I'm not sexist, or paranoid... but I do always scratch my head and wonder about someone who plays a gender opposite class when both a male and female are able to be chosen, especially when they have girly names...

Some guys just like to have female chars, and somewhere deep inside them, I wonder if they do fancy being approached and hit on by other guys. It just makes sense. ijstbhimolol

I have a female cleric, but that character is pretty much purely for the lulz and was created when my gf made a male character (also for lulz). I make it obvious pretty fast if anyone get's the impression I'm not a guy.

What really scares me is the amount of female characters who start hitting on me who are really guys. Guys actually create female characters and start flirting with what they assume to be girls. Without letting them know they're a guy. Mebbe they don't realise they're doing it. Either way, a female toon isn't exactly the best chick-magnet O_o

lol... the reason I don't play my veno is because I get sick of guys hitting on me. Oh well, having a male pet tamer class would be nice and I'd probably level one up, but it ain't gonna happen.
I post in forums. This one and others. That's why I post.

I never get hit on by anyone b:surrender its not fair! Id love to tell em off for trying. Well I will take that back I have had one or two pm me to tell me i created a beautiful charater. I take it as a compliment and they never say anything else along that lines.
for the ones who get hit on what does your charater look like? what clothes do you dress them in ect I think that tends to draw attention when you have the slider out to >>>> there on the **** and tramp wear on. normally when i see them two things together I just assume the person is male behind the screen anyways b:chuckle

From what i know pw is made after a book :) So classes mirror that book. Anyway someone said that guys playing female characters are weird and denial is the first step of this, shoudl think twice, this is a game and the characters we play are just avatars, if you mirror yourself too much in it maybe should quit MMOs, obviously have a problem separating this fantasy world from the real one.

And guys hitting on venos are just stupid kids, hitting on anyone in a virtual world, w/o even seeing a picture of that person is a risk you have to take and from my point of view is rather dumb, but if it works for others fine with me.

And this isn;t the first and wont be the last game with gender locked characters. In fact most pet classes in other games are females while thanks are usually males. Maybe has something to do with female good at manipulating (men and pet, or whatever for some they seem to be the same) or at least this perception.

Asian games follow a theme, I stick to these games cause o like this theme. You can play a veno and not be too girly, but femine enough for the class.

    I tried Veno.

    Felt like a poof.

I think men who play female characters have something weird goin' on in their head, not the full bob, if you know what I mean.
No, feeling **** is where things are wrong in someone's head. I play as female characters so I don't get bothered by people, and it's alot easier to blow off guys then girls hitting on you. I've pretty much had my fill of the whole romantic scenes all over. I came to PWI to PLAY a MMO. not to be suckered into some romance story.

Everyone has their reasons. and no one has any reason to judge.
I'm a guy, not a woman, that is all

Stage 1 of this is denial.

I think men who are so uncomfortable with their own sexuality that they feel weird playing a female character in a GAME... need to see a psychiatrist for their obvious gender related fear and conflict issues.

This is a fantasy-themed game. Those who don't understand this and feel a male has to play a male pixel character are the ones with something weird going on in their own head, or, as mentioned in a previous post, perhaps have an insecurity problem. This should be considered before the pseudo-psycholobabble.

it's mostly newbies that hit on people tho. go to starter cities and sometimes it happens to me too.

most of the high levels do it because it's funny and they're not being serious. then again...now newbies is also high level b:question

I don't see why you'd think they have issues. It's a machismo thing, bred into our species by generations of women who preferred men who acted strong and strutted their stuff. I think it's perfectly natural for men to feel uncomfortable about being emasculated. Same way a woman would feel devastated at having to get a mastectomy due to breast cancer.

The concept of equal rights and people deserving to be treated the same despite their differences is much, much newer, and is a purely intellectual development. If you're arguing which one is more natural, I would think being uncomfortable with having your sexuality threatened is rather normal, while equal rights is something which is taught and learned.

I think they're both legitimate, and neither indicates you have a problem. It's like bungee jumping. Intellectually you know the cord will safely stop your fall and you won't get hurt. But your brain will be screaming at you that YOU DO NOT WANT TO STEP OFF THAT BRIDGE. Do people who feel that way have "issues" because their intellect is not able to completely squelch their natural reaction?

Honestly I don't play any girl chars because I don't want to come across or represent myself as a female. I'm straight but I have no issues with my sexuality.

later when the cleric went afk someone told him that cleric is guy in rl
the bm went crazy: "i kiss a guy omg omg omg!!!!!" i told him that is only a game and in this game only 2 avatars in the screen kissed not in rl!

Surprised no one has brought this up yet but, would girls playing as girl toons be considered ****? Or if they played guy characters would that be considered **** either? lol. I think the whole argument that a guy playing a girl character means they're "****" is rather weak. I completely understand wanting to watch a curvaceous female character while gaming rather than a guy. I'm a girl in RL mind you (bi, though... but that's beside the point). I've tried making guy characters (because I think they modeled the guys to be just as attractive as the girls), it just feels weird to me since I relate more with women. xD I dunno if that makes any sense. Perhaps it might be the same for men who play male characters.

But no I don't think it makes anyone **** if they play a character the opposite gender. Or vice versa... it's absurd to assume otherwise. lol People who hit on others simply because their toon is attractive are ignorant... everyone should know it's rare the person you're hitting on in-game look anything like that in RL. XD Flirting in a game can't be taken seriously. And people who use PWI as a dating website essentially, are using it for entirely the wrong reason imo.

Though I have known a few guys who play girl toons and also pretend to be girls so they can use people for the items and gold they can leech. >_>; But that's another thing entirely.

Gender should never be an issue in a game period. personally I don't see PWI as an RPG. if I can borrow something for a moment, just a minor comparison:

in WoW there are RP servers, the gameplay is similar (PWI has the advantage at this in my honest opinion) but the servers are barren, it's near impossible with the casting cool-downs and not pausing for posting. so type 100wpm or die most of the time.

Dragon Age: Origins (NOT AN MMO, PERIOD) has a pause, and a very detailed story, but there's no interaction with others. hit space and you can wait for whatever you want, write a story for why you're near. etc. etc.

now PWI has no RP servers, faster casting and interaction can get very interesting at times.

    but back more on topic..

anyone who's seen my Wizard knows she looks good, I did that because that's what I wanted to look at all day while I played. The character is hard to play, and I don't get alot of hep, so I abandoned the character. I made a veno, which I made it my own way (don't have a pic anymore, or I would post it). I got hit on so much I got pissed off and changed the character to look as UGLY as I could stand to look at. I STILL got hit on. I had people picking me up and just kissing my character with no reason. (they were like level 10 or so (I know cause of level 3 gear) more on that in a min) Now I play a Psychic, no one bothers me, for much of anything. I still give Chi when it's asked, but no random "I wanna hold you cause you're so pretty."

    so here's the score:
    Wiz, pretty: not hit on
    veno, butt ugly: hit on
    Psy, pretty: not messed with

Everyone who knows me knows I'm a guy, I'm not shy about saying it. wierds some of my friends out that I play a female, but that's not my problem. My faction leader is a woman that plays a barb, we all know and accept this. I am however the first person around to not mind letting people pick my character up for chi. What I don't like is people randomly kissing on them.

What I also liked what the guy who made the post about being ****. (if you really are, this is not meant to be insulting in any way, shape or form, please don't take it the wrong way, innocent comment)

I have plenty of **** friends, they're not uppity or girlish, they don't whine etc. etc. (stereotypical things) In fact I consider most of them my BEST friends. I'm straight, and they know it. I don't hide who I am, they don't hide who they are. We each have our lines we don't cross, and we do it out of mutual respect for each other. (and with this I lost my train of thought..)

anyway.. Who you are outside of this game is one thing, who you are inside it is another. Play what you want, and act how you want, but respect the others around you.

anyway.. Who you are outside of this game is one thing, who you are inside it is another. Play what you want, and act how you want, but respect the others around you.

I really must agree with you.

    I have three characters also...

My venomancer was my first character, I modeled her to look like a character I created for my own story. She's attractive, curvy, etc. I got hit on A LOT even in later levels, until about the 70s or so. People seem to calm down about the whole hitting on thing lol. Some people still flirt with me occassionally, but 90% of the time they're not serious, only playing around. And I play back, I think it's harmless lol. And really, you start to shrug off the flirting with time. Sometimes I don't even respond.

As for my Cleric, she's hit on sometimes too. Really what it feels like it boils down to is really the attire, dare I say. >_>; Wear a bikini and guys'll hit on your toon all day. xD

And my Sin is cute, sort of school-girl assassin like. Well she's not really bothered much at all. I think guys, like with venos, have this fear that everyone behind a female TB is a guy or something. Cuz majority of the girl TBs I run into are guys in RL. I dunno, whatever lol. Doesn't matter to me, since I'm just here to enjoy the game and make friends with people.

I dunno what it is though, seems that venomancers will always be a guy magnet lol. It's the stance, the attitude and usually, because everyone sexes up their venos to look a certain way. That may just be my observation though. And like Psytrac said, even ugly venos get hit on rofl. Unless perhaps you make them truly grotesque.

And as for having friends who are **** etc, I completely agree with your standpoint there as well Psytrac. Having **** friends doesn't mean you're **** lol. And it's not a bad thing to BE **** either, in my opinion. And I'm not just saying that because of my own orientation either. I just think people need to learn to be more accepting of other people for who they are. But that might be too deep a conversation for PWI. XD

To put it simply, people need to stop jumping to conclusions just because they themselves are uncomfortable. Those people who get all defensive because they find out who they were hitting on wasn't really their character's gender and throw out "omg ur ****" are the ones with the insecurities, not the one playing the toon they hit on lol.

There is a race on JadeDynasty that both male and female have pets. the base is a foxlike animal...you can change the colour of the ear and tail, both in creating the character, and then even more with a makeover.

the really bummer in the game (aside that it essentially plays itself) is that there are very few pets. a few from the cash shop, and five catchable ingame. you DO have skills that will give you a magical pet to assist in battle, but for only a short time.

b:angry im mad that there is only girl for venomancer since that is the main class for pets and i for 1 love pets i think they should egleast make a guy class that usses pets

put it this way, i have a female sin because

1)the males look like cocky arrogant jerks
2)i wanted to make a character that looked like my fiance
3)its much nicer to look at a female for hours
4)its funny to when guys hit on you
5)you get to mess with people

If someone feels 'emasculated' by playing a female character in a game (when only that type of character can be played for that class) I think they have bigger issues in real life concerning their sexuality that they need to look at. I don't see how anyone's sexuality can be threatened by playing a character in a game unless they are already uncomfortable or unsure of their own sexuality.

I am a guy. I am straight. I run a Venomancer. My sexuality isn't threatened by this. Nor do I feel 'emasculated' by this. I am comfortable with who I am as a Man and don't need external visual cues in a game to re-enforce my own view of my sexuality.

My personal opinion of those who feel 'poofy' or '****' by playing a female character in a game is that they have deeper, more personal issues with their own sexuality they need to look into.

P.S. BTW, Bungie Jumping is a blast. It is only the first jump that really freaks you out. About the same as Parachuting. That first (and sometimes second) jump is the worst. After that it's all cake.
