with the player base as much as possible, but not so much that PWE doesn't make money", lol.0 -

It's amazing how this rule is so heavily enforced to the point where players are getting perma bans. Especially when I was browsing the official site & found: http://pwi.perfectworld.com/gameinfo/class
I looked at all of the older classes & surprise, surprise. All flaunting .ini edited hairstyles. Wtf? It's like you guys are rubbing it in our faces. Pff, don't get me started on that barb preset.
