Wow, this is all pretty shocking. It seems that more people are convinced that nothing is going to happen, so it's like the mass hysteria has flipped...

Instead of people freaking out about something "big" happening, they're more or less thinking everyone else is freaking and that it's pointless, which would lead to nobody really freaking out.

But that's all flawed logic there, lol. I'm kinda impressed. =] This thread may even push my essay into a new angle, lol.

I'm honestly not sure how the 2012 BS was started but it was known long before anyone started freaking out about it. No one made a big deal about it at the time because, well, it wasn't (and isn't) a big deal.

Well, I don't think the world is going to end, but I think something "big" will happen. No, I'm not talking about a natural disaster or any super war. I'm thinking that this time period in history involves great changes in society that will result positive in the end. In the coming years we might face dificult moment and changes, but I have faith that everything will turn for the better and society as a whole will be in another age of discovery and prosperity. Some of you have stated already that the Mayan calendar ending is not the end, because its not.

Think of it this way, the "real life server" is "resetting" these years and another cycle in the calendar will start. When the PWI servers reset you dont lose everything and the server goes blank, the npcs and dailies just reset and another server day starts with new opportunities.

As for the movie 2012, I liked it, good effects and nice plot, but a bit too mushed up. I loled when I saw that every possible natural disaster, even cosmic ones, happened.

Edit: The thing is that movies, books and all this "end of the world 2012" is hitting the media these recent years is because as soon as the clock hits January 1, 2013 all those "end of the world" movies and are going to go out of style.

It's a pretty good movie lol, puts you on a emotional roller coaster imo. I laughed, I cried, I o_O'd, wtf, raged, cried some more, etc etc lol.

Some of the things that happened on the movie seem really outrageous and I think nearly impossible, but it makes you think a bit. :P

But yeah. Probably the reason why you don't see the people who believe 2012 is the end posting here is probably because they don't want/afraid to express opinion to due to the dramatic difference in those who believe it's a bunch of BS as I'm sure they know PW forums is pretty good (or bad in this case) when it comes to opinions and people raging when it comes to disagreements. xD If that made sense.

The calender is finished. It just restarts from the beginning once it reaches the end.

There was also that 666 one and as for the other ones. It is basically like a superstition in my opinion. Sure we can predict the weather but that's it. We still need a groundhog to find out if we have an extra 6 weeks of winter for crying out loud! A calendar made by ancient peoples (Mayan I believe) that ends on the 2012. It is highly unreasonable to say that the world ends. If they weren't defeated by the white boys (aka Spainards), they would see that their prediction was wrong. Sure they basically predicted their downfall, but there are things as lucky guesses. Plus, that was only a few years ahead and not a whole ~1000 years.

Plus if it becomes true then well, my bad. I was wrong. We'll see when we'll see. But I highly doubt it.

The Mayans learned from the Israelites, which in turn possibly brought a bit of the Jesus rumor onboard. In that, the Bible does tell of an anti-christ that will come from the east. As the destruction of the anti-christ goes on, the real Christ will take his place on earth and destroy the anti-christ. So the Mayans could predict the anti-christ's coming, which would be a destruction factor, however, there will be people who are saved in Christ's coming back. Christ's coming back indicates salvation, which in turn would still save people which in turn would not destroy the world persai. But in the bible there is also the end of the world. So the calendar may be correct or not. You really have to look in depth with this.

Signs have been occuring one after the other, people are truly afraid, and the governments and politicians are at a loss for what to do about all of the problems. Yet at the same time multitudes are saying that everything has gone on as it always has. But this is not true, even the director of FEMA, James Lee Witt, has said that weather related disasters have been increasing.

You can group this with the natural disasters happening now and this year is 2 years away from the so called happening. It can go either way, but I still am on my "no" for now. Maybe closer to the time, I'll see a sign or something and change my mind.

you people awe on this whole 2012 thing, but did you know that since the beginning of time, since the "big bang" the universe has been expanding at an increasingly faster rate. So what? you might say. Well consider this: every law of physics dictates that everything eventually will be taken over and drawn together by a force known as gravity. So theoretically speaking, all that "space dust" that formed our planet and many like it, formed the stars and galaxies would eventually move slower and slower away from the center of this "big bang" eventually coming to a stop and start to come back to point of origin. But NO! Not only are all the galaxies and such moving away from the center (yes the center of said "big bang" has been tracked down, dont ask me how, would fill up half the forum allocated memory server space ~_~) they are moving away from the center moving faster and faster! Your argument might be that "well maybe the explosion is still going on" If youve ever seen an explosion is slow motion here on earth and in 0 g, you will notice that the debris coming away from the explosion moves faster closer to the center, slowing down as it loses energy ( or in 0 g just keeps going at the same speed >.>). Our universe however is getting bigger and is doing it faster and faster every moment that has passed. it does not make any friggin sense! O.o

That's what I thought initially until I learned that the Mayans believed the end would come. The people studied the stars and even predicted their own downfall before the Europeans came to their location and defeated them.

Also here's another passage of the Bible&Explanation:

In my essay, I'm trying not to delve too much into the Religious aspect because I don't really want people coming at me with pitchforks and tar. I'm basically just going to mention that "here is what this religion says about the doomsday, and this is what I think about what they say" rather than discrediting the religion itself. What you've added, Kit, will definitely help keep the focus of that. b:cute

No prob. The religion can be one point of the paper. The other pont could possibly be on the Mayan's "good prediction" of their own defeat. As for your last point in your paper, I can't say as of yet what it could be.

Oh and you can use this as a refrence to the religion part. It can be grouped with "the sea and the waves roaring": http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35706695/ns/travel-news/?GT1=43001 But this could just be "coinscidence" because they say there are high waves at least once or twice in a year.

Definite no, at least where Mother Nature is concerned. If anything does happen on that day, it will most likely be a publicity stunt. Kind of ironic coming from a Mormon who believes in the Second Coming of Christ, huh? Well, we believe that no one, not even the angels in heaven, know exactly when it will happen, except God himself.

I'm just gathering a statistic of what you guys predict; that it will end or won't end on said date. How it ends is irrelevant to the poll, but the ideas that you provide are very interesting to me.

But I understand where you're coming from. Those are very ancient people indeed, so how would they know centuries before when the word was gonna end? That's the superstition part I think that makes up all the hype - and what the people will pass on to each other when sharing a religion's beliefs.

But from these results so far, there isn't a hype in the general public, which would make a wicked turn in my essay. b:cute
