Try installing the East-Asian Language Packs.

I still haven't figured it out myself. Updated drivers, installed what I could with East-Asian languages, and I still crash a lot.

Try increasing your virtual memory settings. Especially, if you have less than 2G on Win XP or 4G on Vista. My crashes virtually stopped after I increased my VM. Also I run PWI in Windowed mode. It switches faster.

How much system RAM do you have?

    What version of Windows?

What is the make and model of your system?

I'm going to need some more information from you about your computer. Go to Start, click on Run (or Search if using Vista), and type in dxdiag and press enter.

Click on the Display tab, and then post here everything in the Device and Drivers boxes:
    dxdiag.jpg
Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

This started happening to a number of people in my faction a few patches ago. (I suspect it was the 182 patch) None of us ever had any problems alt tabbing before that.

    Anyway for what its worth...

Click on the Display tab, and then post here everything in the Device and Drivers boxes:

I never use firefox while playing PWI. I have 3 different browsers. 1st is Internet explorer, 2nd is Firefox, 3rd is called The World Browser from ioage.com anyways I always use World browser whenever Im playing PWI at the same time because it uses the least amount of cpu usage. it doesnt burn up your computer's memory like IE and Firefox can which is what likely cause the game to crash.

I was having a similar issue a while back, had east asian language packs installed, graphics not dangerously overheating, system above and beyond the minimum/recommended specs - and game would crash or give glitched graphics (issue that started after previous couple patches). Seems to be fixed now in the new patch, though prior to this - I "fixed" it by using the "Window" button rather than Alt-Tab in order to escape to the desktop, then simply click back into the game - no more issue.

link back to my thread which I started a few days after the issue started, if interested:

Because they don't weant to admit that it's their client's fault, and they are desparately trying to find any reason so they can pretend the problem is on our side.

Still having the alt-tab crashing issue by the way.

i dunno why you all just dont play in window mode.

You can make it just a tad bit smaller then you screen so you can minimize or send to tray then open it back up when you want to look back.

This avoids the whole Alt+Tab issue :p

Just simply minimize instead of alt tabbing

The East Asian Language Pack actually fixes many things because the game was developed in Mandarin Chinese and not everyone's PC has support enabled so that their PC can understand the commands and files in Chinese and function correctly.

The 3 most magic things in Tech Support that solves most of the issues for our games are:

Reboot your PC and networking gear.

    Run Verify

Enable/Install support for the East Asian Language support, or Simplified Chinese (like for Linux and Mac OSX Windows virtualization/emulation software).

For those of you having issues now, and previosuly weren't, check to see that your GPU heatsink and fans are working, and all of the fans in your system are clean and working. If it is too hot in your case (or laptop), consider adding fans and cleaning out your system's vents with a can of air (with the little red straw on the nozzle) and see if that helps.

You can also send us a ticket to Tech Support here: http://support.perfectworld.com/ticketing
    after reading this: http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=2005612&postcount=33

We'll take a look at your system and see what is going on hopefully, ok? b:pleased

So I finally got fed up enough with this to post.

This is not a memory issue nor is it a language pack issue. This has happened since a few updates ago (within the last month). I had the packs installed and everything was fine until a recent update that screwed it up and suddenly many people who had their alt tabbing working fine (w/packs) are complaining about this. It's annoying as hell to alt tab, tab back in, and the game crash as it's attempting to tab back into the game, yet it does it to me 50% of the time, sometimes more, sometimes less. This was very clearly a problem caused by an update and I would be thankful for it to be fixed.
