If some stranger said "you're ****" out of the blue, I think most of the straight male population would feel at least a little bit insulted.

That, my friend, is what we term 'institutationalised homophobia'. Just using your post as an example, nothing else intended.

Sorry, but there have been studies that have showed that the largest sexuality is bisexuals, not straight. So by that sense I'd say that everyone is bisexual, until proven otherwise.

But that doesn't change the fact that most people assume you're straight. What you think doesn't always correspond with reality.

I for one would be far more offended if someone called me a Honda than if someone called me ****. Then again, I actually am bi so what do I know. Also, I claim, 'you're a ****ing mailbox'

you are a honda. and not just any honda, a honda that hobos sleep in and human **** are all on the floor and seats.

oh and people with various STDs had sex in the back seat numerous times in said honda.

    now its an insult.

But the word "****" has taken on different meanings now a days. It doesn't only refer to someone who's homosexual.

there is also a study that showed that 99% of US population is actualy poo covered monkeys in a human costume. there is a study out there to say whatever you want to say... but that doesn't change the fact that being called **** out of the blue is considered an insult by the general population. i even know **** who would be insulted by randoms monkeys calling them ****. its not the actual defination of the word... its the context and tone of useage.

Okay lets put it this way. Being called **** itself is not insulting perhaps it could be that fact that someone could consider another ****.
If i were to call a woman with manly qualities a man on accident, am i a sexist? No and i would not blame her for being insulted.

To the OP: what exactly are you going at?
I think if your going to take such a stance against homophobia, attempting to destroy a forum mods character is pretty pathetic. b:bye

Taking quotes out of context is quite insulting at best. That was a responce to a person saying that concider people being straight because majority of people was straight. Not a responce to the claims of being called **** was insulting.

If you want my responce on that topic, then read my earlier post, here:
I call dibs on being called a Maserati as an insult. ^_^

On topic, I'm not entirely sure if being called a ****, being a lie is the insulting part. Afterall, Grim could be **** and it'd still be seen as an insult afterall. All it would do at that point would allow Grim to shoot it back with "Yeah, so?" afterall.

No, calling someone **** is insulting because of the negative burden the term carries from history. Negative burden is the reason why calling people "******s" is seen as so offensive today, or "*******". It doesn't matter if it's true or not. It does matter however on the intent in which it is said.

Edit: See, PWI won't even allow me to mention the words in a legit context. That's what negative burden brings.

Most traditional cultures associate homosexuality with emasculation or lack of virility, as a man with such orientation would have been deemed unfit to fulfill the role of father. Unfortunately this is a cultural vestige that continues to burden contemporary societies and which seems particularly persistent in fringe subcultural settings such as those of kids and teenagers. Whether it is meant as an insult or not certainly depends on context, and even **** men may use it in a sense that conveys a perceived effeminate quality as being negative, itself an example of misogyny.

One could say, for instance, "this thread is ****" implying disaproval.

If you're doing what you're doing, OP, please get your facts straight.

It was stated in this thread that it is the lie that is an insult. (I hate lies that are uncalled for.)

ALSO, Grim was NOT the first to see it as an insult. Please DO CHECK THE THREAD AGAIN. It was another MOD (Shelly) that said so. If you're talking about homophobia, why choose the name of the 2nd MOD instead of the 1st? PERSONAL GRUDGE or what???

logic + common sense people, use it.

What you sprout is not "logic + common sense", you take a far too simplified view, which can probably be attributed to lack of life experience and simple world views.

Take for example, provocation or the **** panic defence, there is a all array of factors to consider. Of course you only have a split second to react, but how you react in that split second speaks volumes - not just about whether you, yourself is **** or not.

The most amiable response for a heterosexual referred to as homosexual is to thank the informant for their incorrect deduction and, if it seems appropriate, to pleasantly tell them that they are mistaken.

Or just say I'm not, end of story. Who would actually "thank the informant for their incorrect deduction"? Are you for real?

calling someone "****" when they are actually straight is a insult no matter how you cut it. dont beleive me? try calling your straight dad/teacher/boss/etc **** and watch what happens to you.

you can over complicate it all you want, when it comes down to it its still an insult depending on the person that is receiving it. in this case, if the person is **** and proud to be **** he will not take it as a insult. if he is straight then he will take it as a insult. communication 101. trying to say its not an insult like some people in this thread is doing to nitpick at grim is just ****

thats like if i was to call someone a ***** then there argument would be ***** means female dog and is not insulting to most people. well guess what, calling someone a ***** is still a ****ing insult. it doesnt matter if they take offense to it or not. if i say a word to directly insult someone even if the original definition isnt meant as a insult, its still a damn insult.

    Okay, let's calm down now.
First of all - yes I get insulted when someone calls me a '****'. It might be weird for some of you, but it's normal since we are living in different countries with different cultures and different public behavior.
Second - I`m not a **** if this will help. I`m heterosexual and I do have a girlfriend.
Third - The OP of that "Grim is ****" thread didn't mean to insult me. And I`m 105 % sure. He just had a little joke. Why am I sure ? Because I know the OP and we are friends for like 15 years already. In real life, yes I do have a real life, we are making such jokes to each other. Just like we are typing stupid things on our walls when someone of us forgets his facebook account logged b:chuckle
Fourth - He wont come back to the forums again. He is not the type of people who love browsing forums and such. His English is really bad and he would understand only like 5 % of the posts in the forums.
Fifth - He decided to come in the forums just because he found out that I became a mod. I was wondering why he was smiling so much when I saw him today. Well 30 minutes later when I got on the forums I found out why lol.

Not necessarily. You might have some group pressure. If someone calls you **** when there are others around... well you get my point.

    Stupid reason anyway.
