Call to Arms: Gate Crashers
This Call to Arms sends players to the depths of the Chasm to fight against the aberrants that threaten Scar Keep. Repel the Order of Blue Fire and their plaguechanged brethren, earn rare enchantments, and play for a chance for your very own Intellect Devourer companion!

Start date: Morning of February 11
End date: Morning of February 15

The waves of enemies in this Call to Arms will approach a little more quickly this time around, while the boss will be a little tougher (along the lines of other CTA bosses). All classes added since last run now have access to transmutation weapons.


More Double Events
We've filled in some empty weekends with more Double events! Here's what's new to the roster:

February 4: 2x Experience
February 18: 2x Glory
March 3: 2x Seals

Going forward, events will begin as soon as the regular Thursday maintenance ends. This doesn't change the end time of the event, though the Last Chance vendor for larger events will still leave before the next major event starts.

Content and Environment
General
  • Addressed an exploit, to be posted when the build reaches the live shard.
  • Call to Arms queues no longer incorrectly state that they're "for all levels," though they still properly accept players level 6 or higher.
  • Collections: Addressed a few minor typos in the Icewind Pass location of the Icewind Dale collection.
  • Demogorgon: We've talked to the Goristro and it's agreed to stick around for the full 5 minutes to fight adventurers, no matter when they enter the arena. Please let us know if the Goristro violates our terms of demonic agreement (ToDA).
  • Double- and triple-kills in Gauntlgrym PvP now properly count toward the PvP Campaign.
  • Minor text improvements have been made to Challenge of the Gods content (for the next time the event runs).
  • Prophecy of Madness: The Balor now consistently counts toward Balor-killing achievements.
  • Shores of Tuern (Epic): Players may no longer target their powers through the magical barrier when their party members are in the final boss encounter.
  • Vellosk: The door to Xin'kar Ruins no longer doubles up on its "Enter Xin'kar Ruins" text.

Combat and Powers
Companions
  • The sounds made by the Bear Cub, Polar Bear Cub, Baby Owlbear, and Baby Bulette are now approximately 38% cuter.
NPCs
  • Drizzt's attacks now show proper names in the Combat Log.

Items and Economy
Underdark Rewards
  • The bonus "Demonic Overload" Heroic Encounter no longer drops a ring, but has a chance to drop a Peridot or Aquamarine instead.
  • +4 Epic rings dropped from Underdark content now have an additional Enchantment slot. They all now have one Offense and one Defense slot.
  • +5 Legendary rings dropped from Demogorgon and Epic Demogorgon now drop twice as frequently (but still very, very rarely).
Artifact Weapons
  • Awakened Heart quest items no longer have an "Equip" option in their context menu.
  • Stronghold Shield now properly has a Refine selection in its context menu.
  • Stronghold Sword Knot now properly has a Refine selection in its context menu.
General
  • Horn of Valhalla: This artifact now properly makes sound when used.
  • Siege Master's War Horn: This artifact is now consistently considered an Artifact of Stability.
  • When looting objects with randomized rewards, each player's result is now stored - so waiting for another player loot the object will no longer allow a player to try for a different item.

User Interface
Inventory
  • In the Riches tab, the "Spend" button for Trade Bars is disabled if the player is in another full-screen contact window. (This matches the functionality of the other "Spend" buttons.)
Journal
  • Quest rewards now properly show the number of items the player will receive (e.g. Lights of Simril).
Professions
  • The profession task detail window now scrolls completely, rather than just the rewards section.
Rewards
  • If a player has a reward window open with a rare item (marked with a golden background), and attempts to close the window, they now receive a prompt.
Social
  • Players can now only send Friend Requests if they have reached level 15 on at least one character, charged Zen into Neverwinter, or purchased a pack.
Zen Market
  • The banner for the New Life Lockbox now displays properly.

Gateway
  • Many companions, including the Intellect Devourer, now properly make a sound when selected in Sword Coast Adventures.
  • The banner for the New Life Lockbox now properly links to the New Life Lockbox dev blog.

Graphics, Effects, and Animation
  • Players with Razer Chroma peripherals can now access certain integrated lighting effects.

Stability and Performance
  • A memory leak in the cloth drawing system has been addressed.
  • Another rare deadlock in the VFX system has been addressed.
  • When players fail to transfer to a new map, they no longer become stuck on the map they attempted to leave.

Localization
  • French, German, Italian, and Russian localization is now up-to-date with this build.

Edits:
  • Feb. 1-ish: Items and Economy: (Clarity) "attempt to reroll the result" has been changed to "try for a different item."
  • Feb. 4: D'oh. Wrote down the wrong dates for Gate Crashers. Updated above.
  • Feb. 5: This build is moving to the Owlbear shard; renamed the post accordingly.

