Chat Filter Issue - Request for Tickets from Affected Users

Hey all,

The new chat filter that was implemented on the 22nd of June had some serious issues - a lot of innocuous words got censored, and even worse, some players ended up having part of their names starred out, making it impossible for them to function in various ways, one of which being the ability to even receive private messages.

We would like to extend our apologies for this mishap, and we wanted to ask those of you whose names have been censored in this way to contact us via the ticket system so that we can offer you compensation.

Update 7-15-11:

Compensation will be announced next week.

Tuesday July 19th is the the final day you can send in a ticket about your name being censored.

Also, on a side note, if your name violated the ToS to begin with (like for being a cuss word or racial slur) and got censored out, please do not expect to receive compensation.

Please follow these guidelines to correctly put yourself on the Customer Service department's list.

1. This ticket must be submitted on or after July 5th. Even if you've already submitted a ticket about this, you'll need to make a new one at that time. This will make it much easier for the GMs to be able to verify everyone.

2. The ticket needs to be titled "Censored Name Compensation"

3. All or part of your character's name must be censored in-game.

4. Your character has to have been created before this new filter went into effect. This means before June 22nd, 2011.

5. You must include a screen shot of your character's chat box after you've said something. Please don't crop any of the image - leave it full-size.

Note: This issue may be fixed on the night of the 5th, so please take your screen shot now while you can.

6. In your ticket please include your:

a. Account Name
b. Character Name
c. Server

And again, remember, do not send in this ticket until July 5th!

Sorry about having so many instructions - we're just trying to streamline the process as much as possible to be able to help everyone affected as efficiently as possible.

Update: 7-22-11

It is now official - users whose characters' names were censored will be sent:

- 1x Demon Sage Card (can be turned in for 50 Event Gold, which can be spent in the Event Boutique)

- 1x Crimson Fox (See image here

Affected users had to have submitted a Support Ticket that followed the guidelines above to be eligible to be sent this compensation.

These items will be sent out within the next 2 weeks.

Too little, too late Frankie.

All the compensation in the world won't be able to give these players their potential time and hard work of two weeks back. (including 11 days of 2x exp/drops/spirit) A 5aps user could have farmed well over 500m worth of stuff in 11 days w/ a perma squad. Compensation or not, good luck at satisfying the player base. You'll need it. Anyone that was unable to play for two weeks is probably long gone from this game, and into another MMORPG by now. Gratz.

You should spam some system messages a few times in game as well. Like maybe 5% of the playerbase actually reads the forums. You can even recognize some peoples names and general attitudes...

Now lets see how is it i cannot talk about my own nationality as part of it is of Japanese origin and not talk about the problems of Japan and its struggling economy and the issues with the nuclear reactors n everything, i cannot be playful with my online mate with clever words as they get *'d out and all the peeps trying to sell items in world chat and you cannot contact them cause half their name or 3 letters are *'d out and several of the mobs in the game have * in their names now whats with that i went looking for a mob had to kill 5 different similar ones to find the right one then just based color of the critter to get my kill count to finish the quest. Now for rude named monster [Noxious Philestine]its for cultivation and nobody found that rude or odd they have a biblical slur in the game for a monsters name quite interesting. oh dont forget to fix the chat filter give us an on/off button for the chat screen for crying out loud for the censor what happened to the game i once was willing to spend $100 a week on and now wouldnt risk putting my cash into a game where i may not be able to do anything with my character ( gone after the 7 day pre-delete requisite now) but i was able to move everything from it to my sin so i can use the items just a lvl 90 barb became useless when nobody knew your name or could pm you for trade or request to join a squad or even running in a TW event which a barb is highly requested for the cata's

Why do people have to get compensation every time a hiccup happens? The game's name might be Perfect World but the programming world is far from perfect, especially for this game.

I don't care for any compensation just fix it already and stop **** **** up.

It'll be a bunch of Hyper Stones (read: 5~10), to 'make up for the EXP they lost' because they couldn't participate in the 2x event. Calling it now. b:laugh

On a more serious note...glad to see people MIGHT actually see some compensation for this idiocy (I won't hold my breath, and god only knows how long it'll actually take if it happens at all), but I have to wonder why such measures weren't taken at the same time of BEFORE it was announced that this weeks maintenance was going to be skipped. You know...preemptive damage control instead of letting things explode and potentially costing the company way more than it possibly may or may not have lost otherwise. >.>

I'd have thought they'd have some manner to query their database of users?

Perhaps something along the lines of filtering for the added censor words against accounts / characters who have logged in since the update. That would give them an idea how many have been affected by the change rather than asking people to submit tickets to their system.

And now you should put this as a system message in-game, because you *know* that probably at least half if not 3/4 of the people with affected names don't use the forums. I actually saw someone with a filtered name talking in common chat about not using the forums the other day; he would have no idea to do this. By setting it up this way, most of them will miss out on whatever this probably lame "compensation" might be. And they deserve something for the way they have been treated.

Its probably due to the holiday, though. I'm throwing a guess here - they won't be able to handle the tickets before it.

My guess is a perfect stone, like what they gave everyone for purchasing packs. Idk thats what they give cashshoppers... God knows what theyre going to give f2p players that are making them do work... Might just delete the accounts and pretend nothing ever happened. Who knows...

^ 100% this...Compensation for every stupid thing is out of control now and lame. No wonder most of the player base is super lazy.

IF things were done correctly and with some caution/semi-testing this would not be an issue. FFS...Some of these "errors" are so stupid that most of the player base could have probably fixed or prevented the issue(s) within a few hours/a day. b:sweat

Like minor server downtimes or ISP hiccups? Agreed to that. In this case however, affected players have been getting shafted for going on two weeks now, for an issue that ought to have been resolved overnight. I'd say PWE owes them something.

God yes. Why they even 'have' a testing server is beyond me, it's clearly not helping them any.
