In all but one category where it ties for survivability, the Armored Bear takes lead. It also comes with Threaten and Lvl 5 Tough making it a better value. The usefulness of this style of lure pet also increases a lot at lvl 80+.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0 -
Hmm, interesting. I had thought the cub was a lower leveled version of an armored bear. That changes things a bit.0

the bears are not relate to eachother... The growth curve for both is totaly different. The armored bear will actualy surpass the cub in all aspects later on.Too often we loose sight of life's simple pleasures. Solandri - Heavens Tear wrote: »Tweakz, I stand by my position that the kowlin's red light show makes for quicker and more accurate unsummons. The studies I've read on visual perception and reaction time support this position. It's the reason red is the predominant color chosen for warning lights (like car brake lights).
It has nothing to do with being "disadvantaged". One could make an identical argument that someone who advocates a ranged pet is also "disadvantaged" by having poor reaction time, and thus needs the extra time provided by the ranged pet. But I have never claimed that because I don't believe either to be true.
The kowlin gives you a better alert when to unsummon. The ranged pet gives you more time to unsummon. Which you prefer depends on the person playing. Neither is inherently better than the other.
As for my statement about you insisting that your way and only your way is the right way, I think most people would agree that's an accurate assessment of your posting style and why it is annoying. It wasn't meant as an insult or mud-slinging. It was merely an observation. If I could amend it, I would add that you also tend to take things stated by a person, and try to recast it in the most derogatory way possible (like turning my statement that I find unsummons easier to time with the red lights, into me being "handicapped" with a small screen and poor vision). If that isn't your intent, then I would suggest you reappraise your writing style, because it's certainly the way you come across.
It's not provable. I could argue that having cuddly pets keeps people alive longer, and show studies that support it. I've admitted, apologized, and thanked when I was shown wrong. You on the other hand are what you say I am.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0 -
Actually... according to my own studies, without using kowlin skills on a lure (and any pet for that matter) the attacks are much quicker. I lure wurlord successfully without using my kowlins skills and am able to stow it and still have time to use feral concentration before he gets to the party. I couldn't do that with kowlin skills turned on. There would be plenty of pet deaths, possibly my death, or the cleric death (in case the cleric BBed too soon) if I used skills because the timing was way different._Jaysun_'s Wife

Personally i don't like kowlin for about the same price as a kowlin u could lvl a Lunar lupin and pay to upgrade its flesh ream and then u'll have lvl 5 howl which will raise ur mag. attack0

It's not necroed since it hasn't had a reply in less than a week. Necro is something from a month ago. Don't have a tizzy.
Kowlin owns. Second Nix and doesn't get stuck in the ground or get reset (easily).0 -

I will not use a weapon when I'm lvl 80 and will use a cuddly bunny as a tank. Nothing can dissuade me.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0 -
Well, a guildmate tamed one for me. Yay!
The kowlin is a buzzsaw, it really is. Enough so that using it outdoors I had to change my style when using it. Its ability to run halfway across the map and take something down before your venomous arrives is frankly incredible. The person calling it a land-nix isn't exaggerating much. I'd love to slap claw on this beastie.
To use it most effectively, though, that means you attack one mob whist it takes out a second, retarget, heal and do it again. Difficult to find places where I can safely do that. One interesting such place is the cube of fate - which is a somewhat specialised use, but both the mouse bashing and the mysterious chips rooms become a lot easier with a pet that fast.
(Admittedly, the mouse bashing room is only useful to level the pet, but I can keep almost half the room clear where a herc only lets you control a corner. Gives you an idea of the speed difference possible when grinding on easy mobs)
Thinking about it, It's probably worth my while seeing whether the speed increase makes it worth grinding coin on lower mobs rather than AOEing cougarets with the herc.
For luring, I've got to agree that the red circle makes timing your recall a lot easier than many pets. (The eldergolth's big windup is also usually easy to see)
But it's very very fragile. Whilst its speed lets it run past some mobs, if you get it wrong it will usually die. And the things I'm saying it is great at killing, lets be frank, they're not exactly elite-mobs ten levels above me.
I do think that as a secondary DD pet it will do VERY nicely. It's got two nice attack skills and room for one of the debuffs.
As a tank? Bad plan. When grinding? Probably not a great one (lots of risk for a very marginal speed increase most of the time)
But, definite potential for damage dealing. In some places I go from 2-shotting quest mobs to 1-shotting them. And it's not even up to my level yet.
And, to go back to weaponless and fuzzy-bunnies? It looks awesome.0 -
hmmm...i usually sell kowlins with 500k,but,i don't think you must pay 1 mil. for a pet,try to catch one or speak with a friend that sell kowlins(maybe she'll sell u a cheaper kowlin, idk 50-150k)or she can give u one for free.Any statement of yours should I consider invalid unless you add ''turtle'' among your lines b:mischievous0