    The Suspense! Since full class balancing sounds to be some time off in the future, please at least keep doing some of the "band aid" fixes in the interim. To help with major issues, these are actually effective and have helped. They also help see how certain changes play out on live. Some major issues that need bandaids and should not wait longer:

    - Paladin bubble perma immortality
    - SW buffs (waiting forever, can we get a bandaid please)
    - GWF and especially GF burst damage is completely ridiculous, too high (and they can permastealth!)
    - Ambush stealth rings are actually permastealth not partial stealth, every class has rogue mechanic (awful).

    Liking these patch notes, very happy you fixed the node issues. My other suggestion was going to be, "Can you put the nodes in IWD PvP area?" >:)
    I may not be considered by most the BEST PVP Warlock on the server but, I am the most HATED amongst them.

    A Peridot(because you everyone knows that 99% of the time it will be)? Does Cryptic really despise the playerbase that much? The occasional ring was a nice way to gain RAD, but obviously nice isn't within the Cryptic lexicon.
    Definitely not an Arc User.

    No, they cannot. You cannot equip 2 underdark rings of the same type.

    Are loot rerolls not also an exploit? It seems odd to publish that bug before the fix goes live.
    Neverwinter Tools for evaluating boons, mounts, dyes, etc.

    This is mostly addressing people HAMSTER each other on masterwork material nodes.

    I hope they just forgot to write about it in the patch notes but wouldn't be surprised if they forgot that skirmishes are also supposed to drop +5 rings.

    Seriously? At this point in the game you should not be removing ANY ways to make AD, you should be adding more. Bad move.

    This didn't work for the chat, and it won't work for this problem either...

    AD sellers are allready leveling their characters to 15+ to bypass the chat restriction, therefore this will change NOTHING!

    How many times do we have to repeat, that we need an editable chat filter?
    So that we can update it on our own with keywords, so that the AD seller spam itself will be filtered right away.
    Take the profanity filter as base, and just upgrade it to what we actually need to fight this spam in game...

    And friends request should only work, when you're in the same group with your friend.

    Here's an idea for the next Dev stream, after this patch you take a fresh character on a new account into PE on the Dragon shard of course, and just stand there for about 15 minutes with the zone chat showing...
    And then just start counting how many AD seller accounts you have to place on ignore during that time.

    That should give you an idea of what we player have to go through day after day...

    Fix the owlbear's cub's bonus when we see 0 damage!

    for DC with chainz and daunting light!
    for GWF with Grand fissure!

    HR and CW also properly have no damage from owlbear.

    And this change makes no sense either. We need more sources of rAD, especially for solo players, and not less...

    Retroactive in that all previously farmed rings in the possession of a player will get the second slot. Not just newly dropped rings. I don't understand what you mean by "adding more."
    When they change an item it doesn't happen like that. If it did then we'd have a million items with the same name doing different things because of all the bug fixes they've had to do. So for your horror scenario they'd have to be adding a new set of +4 rings instead of changing the current ones.

    I don't know if you did some patching without our knowledge on the "Unscheduled maintenance" yesterday but whatever was done made the Dread Ring lag disappear for me. Please look into it since that may be the cause of the lag in other zones.

    Alum!!!!

    Alum drop rates were adjusted in the most recent patch before this, NW.55.20160106a.

    For those who are confused by the above patch note, don't worry, this is not in reference to anything to do with rolling on loot that your party obtains, nothing about that experience will change, and I apologize for the confusing terminology used here.

    These changes will be retroactive. In general, the only large change to items that is not retroactive is bind status. That is to say, if an item is changed to a more "open" bind status, this will not retroactively affect items that are already more closed. This is due to the way the bind system works, as that information is persisted on an item by item basis.

    To give a little background into this change, these Underdark rings were designed to provide interesting alternatives to personalized rings and masterwork rings for more casual adventurers, while providing super rare rings to hunt after as well. However, as common wisdom became to not use anything below a 2 slot ring, regardless of the rank of gems available for those slots, we felt that the number of adventurers using these rings wasn't as high as we'd like. With masterwork rings finally beginning to pop up on the auction house, we feel safe making a change that might slightly devalue personalized rings.

    That being said, keep in mind, the +4 rings will not have the same double offense or double defense arrangement that their corresponding +5 rings posses. Finding a +5 ring or purchasing a masterwork ring will still be a valuable enterprise.

    Thank you very much for confirming! My DC is going to be extra happy with the new slot on her +4 Rising Power ring. :smiley:
